I've never been interested NFL, but i strongly recommend to boot these games just to admire what N64 really can do. These games have over 10,000 polygons per a frame with very good character animations. This series peaked on 99 -version though, that is understandable, as new consoles were coming pretty soon. So many of the most talented developers started looking & studing into development for those instead, rather than N64.

I emailed the gentlemen at Bitmap Bureau, the team responsible for Xeno Crisis and all its retro ports. I had asked them if they had any other projects in the pipeline and this was the response I got - "Since Xeno Crisis we've released two more titles (Battle Axe and Final Vendetta), both of which will be coming to various retro platforms in 2024. We're also hoping to start work on the Xeno Crisis sequel next year and have a couple of other big projects to announce, and more that we're about to start on, so it's going to be a busy and exciting year for us!" I'd been pretty much out of the gaming loop for over 2 years so I was unaware of the 2 games they released, Battle Axe and Final Vendetta. I watched the trailer for both yesterday, and they both look pretty fun. The fact that they are making it a priority to make games that can be ported to retro consoles is fantastic news for a guy like me who has WAY more fun playing N64 games than new games on the PS5. It's a weird time we live in when our beloved consoles, rendered obsolete by time and technology, have found new life in indie game developers who also have a love for retro gaming. Heck, the Atari 2600, released in 1977, is probably the console with more new games released in the past decade than any other retro system.

@@n64glennplant Oh boy, let me tell you, I've got this uncanny ability to get super pumped about things that most people might find a little boring or dull. One of those things was NFL Quarterback Club 98, a football game that really got me into the sport. You see, I was a huge fan of my Nintendo 64, and I ended up buying every single installment of this football series up until the Dreamcast NFL 2K1 came along and blew my mind. But then, things took a turn when Madden took over, and 2K Games got shut down. From then on, it was all about PlayStation 2 and Madden. But let me tell you, NFL Quarterback Club 98 will always hold a special place in my heart. The 3D graphics were like nothing I had ever seen before, just like the baseball game All-Star Baseball 98. I was absolutely floored by the way the shadows looked during night games. And those player models, man, they had this glossy, shiny sheen that was just so cool. I got Madden 64 the first Xmas of the US launch and found it pretty competent. I was a little upset that it didn't have the NFL license, but at least it had the NFLPA license, which would have been a deal breaker. I tried NFL QBC 98 but felt it was super choppy and didn't regret sticking with Madden 64. I think I was also aware of the poor quality typical for Acclaim, including their 16 bit NFL QBC games, so I knew it wasn't wise to give them my money. In the 90s/00s, EA was a solid bet.

Always remember these games for the visuals. I remember seeing them in magazines(98) and thought the visuals looked amazing for a sports game. Man, Acclaim could put out some stunners back in the day. But I suppose this is just another dead sports franchise. Sad now just so few sports franchises exist. It's just FIFA(or whatever EA calls it nowadays) NBA 2K, Madden, MLB and I'm not even sure ISS is even still around(excluding racing and wrestling and more niche sports). The most hilarious exploit I’ve ever seen in a video game: load up qb club 99 practice mode with second controller plugged in and no defense. Have the ball carrier go towards the sidelines and fumble intentionally- you can now interact with the players on the sideline If you touch them from behind they will get stuck in an animation and walk onto the field. If you hit them from the sides or behind they will hard sell every tiny hit but if you hit them from the front they will absolutely wreck your entire life. Definitely the hardest hits in the game.
