Awesome game. Turnovers were the key. It was such a good game it was kind of sad that one team had to lose.

As an '80s kid, I rooted for the 49ers to beat Dallas. But honestly, in 1992 it was refreshing to see the Cowboys regain their lustre.

To think that Alvin Harper 'completed' Drew Pearson's run 11 years later. After the Catch, Dallas's first play was a Danny White pass 10 yards further up the field to Drew who was about to break away, and render the Catch a mere footnote............. HAIL MARY PART 2!!!!!! BUT........ Eric Wright got a hand on his jersey at the very last moment, and wrangled him down in Niners territory at about the 45. Next play White fumbled and that was it. I remain the only person on Earth who's first thought of that game is Drew, and not Clark. Harper, 'finished' Drew's run, (right in front of Joe Montana on the sideline) and all I was thinking after that play was over was; I can now die in peace......the Catch has been exorcised from my nightmares. God Bless You Alvin Harper. LOL

Joe Montanas last ever game in a 49er uniform, and watched it all from the sidelines. He never really recovered from the hit he took from Leonard Marshall in the '91 NFC Championship.

That's not exactly true. He recovered, but then had an elbow problem after that, and once he did get healthy, he just couldn't get his job back from Young.

Troy Aikmam said that before the game, Roger Staubach said, "I feel so nervous I need to get my ankles taped!" I always wondered, as the game progressed, did Roger give Troy any advice, or just let him play the game?

It wasnt vital to the play Steve Young says about the penalty ... the actual broadcast shows russell maryland getting dragged down by the waist and he's coming right up the middle ...it was very vital to the play thats why the flag was thrown

Exactly. If Maryland isn’t grt tackled by the legs, Young’s throw isn’t getting off. I would consider that vital. Lol

I was 12 at the time and the game crushed me at the time. I always thought the Niners should have put Montana in when it was clear Young wasn’t ready for the moment. Young’s turnovers in this game killed their chances. Young’s turnovers kept the Redskins in the game the week prior.

Watching this video, I get the impression the Cowboys were not confident. It wasn't like they didn't think they were going to lose. But it almost seems like they didn't really have the confidence that they were going to win as portrayed by the interviews in this clip. Only until later did I see that confidence, which is surprising.
@rog9601
@rog9601 2 жыл бұрын
I think they just wanted to go out and play well, they were too young to really understand the consequences. Both Daryl Johnstone and Troy Aikman indicated that in interviews several times, especially Troy. The game has my all-time favorite play.

It’s one of those situations where the were too young to really know any better lol. It was another game to them. A lot of that confidence stuff you see from teams is false bravado. Guys just trying to psych themselves up to play in a big game. But the cowboys we’re comfortable and loose. They didn’t get nervous until the superbowl lol

Great game im a Cowboys fan all my life. An really thought the 49rs were going to win. I did not even watch full game only pieces of game. Just to know that the score was . then when it was 30 to 20 at final minutes i new than Cowboys had win that game. But knowing 49rs record of the 80s n super bowl's. I had my doubt about the Cowboys, but i was wrong , it felt good beating the 49rs , an than going on to win 3 supper bowls in 4 years. !! Its a shame coach Jimmy Johnson n Jerry Jones did not get along in the end. Who know how many more supper bowls they could have won if they stayed together.??

Ricky Watters was a physical specimen and very talented. However he didn’t have the mental toughness that Emmitt had. Watters was a mess after he fumbled.

It was time for a change, as the sack/hit by Leonard Marshall on Montana in that Giants game was the best ever, a defining moment. I was just as excited about that as any Super Bowl win (well almost) by my team. All NFL fan's (except SF fans of course) needed that to happen. Cowboys fans can relate as the January 1995 NFC Championship was painful for us as that also ruined a chance for 3 in a row. Those games back then were some of the greatest days of NFL football.
