Pat Summerall was a fine Announcer. The template and benchmark for all time though was set by the incomparable Vin Scully eight years before. His unimaginable call from "Baghdad by the Bay" transcended even the great game itself. The Cowboys versus 49ers clash in 1981 was probably the most exciting in NFL history. Made even better by the peerless team of Scully and Hank Stram. Unlike the overly verbose John Madden, Stram never over broadcast as a commentator. Madden too often sounded like he was speaking to a five year old in a sandbox. As if every listener was clueless and unknowing. Give me Scully and Stram over any team to ever broadcast over the airwaves.
