Looking back on it now, Broncos vs Bengals, Cardinals vs Rams, and Commanders vs Falcons could all have playoff implications

A lot of this had to do with working around Taylor Swift's Eras tour and the fact that originally the NFL was not having Christmas day games this year.

Welcome to Dumb (Scheduling) Decisions
@bradyloose32137 ай бұрын
That's incorrect on the Week 15 point. Week 15 will be the Army/Navy game, so the first round of the CFP won't start until Week 16, when there will be 2 Saturday games competing against the CFP.
@WaltGekko7 ай бұрын
And I would not be surprised if the CFB Playoff Committee and elected officials sue to block the NFL from playing any games that Saturday of the CFP and either switch with the CFP (NFL plays Thursday, MNF on Friday and full Sunday schedule on Saturday with the first round CFP games Sunday and Monday unopposed by the NFL) OR the NFL re-works weeks 15-17 with the Christmas Day games ending Week 16 and teams playing Christmas Day playing their week 17 games Monday 12/30 (either with NFL Network having a DH at 1:00 and 4:30 and the other two games between ESPN and ABC OR ESPN and ABC getting between them a double-doubleheader with games on ESPN at 6:10 and 9:35 and ABC at 7:10 and 10:35 PM ET).
@bradyloose32137 ай бұрын
@WaltGekko On what grounds would the CFP be able to sue the NFL? The Sports Broadcasting Act only covers through the second week of December. The only way for this to happen would be for Congress to modify the legislation to extend this restriction to the third weekend in December, which may/may not happen. I'm not saying it would be impossible but not something that would easily get done.

@@bradyloose3213 In this case, the fact that before this year, there never were playoff games taking place in December as this is the first year of the expanded playoff. The reason the bank extends to the week of the Army-Navy Game I believe dates back to 2001 when a week had to be added to the season at the end to make up games cancelled the week of 9/11. Before that, I believe it only went through the first Saturday in December with the additional week added in case conference title games had to be pushed back one week due to games having to be made up at the end of the season due to earlier postponements. One compromise I could see is the NFL agree not to play Saturday games in Week 16 and in Week 15 get a Friday night 8:15 PM ET and say 6:30 and 10:00 PM ET Saturday games (after Army-Navy) in exchange for agreeing to move around the schedule. As noted in that, Christmas Day would end Week 16 instead of start Week 17 and the teams playing Christmas Day would play their Week 17 games Monday 12/30, with those games possibly a double-doubleheader between ESPN and ABC
@WaltGekko6 ай бұрын
I would not be surprised if the Christmas Day games wind up being the end of Week 16 instead of the beginning of Week 17 and the games involving the teams playing Christmas Day who are between them are also playing the scheduled Saturday games Dec. 21 are moved to Monday, Dec. 30 at the same times they are scheduled for 12/21 as I can see lawsuits by the College Football Playoff Committee and elected officials in some states to block the NFL from playing on the Saturday of the College Football Playoff, forcing the move of those games to Monday 12/30.

@ralphmtsu7 ай бұрын
This is pretty easy. Giants/Colts goes to 1pm on Sunday. Patriots/Chargers goes to 4:05 Sunday. Commanders/Falcons early game Saturday. Broncos/Bengals afternoon game Saturday. Rams/Cards late game on Saturday. Giants/Colts is a meaningless inter conference game that is boring from the get go and will have very limited playoff implications. Patriots/Chargers is a dud since the Patriots most likely will be battling for the #1 pick. The game I'm sure is a mortal lock for Saturday is Broncos/Bengals in the late afternoon slot. It makes perfect sense. The Broncos are in the Mountain Time Zone playing in the Jungle and Bengals could be fighting for #1 seed in AFC. Putting them at 4:30 on Saturday makes the most sense. Commanders/Falcons could be a fun game with Cousins and Daniels. Rams/Cards will have playoff implications for the Rams. The one game I'm almost 100% sure goes to Sunday is Giants/Colts. The Giants are way over-exposed already. That don't deserve another stand alone game.

Well look the Cardinals-Rams game will have a good time in LA and Marvin Harrison Jr. for Arizona, Chargers-Patriots is good because it's Drake Maye vs Jim Harbaugh okay like Jim Harbaugh is HUGE on networks since winning the title at Michigan, has personally and great on TV, everybody loves seeing Jim and what he will do for the Chargers because of hype on the chargers this year. Falcons-Commanders has Cousins vs Daniels (the #2 pick in the draft) playing each other so for the NFL some of these games have good QB matchups you can see here. The Colts were 1 win from the playoffs and hosting the Browns if they won the game vs HOU in Week 18 so it's not like the Colts were a 4 win team people.

I do think it's humorous how he keeps low-key downing on the Colts. Yeah, sure, there's a pretty good chance Richardson knocks himself out of play sooner rather than later, Joe Flacco 2024 isn't able to do his best Joe Flacco 2023 impression, and the Colts are a non-factor before week 11. But if AR isn't challenging RGIII for his job by the midway point, they're probably going to be as much of a contender as any of the second-tier teams in the AFC. Moreso than the Jags, in all likelihood. And this is coming from a Texans fan. And even if tragedy does strike the Colts, remember, these guys were a single dropped pass away from a playoff berth last season with a random 70's pr0n extra under center for 90% of the season.

Yeah, I’m a jags fan and I think the Colts downplay is childish.
