The reason jc latham looks left during the last play is bc hes doing what we call a scoop hinge on the back side of power, you have to protect b gap long enough for the center to block back, and then after that "hinge" back out to c gap for anything coming off the edge. Hope that makes sense.

@@maximotibursyo3047 agreed. Time for a difficult conversation to have for us 9er fans. Based on what you said, do you think they would be wise to move Deebo, in order to get assets to trade up for offensive lineman this year? I have my reasoning for saying this, but I want other fans thoughts.

Nah, Deebo is a game-breaker. Defenses scheme for him, so he is too valuable in my opinion. Also, Guyton is pretty moldable and is availabe at 32. They need depth and talent. I’m also not completely opposed to trading back getting that second round draft pick back. Signing a pet tackle and then taking one of the guys that ideally could use a few months of work before starting. My biggest problem with Joe Douglas is that he hasn’t been taking enough guys lee that are projects or maybe it’s just not great coaching when it comes to positions.

I’m gonna assume that the Jets would gain a 2nd rounder that they don’t have currently, and the answer would be Fuaga and a WR like Tez because the Jets need more pro ready talent on the O-Line that they don’t have right now besides AVT and Tippman. They also should strongly consider getting a T in FA so they’re not strong armed into getting T even if that means getting the 4th or 5th best one
@jonjonr478810 ай бұрын
As a Jets fan - I've got Fuaga as clear and obvious OT1, I expect him to be an All-Pro and would gladly take him in the Top 5. That said, imo the gap between Odunze (my WR2b, basically tied w/ Nabers) and Tez Walker (I've got him as WR16) is absolutely massive, much bigger than the gap between Fuaga (OT1) and Morgan (OT6). Given those choices I would take Odunze and Morgan. In the end, I bet Morgan sneaks into the back end of the 1st, and Jets don't have a 2nd rounder anyways. Without a trade-back to get a 2nd, my realistic best-case OT/WR combo is Fuaga (Rd. 1) and Jalen McMillan (Rd. 3).

Fuaga OT1 / Latham OT2 / Alt OT3 / Olu OT4 / Mims OT5 / Morgan OT6 / Paul OT7. All seven are justifiable 1st round picks. Btw, massive credit to Trevor for actually sitting down to watch the entirety of Latham's Michigan tape. The notion that he had a bad game was mostly bogus twitter narrative. I'd encourage anybody turned off by the CFP semifinal performance to follow Trevor's example and actually watch the game. Love the show, but one critique -- defensive ends are not more powerful than defensive tackles, and you don't move a tackle to guard because he lacks the ability to anchor or plays with high pad level. That's a recipe for disaster on the interior where guys are getting their hands into your chest faster, and typically at a lower strike point, because they are firing directly off the ball into your center of mass. That can happen at tackle, but it happens less frequently, and you typically have a significant mass advantage over the edge rushers you're lined up against. Not really clear why this whole "lack power and strength, move to guard" idea seems to be a throughline here. That said, minor quibble with what was otherwise a great show.

@ccrr802910 ай бұрын
Latham is a guard, I agree
@jonjonr478810 ай бұрын
Latham's by far the best neutralizer of bull rushers in this OT class. Strength and anchor is his calling card. I was a big time skeptic, his technique and decision-making in the first half of the season had me very dubious. But he made an unbelievable leap in the second half of the year - basically fixed all of his problems except the occasional lapse in high-pressure decision making (which we saw rear its ugly head on a couple of snaps against Michigan). Still, he played far better than Olu did against Michigan, even w/ a tougher assignment (rest of Bama's line was straight dogwater, and Milroe was holding the ball forever). Personally, health is my only concern. He's downright massive and has endured a few minor issues throughout the season.
@tvtda110 ай бұрын
i'd let him fail at tackle 1st guys.
@zackhurwitz944110 ай бұрын
I think it's the movement skills that really the highest concern me. Some major inconsistency with his anchor is a problem, but with his size, and grip strength I think his floor at the position is going to be good, at least in terms of pass protection. He could benefit from the Tyler Smith treatment. So if a team like the eagles want to slide Jergens into the center position, after Kelce leaves. Latham could play RG, if Lane Johnson retires later, he or Tyler Steen could solidify the right side, in some order.
@smyers905210 ай бұрын
Hate to break it, lol, but guards need to have a stronger base because they constantly deal with bull rushes from bigger, stronger players than tackles. This is a misnomer.
