Neither of them have a high end discography, far too many blemishes and lack of an actual theme that is advanced through songwriting and literary tactics. Some of their more insufferable music has surfaced in the past 5 years. They both have several 6/10 or lower albums with fewer than 4 8/10+ albums. That’s enough to warrant Eminem being only Top 10-15 and Drake being only 20-30. Their impact and talent keep them in the conversation, their execution and artistic vision is just poor.

I honestly feel J. Cole is getting disrespected due to him not being as popular because in terms of the skill of rapping Drake does not compare and even in the catalog Drakes's albums don't have meaning. For the 4YEO album, I agree it's not a classic for most because most hip-hop heads I see say it's a well-constructed album but too boring, but Drake has so many albums people consider weak such as views which most hip-hop fans don't respect on a rap level.
@zootin668811 ай бұрын
i used to think j cole was boring in 2017 after 4YEO, but its pretty clear to me now that he's one of the goats. him and kendrick are the only 2 lyricists to stay as relevant and on top sales-wise as they were a decade ago. his features also never miss lol, i wish kendrick would do what he did, and at least do features while im waiting 4-5 years for his next project.

This is a question I would love to have answered: What makes 4YEO a classic? Just because it's a concept album by a big artist doesn't automatically put it in that category. 2014 at least made Cole a household name and has several iconic songs. 4yeo just doesn't.

The classic argument is trash. The only thing that makes an album a classic is popularity. 4YEO is far superior to most albums that are considered "classics"
@armin849411 ай бұрын
Agreed. Born Sinner is arguably more of a classic album than 4YEO.
I think the argument of Kendrick v Em is one of the most difficult arguments in the culture. I can EASILY see why Kendrick would be above Em, however I personally disagree (will admit I am more biased towards Em tho, don’t particularly like TPAB or MMATBS, the others are solid but I don’t enjoy as Em’s best stuff). Kendrick fucking stomps Em on the catalog, SSLP, MMLP, TES and Relapse are all excellent albums and I do think Em’s three album run has had more influence and dominance whilst also being close to Kendrick’s level of quality but overall the three album run goes to Em, but overall Kendrick has him nabbed on the catalog. What keeps Em and Kendrick separate by one spot on my top ten list is the hold Em has on Kendrick with his skills. Lyrically Em is better. Em has a better flow and delivery. Obviously they’ve both had their respective primes with their skills but prime against prime it’s easily Em and if there was some way to get a numerical average of an MC’s skills I’d still bet on Eminem winning that. And finally, Eminem has definitely had a bigger impact. He has introduced much more people to the genre, his impact on the mainstream and is unrivalled, in hip hop as a whole he’s also incredibly influential, he’s influenced so many of the new generation including Kendrick himself. So in summary I think that overall Eminem is just slightly better than Kendrick, I get that Kendrick hasn’t had the time to influence as much but my point still stands. The three broad qualities I look for when comparing MC’s is catalog, skills and influence (in that order of importance) I do break it down more than that but I cba to write it all out. And Em is over K Dot for me on 2/3 of those but like I say. I very much understand the argument for Kendrick being superior. Much love from the UK.

I'd argue you on the skills.em is better lyrically,apart from that Kenny is better storyteller,more versatile,better artist,more creative and over all better rapper

@@lumus7 see how you have to bring things that's not rap in to justify Drake being better. Cole hasnt has mid production born sinner and that was an album made for radio. Drakes bars are just not there he gets outclassed on almost every feature but you could never say that about Cole. Drake knows he's not the best rapper that's why he doesn't say it and that's why he sings so much.

I think J. Cole is better than Drake. Tho Drake has more catchy, memorable, vibe and head banging songs, J. Cole's lyricism, rhyming ability, discography, features, producing, overall production, vocals and pureness are better than Drake's

My picks for favorite hip-hop artist: Drake > J. Cole (my #1 vs. my #3 favorite hip-hop artist) Kendrick Lamar > Eminem (Eminem is still in my top 10-15 but Kendrick is my #2) Future = Travis Scott (Travis' album discography is better by far, but Future's features are better by far in my opinion)

cole raps relats to reality while drake is more of repetitive and doesn't give any energy to the listeners, also cole is more of a artist of the fans who will make a concept record that's loved by fans such as 4yeo not a commercial record, i never understood why ppl dont consider born sinner as a classic and album, and that interlude from the sideline story, however i gotta remind u that drake style changes every 3 years, thats how he made his impact not on the rap industry tho but on music in general drake brought nothing new to the table except numbers that no one can beat as a "rapper" without getting out of that circle poping in other scenes with the help of many non hiphop factors, while cole's 1st album still feeels the same and give the same energy he is giving now while he is on the peak of his career for more than a decade and yet managed to do it without switching his roots every two years thats why so many mcs give cole credit over drake. i hope i made a point

The thing about bringing Eminem's worst songs is you have to think he's rapping from 3 different perspectives. Slim Shady is a carefree persona who doesn't give a f*uck, Eminem makes you think, and Marshall Mathers makes you cry. To be able to rap from 3 different perspectives is ultra impressive.
@zootin668811 ай бұрын
he hasn't really rapped as slim shady since the early 2000s, other than maybe evil twin, which is a great song tho. i've been really hoping eminem would just drop one more amazing album, but imo, his flows and song ideas just aren't there anymore. all he focuses on is lyricism, which is fine but a decent but of his punchline come out corny. his flow just doesn't sound as effortless as it used to either. and his production isn't nearly as good as it could be, with his vocal mixing really sounding off to me lately. i'll always love eminem tho, and will always eagerly await for new music by him.
@worldtree202711 ай бұрын
It is impressive, just not as impressive as the displays of masterclass songwriting ability w/ peak tonal command & thematic focus that Kendrick offers. I’ve never looked at Eminem as a one of a kind writer or performer, but he’s one of the best technical rhymers you’ll ever come across.
