The Sabres have 5 players exactly like Savoie. This makes perfect sense. Yeah, the Oilers probably got a bit sweeter of a deal, but Buffalo got exactly what they're looking for and didn't give up "the future" to do it. Benson, Rosen, Quinn are all over Savoie on the depth chart

The amount of people assuming Savoie is going to play any amount of Center in the NHL is pretty funny. The kid won like 37% of his faceoffs against children. With his height and lack of bulking up, Buffalo just viewed him as the most tradeable prospect that can still get the team an asset that helps the NHL roster. McLeod at 3c is a vast improvement over Krebs, and he brings the speed in the bottom 6 that they’re clearly coveting. The only actual centers in the pipeline are Ostlund, Wahlberg, and now Helenius. All good faceoff takers so far as well. In terms of wingers, they already have Benson, Rosen, and a plethora of others that included Savoie. It’s certainly an overpay at face value to not get a better asset that Tullio along with McLeod but they improved the roster without giving up a piece that is vital to the future of the team. Only thing left to do is get a top 6 winger to maybe push down Zucker to a more comfy spot on the 3rd line

Can’t wait for your next franchise mode. You should play with injuries on to make it more realistic! Turn down the sliders to 25/100 injury occurrence. Injuries will help your 80 overall dudes who become AHL all stars get a chance and who knows, maybe they turn into something

This trade defines the Sabres organization. Trading a 2004 forward with 70pt upside for a player who won’t even score 40pts since he’ll be buried on a line in Buffalo

The value definitely seems lopsided but I do think Ryan McLeod is a very underrated 3C. He’s young and can fly, kills penalties, good underlying metrics. He can be locked in as a long term reliable 3C for buffalo for years to come On the flip side, if Savoie reaches his potential- he would look very dangerous next to Draisaitl or McDavid. I personally see him more as a top 6 winger with tons of skill who can also be on a first unit powerplay.

Buffalo definitely just valued getting the for sure two way player now rather than having to wait a year or so for Savoie. Buffalo is trying hard to make playoffs. I don’t think it’s a fleece just yet, this may be a trade we check back on in a few years…

Definitely but from the Oilers perspective they can definitely take a chance on a guy like Savoie. Why, because McLeod was making to much to be a 3 or 4 line centre. Don’t get me wrong McLeod is good but I would rather take a great or a elite prospect for him.

Sabres season ticket holder here. On paper it looks like the Oilers fleeced the Sabres. Not so fast. Savoie has a history of being injury prone and his frame isn't going hold to much more muscle. Also we have a plethora of players that are at least and maybe even better than Savoie in the long run. We drafted Konsta Helenius in the first round and he is already as good as Savoie now. We have forwards like Kulich, Rosen, Ostlund and Wahlberg to name a few. So I'm not surprised the Sabres GM Kevyn Adams made this move.

Savoie is top line or bust. He’s smaller and his play style is skating around and splitting defenseman. I don’t see him doing that in the nhl. I think this is really a good trade for both teams.

Sabres are loaded with prospects to the extent they don’t have room for them all.. video games as analysis are childish tbh. Kulich and Rosen have moved past Savoie on the prospect depth chart. Buffalo desperately needed a 3rd line C and got one of the fastest players in the game. Savoie has been injured and has put up stats against teenagers.. so an NHL roster player at this point is more of a need than a guy who is unproven and possibly still a yr or 2 away from having any impact in the NHL.

If Savoie was so insane he would’ve been in the NHL far before Benson who they just took last year. There’s only so many roster spots, Savoie wasn’t taking one and probably wasnt anytime soon.
