I love good, clean hip checks, but I hate how often they call clipping. Most of the time it's not the checkers fault, it's the skaters fault for trying to maneuver around the check.

It's the coolest sport ever invented. Pun intended. I was a super dorky nerd in middle and high school. Would of never thought I'd play a sport. But I got so much into it I actually started to play ice hockey in late high school lol.

Some were a little low to me and trust me dont mess with knee injuries, but for the most part thank you for showing one of the most beautiful aspects in the game. Its one thing to take out a guy's legs, but its another to perfectly time a check so you get hip on hip. My favorite move in all of hockey.

I just ironic how I'm watching a compilation of this and every other commentator says "we don't see many of these anymore" By the way, you've gotten me to start watching ice hockey and I LOVE IT!!!!

I have to admit, I don't understand the rules around hip checks. One hip check gets called a great hit, then the same hit gets called dirty by another announcer. Hip checks seem to bring a lot of fights too. I never played organized hockey, what's the deal?
@johnkedrowski82096 жыл бұрын
bochafish it's all about where you make contact with the player you're hitting. "acceptable" is about mid-thigh and higher. Any lower and you risk ruining a dudes knees, so it's frowned upon and can be assessed as a penalty - "clipping"
@bochafish6 жыл бұрын
Excellent explanation, thank you.

@Jens956 жыл бұрын
1961casey Some are called clipping because the hits were too low. It's a dangerous hit that can end someone's career. Marchand on Salo is a great example.
