I’d say one of the worst redesigns ever was When the Mighty Ducks iconic logo was switch to the boring Font logo in 2006-07 .

New ownership killing the mighty and just renaming the team the ducks was bad enough but the word logo was pretty stalrt...also took so long to upgrade to a better logo in the web foot

It really isn’t a bad logo. BUT the logo was too sleek and modern for our city. We take pride on being rugged and hard workers. Baldwin didn’t understand this city and tried to remake the team’s brand into something that would have fit better into his LA roots.

Honestly, I think the New Jersey Devils should have kept the Garden State Green in their look. It was unique. Far too many teams have red, white and black.

I’d say that the Alberta trend to boring, where Edmonton and Calgary dropped colorful, vibrant jerseys that both had success in for much more tame, tuned down jerseys should get an honorable mention. Thankfully both have since been corrected.

I personally did like those jerseys but I would of introduced them a lot differently and brought them In as Third jerseys instead of full out switch over and the same could of been said about most of the rebrands and it would of been a more ideal marketing plan to see if the audience liked the change first

The Oilers current alternate jerseys with the "nearly black blue" and "nearly illegible orange" are by far the worst jerseys in the NHL right now. I hate that they tried shoving them down our throats in the playoffs last year because they are hot garbage.

I agree about those current dark blue/orange numbers & letters...little contrast, very difficult to see the names & numbers, especially on smaller source tablets. The Oilers should've stuck with the orange one's from Connor's rookie season; they had a darker, burnt orange, rather than the current, brighter, Adidas offering. I also prefer the warmer blue & numbered shoulders, with the wider, WHA era, middle stripe.

@@loilt5091 The all black Oilers uniforms are simply awful but many years ago they wore uniforms that were much worse looking. They were the "Spawn" jerseys, designed by comic book creator Todd McFarlane that are best forgotten. Their hated rivals, the Flames, around the same time also wore black with a silly looking horse at the front shooting fire out of his mouth. That too was awful. The worst of all time had to be Vancouver with the black and yellow V that went across the front. That thankfully only lasted only a couple of years but the Canucks have had other bad designs ever since and can never seem to get it right except when they wear their early-70s stick design. Those are the only ones I like.

I actually like the robo-Penguin jerseys. I'm a Caps fan so I have a lot of bad memories associated with the robo-Pen but in terms of colors and look -- I thought they were very sharp. Especially the shoulders on the home jerseys.

When I 1st got into hockey the robo-penguin was the 1st penguins logo I saw. Thought it was sleek despite the team name, I mean "penguins", c'mon. When they changed back I laughed my head off for months. It's a freaking cartoon now! Not intimidating in the slightest!

I would've also included the Ducks dropping the "Mighty Ducks" name and adopting the duck foot logo. I much prefer the traditional logo that was used in the movies.

The problem was, that Disney owned the “Mighty Ducks” name and logo, and, when their contract expired with the NHL, it wasn’t able to be used anymore.

One thing I've noticed is that people tend to like what ever logo a team had when they were watching as kids. You'll notice that the only people that like the red and black buffalo or the Islanders fisherman are people who were kids during that era, like our buddy Neil from the Post 2 Post channel.

As an Islanders fan I can tell you those Fisherman jerseys were horrendous to look at and the years they wore them were the darkest in team history. I think the unis they wear now are the best and all other 3rd jerseys, stadium series, etc. we’re pure crap. I think the Sabres goat head is the greatest logo in sports history. The majority of Sabres fans, while they might not have liked it at the time, have grown to appreciate it. A lot of great memories in the black and red. We would love to see it come back as a 3rd jersey.

I'm a casual jersey collector; (though not enough for being caught in the reverse retro thing); most of the jerseys I bought in the last few years were Stadium jerseys: Love the Red Wings, Wild, Sharks jerseys for example. And I did like the Islanders' fisherman to be honest. But I guess the big takeaway from this type of discussion is the boring 'to each their own': I see people here liking what you described as hated by many. In my case, as a Sharks fans, I hate the return of the old logo and grey colour on jerseys - but many seem happy with that ?! And my favourite Sharks jersey is the Stadium Series - despite of the weird logo rendering.

There are clever elements like somewhat of a B in the bottom left side of the goat head, and a sword in the blue of the slug, with the eye area as the handle. I think they should’ve kept either one cuz that’s when the team was most successful.

I'll add one: When the NHL came back from a lockout they had the "Are You Ready" ad that featured ladies in lingerie lusting over various players and players opening treasure chests that contained a glowing Cup. That was too easy to make fun of, and that ad campaign didn't last long. As far as jersey's go I haven't given up on script jerseys. I think the old black Penguins jersey with Pittsburgh scripted diagonally is beautiful, and isn't the whole point of third jerseys to be a bit out there?

The Penguins' script jersey was NOT their third, it was the away jersey to match the white Robe-penguin jersey. The sublimated stripe RoboPen was the third jersey, then they phased out the script jersey and used the sublimated RoboPen as the road jersey.

As a designer and hockey lover I absolutely adore this channel but as a life long stars fan there are alot of us that aren't crazy about that new logo, design and overall look. For me personally I think they need to lose the silver and bring the gold back somehow? It's difficult cause you don't have alot to work with, you got: Dallas,TX, they used to be the North stars...uhhh...green and gold? Or yellow? Which the Minnesota wild kind of rock now so you can't use that, so when it comes to designing for Dallas your options are kind of limited but I'd like to see another revival and more Dallas Stars ideas/concepts bringing back the gold possibly.

*a lot *lose The Stars really should have come up with a completely new logo and colour scheme when they moved to Dallas from Minesota in the first place, as that whole drawn-out process left a bad taste in the mouths of many NHL fans, and by keeping colours that were significant to Minneapolis-St Paul, while moving to Dallas, which had no connection to those colours as a city, they made it look like a carpetbagger move. That said, it was still better than the Avalanche's colours, logo and jersey design.

1. Here on the left-coast of Canada, the Sabres black/red jersey was extremely popular... it seemed like every 3rd or 4th beer-league team was wearing it. 2. The Robo-Penguin is a cautionary tale about messing with the mojo of success, punctuated by the dual Stanley Cup victory bookends to that era. 3. It REALLY seems like the NHL has a secret mandate to have at least one annoying jersey in circulation each season. Tell me I'm wrong. ;P

Nah, the Jet Blue Panthers jerseys are still spoken off amongst us Panthers fans and there are a bunch who actually like them. I myself own a game worn one of them and it's pretty nice. I wouldn't say it's the right fit for the Panthers but the jersey and logos themselfs are fine. Too close to the Penguins and Blue Jackets alternates though..

Great video! I think this is just a matter of creativity versus traditionalistic. I personally would like to see new and creative designs rather than being very conservative by recycling old designs over and over again. I think this shows lack of creativity and it becomes really boring if the same jersey designs are overly used.

Real question: do Edmonton fans really like their current third? The navy one with orange and no white? I feel like the lack of contrast really kills the jersey, it just doesn't look good! I also hated the Stadium Series jerseys when Pittsburgh and Philly faced each other with jerseys devoid of white. The Flyers' one for some reason had a shade of orange that was really dark and it didn't look good on TV at all. Unrelated, but I also love the Robo-Penguin, especially that late-era black jersey they had with it. Very 90's, but in a good way.

I like the dark blue oilers jersey. Most people who I have asked say they do aswell. A lack of contrast between dark blue and bright orange? They are literally opposites on the colour wheel and opposing vibrancy. If you don’t like it that’s fine and I’d also definitely be open to going back to the royal blue

@@jrbro8217 my problem is that the orange feels too dark against the very dark blue: I feel the logo really doesn't pop off well. A real contrast would have been having white trim against the midnight blue. Edmonton has shown several times that blue and orange can be a killer combination on a jersey - that brighter orange third they had when McDavid joined, before they went to orange full time is one of my all-time favourites - but this one doesn't do it for me.

Oilers fan here. The current “street inspired” third jersey (whatever that means) is among my least favourite, along with their RBK pyjama jerseys. It’s grown on me the more I see it in action, but it exacerbates that the new dark blue looks *black* on many broadcasts. It’s also quite close to breaking legibility/accessibility best practices due to the lack of while outlines (it does pass, but barely). I rarely applaud jersey designs that change a team’s palette, and this one commits further to their recent change. Let fans at least wear correct team colours if they have an older jersey, y’know? So many kids must feel like poor chumps when their colours don’t match their team anymore. Watching 80’s games you’ll notice that not a single fan in the crowd is wearing a jersey though, so this is a more recent consideration I suppose - than for teams like Vancouver who have changed palettes habitually.

Hey Chris, here's my take on these classic clangers: - STORM FLAG: Who would have thought that the whole point was missed with that design? I did not know that there was a negative space in the current alternate logo that perfectly replicated the outline of North Carolina - ROBO-LOGO: I actually like the Robo-Penguin, to be honest. The Swindon Chill from the old English Premier Hockey League used this as the basis of their logo - FLY AWAY: This Panthers jersey was based on a commercial partnership with a budget airline? I wasn't aware of that. The chosen logo for that jersey looks quite bland, but not as bland as their current logo - ANATOMY LESSON: Oh boy, the Mooterus. I really feel for Stars fans, especially with their Reebok Edge jerseys that looked more like basketball uni's with added sleeves - CUT, PRINT: Trust the Sublimate era to coincide with the infamous Third Jersey Program. There were some good ones - and then there were the likes of the Bruins Pooh Bear tribute and the Burger King jersey - SLIMY: The Goat Head is still popular among Sabres fans, and it is also used by the Basingstoke Bison (last time I checked). The Buffaslug (I actually refer to it as "The Bearded Worm") was a total own goal - COMING UP SHORT: Why would anyone want to shorten the nickname of their chosen hockey club, when the nickname is already a ready reckoner for easy identification? I can only guess this was to cut down on the number of syllables, but why does "monosyllabic" have five syllables? - THE TRIFECTA: A real hat-trick of howlers. The Fisherman logo was a total anachronism (I refer to it as the Captain Birds Eye look), and it looks like the jerseys suffered from a serious bout of sea-sickness. No wonder Mike Milbury wasn't too pleased. I'm not keen on either of the black jerseys - the first one looked as if a basketball jersey was mistakenly placed on top of a hockey jersey, and the second one when they were playing in Brooklyn just purely because they were playing in the same place as the Brooklyn Nets (another colossal sporting mistake, I might add) - MAKE IT POP: Or, how to fleece more dollars off your fanbase just by playing a hockey game outside - NO SAVING THIS: Good grief. Good God almighty. And to make it worse, the Guardians Project had Stan Lee's dabs all over it. Someone please wipe this from my memory. That's me for now. Thanks for reading.

I loved those Fisherman jerseys. I also loved Florida's thirds except for the logo. If they had the full body attacking panther on the front, those jerseys would have been a bona-fide classic.

Im not an Islanders fan but when i grew up, that was the jersey they wore. And i like it, people keep on bashing on it for no good reason. The jerseys are great!
