I'm not short, but I'm not a thick guy like some of these others, So I had to learn how to take a hit without getting knocked on my wallet. So, I learned how to always be in balance and have my skates under me when I felt a hit coming. Turn my shoulder toward the checker. Most guys at my level, advanced amateur adult didn't know how to check. I learned playing high school hockey which was full checking. Usually the guy coming at me would just bounce off and have to pick himself up
