Imagine if Reaves was doing anything other than coasting for that hit at 0:22

True. But ya know what? As much as a lot of fans see him as a goon, thug, mercenary or the like, he seems to have learned. In this day and age if he was doing any more than coasting and caught a guy high, he'd get an angry phonecall from the league and probably 5 games. Reaves definitely has the strength to do Scott Stevens things to people if he wants to though.

For that first hit there is specifically wording in the rules saying if the guy turns/goes into vulnerable position at the last second it’s not a penalty, which he definitely did. Terrible call

To end the debate, the reason why guys always try to fight after a big hit isn't necessarily to stick up for their teammate. Sometimes, it's just smarter to fight and stop the play because your teammate just completely got taken out of the play and it's a huge advantage for the other team. Both players go to the box for fighting regardless of who initiated it, so there's no downside.

@@HowWeAchieveOurselves Ain't nothing tough about throwing a fit when your teammate gets hit legally. It's you who's coming off as soft lmao. ''A reminder to the other team not to do it'', yeah that's gonna work... ''Oh no! I had to fight the last time I hit a player. Guess I'll just let him skate by me for a scoring chance next time I see him. Wouldn't want to get jumped again!''. That's the worst part about it; IT DOES NOTHING. Nobody is gonna stop playing physical defense for fear of getting jumped. Plus, the guy who starts the fight gets an instigator penalty. Noticed how that foolishness stops in the playoffs? All of a sudden, the players grow up because they know what's at stake.
@HowWeAchieveOurselves
@HowWeAchieveOurselves Жыл бұрын
@@kugashira1018 Nice argument, you don’t have proof it doesn’t work. I’ve seen countless times where a player jumps in after a big hit and the guy making the hit didn’t throw another big one all game, happens all the time. And like you said when games are at a higher stake they don’t jump In but best believe when there’s not much on the line the 2m penalty is worth it to stand up for a teammate. Go play real hockey and maybe you’ll understand

Nah id say getting in a bare knuckle fist fight on skates in front of 18000 people while defending a teammate and upholding a standard is probably the farthest thing from soft as you can get. You obviously never played in a good enough junior league that has fighting so you don’t understand the reason. And don’t you think the fact that every player does it should tell you about how real high level hockey players think about it. How about this - why don’t you make the nhl and then you decide to fight and you can try to go I to one of those lockers and get pissed off at a teammate for standing up for you after you get blown up Center ice

There needs to be a stop to the stupidity of wanting a scrap after a clean hit. Instigators should get a game suspension and fined for the amount of pay per game. It's utter bullshit. I love big clean hits and fights where warranted.

@727 that's the dumbest statement I've read. Yes you can defend yourself and teammates but going after someone for throwing a clean hit, the only statement you are giving is my team can't take hits so stop playing the game the way it's meant to be played

@@mondredgaming8927 fighting and standing up for your team is part of the game too genius. The statement you’re giving is don’t target our players. @@HowWeAchieveOurselves LOL I'm dumb your the one taking a 5-minute for fighting and a 2 minute instigator because you don't know what a body check is. Fighting on a clean hit shows that you don't know the concept of hockey. Fighting over a clean hit is a dumb hockey play you are not sticking up for your teammate at that point you are showing that you don't understand the game or the way it is meant to be played. I also say that fighting has a spot in the sport and shouldn't be removed, but if I'm gonna have to fight for throwing a clean hit then they might as well remove hitting from the game completely. A good fight can swing the momentum of a game. but fighting over a clean hit gave the momentum to the other team. my Overall guess is that @727 has never worn skates in his life and just watches hockey in hopes to see fighting and that's why a clean hit is worth going after and fighting the hitter. Good job Buddy, you're a CHAMP!

Exactly why there's rarely hitting in the game now. Just the same people laying big hits. The enforcer's are the only ones who hit. Everyone else shys off because you end up in a fight. Ruining the game.
