If the NHL wasnt so soft in the front office, he'd have been getting his tongue sewed back on after someone uppercut him the moment they saw it. The 1970s NHL lineups of 4 goons, a skills guy and a goalie is not something to be proud of but the overcorrection that protects some of these guys has hurt the game in the other direction too.

Everyone here whining about "these arent all legends." A legend does not have to be a player that is the top of the game all time. Its someone who stands out and is talked about for years to come, who makes an impact and leaves a legacy that is outsized of their roster spot. Most of these guys definitely achieved that status. For an example outside of hockey, Steve Dalkowski was a Baltimore Orioles minor league pitcher who was estimated to throw above 120mph by Earl Weaver, Cal Ripken Sr. and many others who compared his speed as highly in excess of Nolan Ryan's. He Smashed a hole through a backstop with a pitch. After watching him warm up Ted Williams asked to step in against him and actually left the batters box after one or two pitches (going off memory sorry) because he knew he wasnt ging to be able to hit it, and didnt want to get hit by it. Dalkowski never made a name in the majors, is not one of the greatest of all time, but is still a legendary figure. Bertuzzi, Moore, Avery, Lucic are all legends for the things they did, but they are not legendary players like Sid, Ovi, Brodeur, Ryan Miller, etc.
