I "L"ove the L theory. I used to tell my young goalies to hold/freeze the puck whenever they can, the "I got it. You don't!" way of thinking. Excellent point about a goalie holding the puck, knowing that his team is good at winning faceoffs, especially in the defensive zone.

What are your thoughts about kicking rebounds purposefully to defenders? Happens about 1 to 3 times per game with me. Played soccer growing up so the foot skills are there. It's usually done with on-the-ice shots that are outside of the L zone you mentioned.

It would be a pretty highly skilled move to be done consistently, but I love it if you have the skill

Couple of quick questions What's your opinion on bringing your glove low (or down to the ice) to catch those fast on the ice shots. it's been a bit of a habit of mine but some of my my coaches seem to disagree. I Would often use it to get those really fast shots that were on the ice or a few inches above it on glove side or near to mid blocker side. Also what format would the spreadsheet be shared in (google sheets, PDF, etc.)
@FutureProGoaltendingUSA Жыл бұрын
If those low shots are off ice and you have time, use your glove. If they are flat ice the stick is safer. The spreadsheet is excel and the free app is on apple App Store. Search “goalie rebound tracker”
@JonnyC. Жыл бұрын
@@FutureProGoaltendingUSA Okay, thank you. When its flat on the ice would the stick be safer because of a possible rebound or would it just be area covered?
@FutureProGoaltendingUSA Жыл бұрын
@@JonnyC. a hard shot flat on the ice would be far safer to put into the corner. Miscatching a hard flat ice shot would leave a short chaos rebound. If it is a complete muffin, cushion with your stick and smother

I have am coaching a 15U girls goalie and on the shot from the point that is either to her right or left she will pivot and push to get her chest straight to the shot, and most of the time will make the stop but if its deflected or she leaves a rebound she ends up to sliding through the save and slides to far leaving a rebound or a puck sitting there for an easy tap in. Is there something i can say or have her do? thank you.
@FutureProGoaltendingUSA Жыл бұрын
If she has reactionary time on a long shot she shouldn’t let it get to her chest. Catch it clean with her trapper.

I'm having a hard time controlling/redirecting my rebounds on especially hard slap shots when making a pad or blocker save. At a certain point, the shot is so fast that I consider just making the save an accomplishment... Once a shot exceeds a certain speed, is it really expected that the goaltender also tries to strategically redirect the rebound? Thanks!
@FutureProGoaltendingUSA Жыл бұрын
If your current skill level doesn’t allow reaction time. Blocking saves will be required.
@T0rche Жыл бұрын
@@FutureProGoaltendingUSA Don't get me wrong, I do make the reactionary saves. I'm mainly a reactionary goalie because I'm not big enough to depend on pure blocking. My question was more for the "top" 10% hardest/fastest shots you'll face in a season, when stopping with blocker or pads, I stop them, but I don't seem to have the time to stop + redirect exactly where I want. Specially with the blocker I'd say. Adjusting the proper angle in time seems impossible at 95 mph+ speeds. I just stop it and it lands where it lands lol

@FutureProGoaltendingUSA Жыл бұрын
Unless you are playing pro, you will never see a 90mph shot. If you are just playing rec/ beer league and aren’t playing for a living just try your best to control rebounds.
