OhNyquist - but you use the word "terrible", which implies that their quality of play grew progressively worse over time. Hockey is more than stats, and it seems clear from the video that that's all you care about. Most of these guys were still good players, despite not showing up on the scoresheet. With the exception of Richards, who sucked his last year in Philly and had virtually nothing to do with the Kings winning the Cup, people are going to be able to argue that most of these guys were still decent throughout their careers.

Clarkson was a grinder from the beginning. Then, he just found an amazing scoring touch for a couple years. He tried to maintain it, but I just don't think he ever really had the skill to produce those kinds of points when it was expected of him. I think he just caught a bunch of guys off guard for a little while.

I think the common thread between these players is that the league started to get a lot faster around the 2011/12 season. These players werent known for their speed and as the league got faster, they fell further behind. Just my opinion.

It is a shame Richards went downhill so fast, though he still managed a respectable career. He did win an OHL championship, Memorial Cup, World Junior Championship, Olympic Gold, Calder Cup, and two Stanley Cups. He just missed winning the Selke in 2008 (Datsyuk won 945 votes to 942) and holds two NHL records: most career 3-on-5 goals (three) and is the only player to play in two series in which his team rallied from a 3-0 deficit. Definitely could have had more, but still managed a better career than most.

With Cheechoo, look at the other player involved in most of his goals in the 2005-06 season... Thornton came in red-hot with something to prove, and there's no other reason Cheechoo had such a massive spike in goals during that season.

I made the count and prior to Thornton's trade, Cheechoo had: 24 games: 7 goals/8 assists (15 points) after Thornton's arrival: 58 games: 49 goals/29 assists (78 points) Thornton had the very best season of his career that year and this obviously had an impact on Cheechoo. Anyone knows exactly what happened?

It turned out that Cheechoo had a shitload of lingering concussion problems that he kept under the table when he was playing that didn’t really come to light until after he retired. That’s why he dropped off so hard. Pretty sad really.

Carey interestingly is my favorite Capital player of all-time. I fell in love with the team when he was our starting goaltender. Loved his Pirate and brick wall mask. I also own his 1994-1995 game worn road red jersey, Maska CCM size 54. His unfortunate playoff demise gave way to Kolzig stepping in and helping us to our first Stanley Cup Finals appearance 20 years ago. While Carey never fully panned out as old school Caps fans had hoped, I remember him fondly.

I see some comments that argue you should go deeper than just stating the stats and lamenting the careers. I agree with those. As it is, this video doesn't really offer much. It only hilights four players based on stats only. If that is what you want to do, go for it. However, I'd recommend you put the stats in writing on the video as that is a superior way to demonstrate what you're talking about. And if you ever feel like it, maybe provide some background and possible reasons for the downward spiralling careers. I think that would enhance these kind of videos a lot. The lenght of the video itself doesn't have to be extented that much if you'd have to stats on screen, but, I fear it would require much more time from you to investigate the players' careers.

Cheechoo was only so good because of Joe Thorton. Gotta remember Thorton put up 92 points in 58 games when traded to the sharks the year Cheechoo scored 56 goals. And Thorton is one of the best playmakers ever. At that point in thorton's career a minor league player would have scored 30 goals on his line.

Hall never hit his full potential till now, Eberle never hit 70pts ever again, Schultz only broke out in pittsburgh, and Nugent-Hopkins never became the Toews or Datsyuk level center they thought he’d be.

If your stats slip because, as you're suggesting, the player knows he isn't fighting for a new contract - that's the player's fault. Not the team's fault. Show you earned the contract you got, not get content with underperforming.

Being a Blackhawks fan stated first I will say I loved Mike Richards. Nasty ball of hate to play against 2 way center who at his size shouldn't of held up w/ the physical play and prolong his career. Is why he wasn't first overall eh? W/ that talent,. he was a born leader w/ Kitchener and won a Memorial cup his draft year, what held him to late to mid first round was his size. They knew that the way he played he was not going to be long for the league. Then when injuries piled up he needed something for the pain. He was not a disappointment. Both LA cup teams and finals w/ Flyers they both would tell you none of that happens w/out him.

Ville Leino was a one hit wonder in the playoffs and then rode the success of that playoff run with the Flyers to one good season. 2 goals 2 assists in 13 regular season games in 09-10 then 7 goals and 14 assists in 19 playoff games. He had a decent 2011 season but was never really that good.
