One rivalry I'd like to mention is the one between Patrick Roy and Mario Tremblay, it didn't have much on ice events but it did have a HUGE impact on the Montreal Canadiens franchise. Funny enough, they recently made some Uber eats commercial together and seem to have made peace with one another.

Just a heads up on the Rob Ray jersey situation. Ray had velcro sewn into the top of his shoulder pads on and the inside of his jersey. He has the sleeves shortened, as well. If I remember correctly, he also had the neck widened. The fight strap was cut out. That's how he could just let the other player grab on and literally back out of all of his gear. Later, he went the opposite way and had (and this is true) kids safety straps from car seats sewn into the front AND back of his jersey so his jersey would never be pulled up over his head.

To add to some of your rivals stories in the video: Lyle Odelein was a guest on Barnaby's podcast not very long ago. They had a few laughs together and the feud is over. Rob Ray stole his antics from Marty McSorley. Marty was the first to sew his jersey to his pads then stop wearing shoulder pads altogether. @@MickeyMallone. Donald Brashear almost died because of the way he wore his helmet. Yes he was slashed/chopped/cheap shoted by McSorley but that should have had little effect on these cement heads. Domi was a wrestling villain more than a fighter. He figured if he got whipped (which he did more than not) he'd just mug and ham it up to act like he didn't. Probert kicked the crap out of him in round 2 (and there's a lot of contention fight one was a lark) and you didn't see him come around Probert than much more. He went after Probert's understudy, McCarty whooped him too. I don't think Tie Domi should ever be considered with the likes of Probert, Joe Kocur, Dave Brown, ect when it comes to fighting, and he certainly didn't have the skill of McCarty, or Probert. He was just an entertaining little mascot.

Very cool. Definitely worth the wait. Ray got so sick of being a punching bag he started to not affix his jersey so it came off during the fights, thus, his opponent couldn't grab it and hold his punching arm away - which is obviously the tactic used in almost every hockey fight, but again, Rob wan't very good at that so his only chance was to find some guy who had his jersey attached, which was just about 100% of all players. Probably the only way he didn't get his ass kicked every fight. It still didn't help him much. Tie Domi owned him in most of their fights, and Ray knew it. he was tough and didn't back down, but his fighting "reputation" isn't one of a great fighter, just one who fought a lot and lost a LOT.

Seems like every "Tough guy" at some point was a Ranger because ownership was loyal to nobody unfortunately. Domi, kocur, Langdon, MacCarthy, Brashear, Fotiu, Patterson, Boogard, some of the best in business filtered at some point threw NY. Look at them now they have Reeves who also is amongst the best ever. Same thing all the time, they wait to get pushed around then hire an assassin...just stay loyal to one's you had. Langdon hurt most because he was no joke, class act and team guy, and if you went with Langdon you better be prepared for 60 seconds or better which was why not many were interested in fighting except paid Goons.

Wow Rob Ray and Domi, not sure which one is more of an embarrassment to the game? I think this channel's fave players all have that in common.

Ray was never the same once the tie down rule was created.
@buttkick223 жыл бұрын
@@Retyrd_Squid bologna. He was an absolute punching bag his first couple of years in the league. He was in the NHL for over a decade AFTER the tie down rule and had some of his biggest wins and TKO’s during that time as well. People forget that everyone was using tricks back then. Dave brown, probert, mcsorely, basil mcrae, etc. anything from altering your sleeves, using velcro, wearing an oversized jersey to come out of easier, shaving the top of your helmet to make sharp points that would cut an opponents nuckles etc. Ray took it to another level. But he was a better fighter after the rule and would not have made it another 10+years…
