In that end of season clip Sheifele, sitting next to the interim head coach's son and all around team player (Lowry), Sheifele decides after not having a good year, nor even trying to play into the Jets' systems to use the time to promote himself. So not a great look.

Not to defend Eichel entirely, but when it comes to the surgery he wanted to get I still kinda side with him. Even if you have a history of being shitty and entitled, you're the one that has to live with that body once your hockey career is over. That type of thing should be the player's choice 100%.

The Sabres would’ve gladly let him have surgery had he wanted to stay but they ain’t taking the risk if he’s already requested a trade. Called asset management. Eichel is a pure asshole. Everyone now finally knows the truth about that loser. Anyone siding with him should have some mental tests done.

I don’t think it was personal. The surgery just complicated the trade they were trying to pull off. I feel like a lot of doctors that commented on the situation talked up the surgery, but all had hesitancy about being the first to do that on a hockey player.

As a Sabres fan who's happy as fuck that Eichel is gone, I'll still agree with you regarding the surgery/his rights. It was a blessing in disguise which made it easy for the fan base to part ways with him, and we fleeced Vegas in the trade to the point they may fail as a franchise

I was so happy the Wild didn’t jump in on the Eichel sweepstakes. We just got away from Suter and Parise ( I didn’t know of the Edina Rink situation ) but did know of Suter going to upper management to complain whenever he felt unjustly treated. Parise’s game had dropped off in his last few seasons here and he was not happy with being a healthy scratch. Evason plays who is best for the team and Guerin took care of this situation immediately. Even though the Wild is dealing with the money issues, it seems to have worked, 113 points and a deep pipeline for the future. The Jets situation is interesting and Wheeler is a MN player. It seems like he is a solid player and person, maybe not. Just like in business or work, a bad coach or manager can drive you out, same with other players, especially if it’s two of the supposed leaders. Great info 👍

Our stunningly incompetent FO dumped Fleury, Tuch, Krebs and Reaves (all fan favorites) to make room for Eichel, who was already badly injured. So they blew up the lineup, obliterated the cap, alienated fans, failed to make the playoffs, and made the Knights a laughingstock all for a player who didn’t even play for the first several months because he had to have surgery. I’m still waiting for someone to explain to me how that was a good idea. Rumor has it that there is some unease in the locker room because of the loss of favorites. The Knights will have to play cap juggling hockey in order to make everything make sense and to not alienate fans even more. This is our GM’s first GM position in the NHL by the way. Apparently, “cap” is only something you wear on your head.

Since the whole Eichel thing, draft prospects have all pointed out that it was clear in their interviews that Sabres were looking at personality, high character guys. Eichel completely shifted how they looked at players. He burned them
@victorhell1907
@victorhell1907 Жыл бұрын
But look at the Sabres since the trade, to add to your point. Tuch is a great pickup: a local kid who wants to be there and Krebs slots in nicely at C. Cozens can stay at C as the Sabres' 2nd right shot pivot or move to wing to provide another right shot along with Okposo, Hinostroza, who just re-signed along with the aforementioned Tuch. Quinn is another right shot option off the wing and he's a high draft pick coming off a good season in the AHL. Powers looks like the real deal on the blue line and Dahlin looked much improved after Granato took over behind the bench. If Lyubushkin can come in and throw his body around along with Dahlin, Samuelsson, Fitzgerald and a fully healthy Girgensons plus a maturing Brett Murray, the physicality should be there to make the Sabres a tougher out. Also, between Savoie, Ostlund, Kulich, Rosen, Nadeau, Bloom, Kisakov, Laaksonen, Ryan Johnson, Cedarqvist, Portillo, once he finishes up at Michigan, there'll be plenty of prospects vying for ice time. Sabres future looks pretty bright.

MN fan here, there were rumblings about it before he dipped, espcially out of Nashville. But it is like anything, you walk on eggshells when there is hope the talent can help, so I disagree with your assessment that the only reason they called him a cancer was because he got worse. Additionally, at least two prominent Wild players are now still around because of good locker room presence despite a drop in numbers, so that isn't the culture. Regardless, the cap hit Suter (and Parise) cost the Wild would certainly be enough to keep them around if there wasn't additional reasons for them to go.

That surgery is routine. If the team and player weren’t at odds it would have been a non issue. Plus, where outside of sports, does anyone have the right to dictate our choice of surgical procedures to endure? I mean, seriously this wasn’t a risky or experimental procedure. The real issue was Eichel being an extremely valuable, but totally cancerous (as you so rightly included him in your list) personality. The excuse of it being about the type of surgery let both buffalo and Eichel get what they both wanted.

Scheifele is by far the worst. Between him and Wheeler, they singlehanded destroyed a good Jets team from within. That’s why Laine, Roslovic, and Trouba left, it’s the reason why Big Buff decided to quit the team. Maurice is to be blamed too because he enabled and encouraged Scheifele’s behaviour.

Thanks for posting a video on a topic that's rarely talked about. I agree and not surprised about the players discussed. Taylor Hall could easily be added, as well as Dougie Hamilton, and Phil Kessel. Oilers traded Hall for that reason, and he's not changed. Flames threw a private party when Hamilton left. Kessel damaged the Leafs with his "we lost, oh well.. we suck anyway" attitude, and general laziness that spread like a cancer through the team. Thought maybe Benn/Seguin from Dallas, but not sure about it, lot of this stuff is kept private.

I never heard anything bad about Domi here in Columbus and I do know some of the players. He seemed to be liked. You can't put much stock in what Tortorella says because he never says anything good about anybody. The one player I do know was a big time issue was Ryan Dzingel. He didn't like anybody and the feeling seemed to be mutual. He wasn't offered a contract when he became a UFA and when Carolina did finally sign him, they couldn't get rid of him fast enough. This past season he started in Arizona, was traded to Toronto where he was promptly released and picked up by San Jose where he appeared in all of 6 games. He was so bad in Columbus that he was a healthy scratch for some of the playoff games against Boston in 2019.

When people say "what was Eichel supposed to say when asked about being better than McDavid" my response is that he should have been humble and said something very vague if anything at all. 7 years after the fact, we now see that Eichel is not even half as good as McDavid. In fact, at this point, Eichel would not go 2nd overall in a 2015 re-draft. He is definitely not living up to his 10 million dollar contract. So he has kinda made himself look like a fool for saying he was better than Connor McDavid. In sharp contrast, it was reported that at the time of the 1990 draft, Petr Nedved admitted that Jaromir Jagr was a far better player than himself. Of course, as we know, Nedved was proven right. Now Nedved had his own issues, but in this instance, I'm impressed that he was humble enough to admit that the other guy Jagr was better. So it was very ill-advised for Eichel to suggest he was better than McDavid, knowing deep down that in all likelihood, that wouldn't be the case. Now Eichel has egg on his face. Some negativity he could have avoided.

You know, to an extent I understand a player being pretty self-centered when it comes to his money and his ability to make more... **especially** in hockey. I'm a football fan who's learning hockey, but a couple things are clear even to me: - Team management doesn't give a crap about yesterday, they just care about what you can do for them tomorrow. So exactly how much to do you, the player, want to break your ass for a company that'll dump you and your contract the minute you get hurt? - Hockey players are like any other pro athlete. Mom, Dad and the rest of the family sacrificed A LOT to put you at the pro level. Sibling events got ignored, money that could have been better spent on the family went to sports for you, etc. **YOU** are the family's meal ticket, you owe them and you have to pay off. - Sometimes you just don't gel with a team or management style. I can't discuss this about hockey, but in the NFL if, say, a QB is drafted by a Defense First coach, that's gonna effect that player's bottom line. OTOH, at the end of the day you're still playing a team sport. If you play selfishly, you'll be out of the league faster than you can say 'idiot'. A balance has to be struck between all the forces tugging at a player, and failure to strike that balance has doomed more than one career.

With the Eichel situation, when it comes to him saying he was better than McDavid what was he supposed to do? Sell himself short and say he was second best? I'm sure he could have worded his statement better than he did but he would look like a fool if he just agreed that he was second best, if even that. And the whole situation with his surgery, I don't fault him for wanting surgery that he thought would be better and give him a better quality of life in the long run than whatever surgery Buffalo wanted him to have. Regardless of whether it hadn't been used before or not, there is no 100% guarantee that you'll come out of surgery better than you went in, especially when it involves areas like the neck or back. I don't get why he receives the hate he does for the surgery issue. However there is also no denying that Buffalo seemed to play better once that whole saga with him finally ended....who knows.

Yep, Minnesota is in cap hell for the next three seasons buy it's worth every penny. The Wild are a very different, much better team without Ryan Suter calling the shots and going over everyone's head by going straight to the owner with all his grievances. Equally to blame? Mike Yeo and Mikko Koivu for allowing it to happen for so many years. BTW, if you're not from Minnesota, the drive from St. Paul to Edina is never an easy one. Even on a weekend afternoon the traffic on I-494 is a nightmare.

I think Buf's injuries near the end of his career might have had him questioning his human vulnerability, and concerns about his long term physical condition. Just guessing. I love the guy, have immense respect for him. Honestly, his physical strength, for years, bordered on the supernatural, yet he had great agility and skill, as well. Always loved his playful attitude, sense of humour, and love of the game. (obviously, I am biased and a big Buf fan). 😊

NHL trainer here. Pretty sure almost all of these are legit, except Jack. It is common knowledge around the league that Buffalo is a miserable place to play, for many reasons. He had every right to ask for a trade and to have that surgery. It’s funny how fans think players owe them something. They owe you nothing.
@seancosgrove1
@seancosgrove1 Жыл бұрын
Eichel got the correct surgery for his injury. Someone had to be the first hockey player to get the superior procedure. Buffalo not allowing it for so long was a dick move on their part. Also, from day 1, management publicly treated Eichel as the guy they had to settle for by "losing" the lottery. Being drafted by a team with incompetent management like the Oilers or Sabers seems incredibly frustrating. I wouldn't put it all on him.

Eichel...from the draft the claimed that Edmonton will regret taking Mc David over him. So, I can see how the arrogance of Eichel and his inabillity to accept that a Canadian is better than him could be toxic in a room.........but wow, he must watch Mc David highlights alone in ahhhhhhhhhh

Think it was JS Dea that was outspoken about the noticeable difference in Eichel’s leadership vs Crosby; saying that Crosby is the type you wanna go into battle with (unlike Eichel). When you have owners and a (former Stanley-Cup-winner) GM that are from Buffalo, that’s the last thing they wanna hear is their captain wants out. But his postgame comments about the Buffalo fans when he returned to play the Sabres were rather childish - right up their with Avery’s “sloppy seconds” remark. By the end of this season, Sabres players were all smiles and didn’t want the season to end. How’s that for a shift in culture

MAJOR entitlement issues. And worse than that, I feel like Mathews, Nylander and Tavares are all "Salary and stat" guys. THAT is what they play for. So they really have no desire to get beaten up in the playoffs for two months when they already have what they want.....Marner.....it's funny, he takes a TON of crap.....but I think he's the closest thing they have to a legit captain. The talent is there with the Leafs but it is an AWFULL mixture of top end talent, playing styles and personalities.

@@politicalbandwagon4989 I don't know....Do. you get the feeling anyone is unhappy there? It seems to me that most of the "top guys" just want to collect their pay check, get their stats, and then get the hell out of town. I'm not sure they admit that to themselves, they probably think they are honest when they say they want to win...but I just don't think the leaders want to play for two months for free and have to subject themselves to legit violence. Paying these guys everything upfront really screwed the team. In their minds, I don't believe that there is anything left to motivate them. Do they REALLY want a cup?? I'm sure they would LIKE to have one, but are they willing to pay the heavy price that is charged to achieve one?? To win a cup you must be willing to SUFFER, that is why it is held in such high esteem. If you've won a Stanley Cup, you've been through a gang war....I don't think these guys are up for a gang war.

Deangelo has gone quiet for a couple years. He at least is smart enough to shut his mouth and play. He has burned the bridge in New York and Carolina. If he can keep quiet maybe he'll be an okay offensive defenseman in the league. I couldn't figure why Minnesota bought out both Suter and Parise at the same time. Good for Bill Guerin. Scheifele does seem like a jerk and a problem. His running of Jake Evans in the playoffs is something I've never gotten past. It did seem the height of self centered behaviour. Right now he's pitching a Cy Young season and waiting to get out of town. Trade him. Domi seems terrible. Buffalo seems so much better without Eichel. I don't think you can win with him.
