The bigger dang it about the Stars goal, is that the last stoppage prior to the end of the period happened with 1:40 left. The whistle was actually blown at 1:42, and the clock operator didn’t stop it until 2 seconds later. If you check the full game highlights on the NHL KZbin channel, you can check it for yourself. I think that had the clock stopped even at 1:41, the Seguin goal would have counted. That’s a dang it

After the flames coloring and the bruins getting the penalty and today (March second) the rangers going on the penalty kill for a “high sticking call” (turns out the stick that hit a senator player belonged to a senators player) really shows that we need to be able to use the replay to make the right calls.

Potentially hot take here, Jarvis jumped. That was two players battling for inside position and he felt the pressure and knew he might draw a penalty if he falls. They are neck and neck, if anything a push would have sent him into the post, but he has a direct hit on Talbot. I think at best it's a grey area, but I'm more than a little sus he tried to buy a call but instead was rewarded with a goal. Also totally get him not trying to move because he knows the cannon is about to fire.

Baseball's official rulebook literally has a section directly stating that it is better to spend ten minutes getting a tough call right than to make a quick decision. Integrity of the game is paramount. The same principle applies in hockey, which is why there shouldn't be a cap on review lengths, and why I think more things should be reviewable, like penalties. Tripping vs. stepping on the puck, puck over the glass vs. a deflection, high sticks vs. friendly fire when there's no blood...

I have a simple solution for the reviews. They were never intended to catch 2 inch offsides. They were meant to stop egregious ones so the refs get to watch it once in regular motion and once at half speed and if it's not really obvious, then they call on the ice stands. Period.

I played hockey in Boston 60's,70's, we'd go and stay with Canadian families and have tournaments, best time of my life, thank you to those wonderful families who treated us so well. My pet peeve is goalies who handle the puck behind the net, I know you don't get to handle the puck much on a game and a lot of the time your just standing there watching the action in the other end, please stay in your net, when you handle the puck your own D can get confused, two seconds later it's in the net, stay home.
