I’m a Wild fan, but what Spurgeon did was just filthy, stupid and should’ve been punished with more than a graze of the wrist. It wasn’t even a slap, literally, what a joke. I usually adore our captain, but it wasn’t a quick retaliation, it was an aimed cross check at the ankle, a clear attempt to injure.
@EvaMaster1012 жыл бұрын
As my bro put it, he was saved by his spotless record and the fact that he (thankfully) does not cause an injury. Any large D-man causes a major injury there but Spurgeon is saved by his size. Doesn't make it not dirty, and doesn't make the NHL's decision correct, but there it is.

As another Wild fan who always thought Spurgeon has made a name for himself by playing clean, smart hockey, and the fact he plays as well as he does in his position for his size, I was very disappointed in his actions, so stupid, and not only should he have been fined more heavily and probably suspended, but it should have been immediately addressed. You missed a moment in Game 1 between the Rangers and the Penguins where the refs took the game away from the Rangers. Chytil scored what should have been the game winning goal late in the 3rd period, but the ref called it no goal because of goalie interference. But if you look at the replay, Kakko was PUSHED INTO THE GOALIE BY A PENGUIN!! HE CLEARLY TRIED TO AVOID CONTACT AND HE WAS CLEARLY PUSHED IN, WHICH CLEARLY MEANS THAT IT IS NOT GOALIE INTERFERENCE! PLUS, CHYTIL WAS THE GOAL SCORER, NOT KAKKO! I THINK IT WOULD APPLY TO THE PLAYER SCORING THE GOAL! BUT EVEN IF IT ISN'T, HE WAS PUSHED IN!!! IT WAS CLEAR AS DAY, AND THE REFS STILL CALLED IT INTERFERENCE!! And because of that, not only did the game go to triple overtime (which were intense), but it gave the Penguins the win as Malkin scored in the 3rd overtime. The triple overtime should have never happened. That game should have ended in regulation. But it didn't ALL BECAUSE OF THE STUPID REFS!! THEIR STUPIDITY HAS COST THE RANGERS THE GAME! IF THE CALL WAS DONE RIGHT, CHYTIL WOULD SCORE THE GAME WINNER, AND THE RANGERS WOULD TAKE GAME 1 IN REGULATION! THE STUPIDITY AND STUBBORNNESS BY THE REFS SCREWED US! IT'S RIDICOLOUS!! No, the Kochetkov incident was not a dang-it for Carolina "because they didn't come to his defense". 1) Raanta was punched in the face while run into by Pastrnak, and Kochetkov sees firsthand on the bench that the Bruins will hurt anyone they have to in order to try to win, including the goaltender. 2) Marchand is the league's consistently dirtiest player and you can see him trip, high stick, cross check, and punch other players during the entire game but he only gets called for 2-ish penalties. (Typical call results for Marchand/Bruins). 3) Kochetkov is cross checked by Marchand, showing Kochetkov firsthand how desperate Boston is and how the dirty Bruins will try to hurt anyone they can, so Kochetkov stands up for himself against Marchand to let Marchand know he won't let him get away with his crap. Kochetkov even gives Marchand a nod, almost as if to say "bring it" to Marchand, then Marchand swings his stick like a bat and the ref skates in to protect Marchand immediately. The Canes are more focused on winning the series and not stooping to Boston's dirty level, so jumping in would risk penalties, further injury, and possible suspensions. TDA acknowledged this after the game and the Canes all know this is part of Boston's game but that they shouldn't stoop to Boston's level.

Steave, I know you were trying to keep the vid short but how do you not show when the wild thought they got a hat trick and everyone threw their hats on the ice and then the goal got called off. Can you at least mention this in hat picks when you talk about krill the thrills hat trick from that game.

Did anyone else notice, how in the clip starting at 3:14 the two Nashville players both slide towards the endboards -- one feet first, one head first -- and right as they crash into them and are back on their feet -- like _right_ in that moment when they manage to turn their heads back to the goal, they see Rittich trying to kiss the crossbar! One could not have choreographed it more beautifully!

I was hoping for a dang it for Joel Erickson Ekk getting a hat trick, Fans throwing 10,000 dollars worth of hats onto the ice, and then the goal being disallowed. Ya, that's a dang it. (and yes I know kaprizov got another goal right afterward completing his own hat trick but still)

As a Wild fan, I just want to say that I am EXTREMELY disappointed and ashamed in Jared Spurgeon's actions. And I think I speak for all Wild fans when I say that. That behavior is absolutely disgraceful, and as you stressed, has absolutely no place in the sport. I would have completely understood a suspension for Spurgeon. So the fine of a mere $5K (max allowable fine is, as I learned, 0.25% of a player's salary) is not just laughable, it's pathetic and infuriating. Yes, I'm going to root for the Wild, but I simply cannot defend Spurgeon in good conscience here. In soccer, that would be a straight red card (ejected from the game AND your team has to play short a man for the rest of the match AND you can't be part of the 18- or 23-man squad for the next 1-2 matches). I don't care if you're angry, Jared. That is childish! Good night.

I don't think the Kochetkov thing should be a dang it. He's proven in the AHL that he's willing to stand up for himself and fight his own battles. If Marchand wants to get laid out by a human tank twice his own size, he doesn't need the help of the rest of the Canes. Pyotr can hold his own and can absolutely pummel him.

Full Disclosure, I am a Hurricanes fan. I say not a dangit as most of the team on the ice was already occupied by the scrum in the opposite corner while this was going on. And by the time any of them probably realized what was going on, the linesman was already there and taking Marchand off the ice. And going after him later would just be inviting punishment by the league. Plus as noted by someone else, Kochetkov seems to be able to handle himself and I think would have no issues getting a piece of Marchand if needed.

I might be a bit biased because I’m a Bruins fan, but the goalie was out of his crease and going for the puck like he was going to make his own play. As you always say, “If you’re a goaltender, tend the goal!” but I’m pretty sure I saw that guy almost go all the way to the blue line at least once or twice. When Marchand touched the goalie, he was out of the crease and the puck was on its way to another Canes player. Marchand didn’t try to block him from returning to his crease, where he should have been heading back to, and instead decided to shove Marchand like he wanted to pick a fight. And of course Marchand is a little stinker and gives him a tap to be like “Cut it out.” A goalie’s pads are supposed to be enough to block shots going faster than a car on the highway, that stick tap probably didn’t even get through. The Canes didn’t even come rallying to the rookie goalie’s defense, so I think even they saw the goalie was partially at fault there. The guy doesn’t speak a lick of English either, or so I heard from commentators. Fresh from the Russian leagues and maybe still playing by their rules of being a scrappy goalie. EDIT: Apparently this guy has a history of picking fights, he’s even tried to go across the ice to pick a fight with the other goalie. So was Marchand wrong for hitting the guy with his stick? Yea. But the goalie didn’t have any business trying to start a fight in the first place. That’s an L for both sides. I’m probably gonna get blasted for just being a Bruins fan commenting here but I don’t care lol I’ve loved the team for over 20yrs and that’s not gonna change.
@daniellebrossoie82152 жыл бұрын
Marchand had no business contacting the goalie in the first place. Kochetkov took exception and gave a small slash, then a shove. So th fault is all on Marchand for instigating, especially after the bruins already took out Raanta. Then to take a two hand baseball-swing slash is over the top. Whether the the goalie felt it much is irrelevant.
@therecanbeonly14972 жыл бұрын
My only comments would be that there was no need to contact the goalie in the first place - but it's Marchand so... And it's definitely more of a dang-it for a veteran like Marchand who has to go to the box, Carolina gets to pick someone to serve the goalie's penalty. Marchand sat in the box while Carolina scored an insurance goal.

10:00 - It's not like it's as bad as when Chris Pronger stomped on Ryan Kesler's leg with his skate. And after the initial review from NHL Player Safety, he wasn't even suspended. It wasn't until a new angle was submitted to them and they were requested to re-review it did they hand him an 8-game suspension.

What I don’t understand is the Coyotes sent the blues into overtime, then came back to beat the wild, beat Dallas, then also beat up on Nashville in the last 4 games. That’s just insane!
