The rule on the Penguins goal I remember from the St. Louis Winnipeg series from 2019. Rule 63.6. A goal may be score on a dislodged net if, the shot was taken or being taken before the net came off, check, the net coming off was the action of a player on the defending team, check, and if the puck would’ve gone into the net had it still been on the pegs, check. The ref didn’t explain it particularly well, but it’s the correct call.

On the Smith potential "goalie interference" play, I see it completely different. Hear me out. Point 1, Grundy was tripped. Any time a offensive player is otherwise forced into the defending team goalie as a direct result of the defending team hitting/tripping/obstructing the offensive player, it is not goaltender interference. This happens all the time. How often do you see a defending player knock down an attacking player into their own goalie? Those are never called for goalie interference if they feel that the player was forced into making contact with the goalie. Point 2, the big point where I think the long delay was really a result of. I don't think Smith was even complaining about goalie interference but something else. Did Grundy while on the ice push the puck into the goal with his hand? This is for sure not allowed and probably what they were actually reviewing. Overall review, Grundy was tripped and forced into the goaltender, thus no goaltender interference. Was puck pushed across the line with Grundy's hand? If inconclusive, then call on the ice stands, which was a goal. If it was pushed in using his hands, then it's no goal and up to referee discretion if it merits a penalty shot or just a tripping penalty.

@@cameronfrye4751 But then you open the door to "well he had a breakaway so I pushed him into the goalie so we have a penalty shot instead of an easy goal" possibility. You cant reward the defense for causing the goalie to be hit either. But you do have a good point in the time it takes to get there. To me, he didn't have time NOT to hit the goalie so it should still be a goal, he barely had time to fall down before hitting the goal with his head on the way down. So, McGinn's goal and why it wasn't a penalty shot: The puck was technically a shot on goal. With this being the case if the net comes off and the puck goes in where the net would have been (Edit: So long as the net is dislodged by the defending team.) then the NHL rules state that the goal is to be awarded as if the net was still in its place. Similar plays have happened a number of times in the past. Here is what might be the best possible example of this rule in place from a goal for New Jersey 3 years ago against Arizona: kzbin.info/www/bejne/romapq2Ylt6qgck As for Carl Grundstrom's goal: I do not see a reason that it should not count. A defenseman tripped him up. Steve even mentioned this. When an opposing player careens, falls onto, or any other possible action into the defending teams goalie due to a defending players action it isn't goalie interference and is therefore a good goal should the puck go in. Goals like this have been getting scored for years. I genuinely don't understand why this is still something that is debated and I really don't understand why this took 7 minutes to review.
@Sparxcwg542 жыл бұрын
Re: Grundstrom: because it *shouldn't* be a goal. It should be a penalty shot. Intentional or not, influenced by another player or not, it stopped the goaltender from playing his position. Send it to the penalty shot if it's on a breakaway, and to the PP if it's on a zone play
@rainsilent2 жыл бұрын
@@Sparxcwg54 By the rules it is a goal therefore it should be a goal. If a defending player causes an attacking player to interfere with the goalie's ability to play his position it doesn't matter and any goal that is scored during subsequent play is a good goal. Grundstrom got forced into Smith by the defender's actions. The puck went in as part of that collision. No penalty shot or penalty is needed as a goal was scored on the play. It is no different then a delayed penalty that gets wiped with a goal being scored. Now, if you want to argue that those goals shouldn't be goals then I would ask why? Preventing these goals from counting further encourages defending players to shove attacking players into their own goalies to disallow what would otherwise be good goals. Sure, the defending team might have to stop a penalty shot or kill a power play after the fact but a power play is only about 25% successful and a penalty shot is only about 40% successful on average in the NHL. Compare those chances to what was otherwise a guaranteed goal and which would you take as the attacking team? Allowing the goal is by far the better and more sensible option. Also it encourages defending players to not shove attacking players into their own goalies, as if it doesn't happen way more than it should already.
@snowfloofcathug2 жыл бұрын
I agree fully
@apocello422 жыл бұрын
The only thing I see as a possibility on the Grundstrom goal is if it was pushed in by his hand as they were in close proximity when the puck went in. If he did push it with his hand then I could understand the argument for a PP or PS otherwise that's just a good goal.

Mike Smith was saving that "shot" (technically was pushed in by his hand adding another factor) by Grundstrom all day. Nurse also clearly trips him causing the collision with Smith. I think in this situation because the puck crossed the goal line before the whistle a penalty shot should be awarded. Then, much like a coach challenging a play if the fouled player scores on the penalty shot then the game continues as normal, but if the PS doesn't result in a goal then in this case an appropriate 2 minute minor should be assessed to the offending team.

I had to know the backstory of that rejected kiss at the end, and sure enough it's all over the place. According to the guy, Matt McHugh, he and his girlfriend of 10 years, both Penguins' fans, had already kissed for that goal, but he went in for a 'second' kiss knowing that the camera was turned on them. Unfortunately, she was unaware of the camera and just thought he was trying to steal another kiss for the same goal, to which she jokingly rejected him. LOL, instant viral meme in the making.

The Coyotes had an OT winner that went through the net this season, I can't remember who they were playing against but it was in a Dang-its video

John LeClair of the Flyers blasted one through the net but it was the opposite. It counted as a goal but when they watched the replay it actually went through the side of the net and into the goal. Shouldn't have counted but by the time they figured it out it was too late

McGinn's goal falls under Rule 63.7 (Delaying the Game - Awarded Goal) - if an attacking player has taken a shot or is in the process of taking a shot when the goal is displaced by the actions of a defending player, the referee can award the goal. McGinn had already shot the puck toward the net as Nemeth came in. The puck bounced off Nemeth then Shesterkin as Nemeth's momentum took the net off its moorings. There is no legitimate reason not to award this goal. Similarly, Copp's shortie counted for the same reasoning - he was in the process of batting the puck out of the air as Letang's momentum took him into the net. Grundstom's goal falls under Rule 69.1 (Interference on the Goalkeeper) - if a defending player pushes or fouls an attacking player who then makes contact with the goalkeeper then goalkeeper interference isn't to be called. I think the reason it took so long to review was because it looked like the puck may have gone off Grundstrom's glove after he fell (17:03), which would bring Rule 67.6 (Handling the Puck - Disallowed Goal) into play.

Goaltender Interference Rules 1) You can't just be up there and just doin' an interference like that. 1a. Interference is when you 1b. Okay well listen. An interference is when you interfere the 1c. Let me start over 1c-a. The skater is not allowed to do a block to the, uh, goalie, that prohibits the goalie from doing, you know, just trying to save the puck. You can't do that. 1c-b. Once the skater is in the offensive zone, he can't be over here and say to the goalie, like, "I'm gonna get ya! I'm gonna block your view! You better watch your butt!" and then just be like he didn't even do that. 1c-b(1). Like, if you're about to make a goal and then don't leave the crease, you have to still leave the crease. You cannot not avoid the goaltender. Does that make any sense? 1c-b(2). You gotta be, skating motion out of the crease, and then, until you just leave it. 1c-b(2)-a. Okay, well, you can have your stick up here, like this, but then there's the interference you gotta think about. 1c-b(2)-b. Fairuza Interference hasn't been in any movies in forever. I hope she wasn't typecast as that racist lady in American History X. 1c-b(2)-b(i). Oh wait, she was in The Waterboy too! That would be even worse. 1c-b(2)-b(ii). "get in mah bellah" -- Adam Water, "The Waterboy." Haha, classic... 1c-b(3). Okay seriously though. An interference is when the skater makes a movement that, as determined by, when you do a move involving the goalie and the crease... 2) Do not do an interference please.

A bit of a constructive criticism/ idea, while doing the Dang-Its / Hat-Picks, keep the teams in their own section, for example, Rangers Penguins clips with the other clips from the same game/series
