I sometimes consider using products with high amount of Green Tea extract instead of Niacinamide, because Green Tea gives quite similar benefits but definitely gentler; - Control sebum production - Minimize the appearance of pore size - Anti inflammation - Counteract acne - Assist to tackle scars - Sensitive skin friendly - Sunscreen booster It may not have the brightening effect like Niacinamide but gentler than the already-gentle niacinamide. I can have whole skincare steps including green tea and result is impeccable. Love both ingredients!

I was literally thinking about this when this video was recommended. I have dry, sensitive, acne-prone skin with no issues using Niacinamide in the past. However, recently I started using a buffet serum that contains 5% Niacinamide, followed by a moisturizer that contains Niacinamide as the 4th ingredient, then a Sunscreen that has Niacinamide high up the ingredient list. It led to a massive breakout! My pitted acne scars became deeper and it left my skin in a vulnerable condition. I think my facial skin can tolerate Niacinamide in low concentrations like 3% with amazing results but not beyond that. Curiously, I now use the 5% Niacinamide in my hands, my feet with amazing results.

I guess this is one of the benefits of using very simple products. My cleansers are very simple (i use the inkey list oat cleansing balm and the simple micellar gel face wash) and I use a very basic moisturizer (either the simple light hydrating moisturizer or their water boost gel moisturizer). I then tailor my other stuff to how my skin is feeling. This really works for my skin because my core products have very basic ingredients and aren't making any claims to drastically change your skin meaning the serums can effectively do their job.

Surprisingly none of my skincare products have Niacinamide in it. I usually use the one from The Ordinary but it's too drying for me at the moment because of my skin getting used to Retinol and the side effects. I like the fact that you're talking about Panthenol & Allantoin as I recently bought a new german drugstore moisturizer that contains Panthenol & Allantoin (+Glycerin, Urea & Sheabutter)! Makes me feel like I'm doing things right😄 Have a great Sunday!

And I quite like it, sometimes at night I add a drop of squalane to make it a bit more hydrating, so I was thinking to get the one with Urea as well, but am kind of affraid of the Shea butter :D The toner and the face wash gel are also nice.
@by.aminah
@by.aminah 3 жыл бұрын
@@manuela1986 I actually really like it. It doesn't sink into the skin completely though, it leaves a slightly tacky layer (or maybe I just tend to use too much again, need to work on that) but it might actually be because of the shea butter. But I actually prefer it that way because especially in the winter my skin gets very dry and dehydrates easily so it's perfect. Sometimes I mix it with my Marula Oil from The Ordinary and it works really well for me. I've had very very dry and flaky skin on my jaw because of my Retinol product and I used the Balea moisturizer and literally after 2-3 days it was gone.

Thats crazy, sorry to hear. I only got into niacinamide serums in the last year because it was always marketed as being beneficial for those with super sensitive or reactive prone skin which I dont have. I assumed using bha, retinal, etc for years that niacinamide would be too mild for me lol. I finally decided to try it as liked the idea of alternating it in the morning with my vitamin c serum since it has the mild exfoliation, brightening and balancing benefits and being gentle for day compared to the actives I use at night. Has been amazing for my combo blemish/oily prone skin since. No other active that is so calming while keeping my skin clear so has been super unique for me. I comically started with serums like Glossier with much lower percentages and had literally no results aside from feeling like I was just applying a hydrating serum that didnt do anything else. In that I might be in the minority but Naturium's amazing 12% formulation in a hydrating base of other beneficial ingredients has been holy grail for me in actually seeing results of brightening, balancing tzone oiliness, calming. Maybe per my skin being so used to other actives I alternate in my routine or the fact that I only use one specific designated niacinamide product who knows but highly rec Naturium's for anyone else with no issue. Many other great brands (Geek Gorgeous, Good Molecules, Facetheory, Paula's Choice) with Niacin serums out there if they work for you at the lower percentage which just isnt the case for me. Oddly same when I've tried Niacin Toners including Naturiums/Good Molecules . Literally have done nothing but overhydrate my oily prone skin and add an unneeded step in my routine. Getting all my actives in a serum seems to be my sweet spot while keeping cleanser, toner, and moisturizers simple and gentle formulas with no actives.

Just a while ago I noticed my skin started itching when I applied niacinamide (never happened before) so I stopped using it everyday. It can also be just that, apart from a single ingredient, we're doing *too much*, like sometimes we get so excited about skincare that we want to try all our new products the soon as possible so we try to use as many as we can (without mixing ingredients that can't be mixed) but I think sometimes we need to go with the basics. Like in the morning just go with the moisturizer and sunscreen, and in the evening instead of alternating between exfoliating/retinol ecc also take some days where you're not using anything 'stressing'. I've been trying to do this for the last few weeks because I felt my skin was stressed and now it feels much better.

Recently got into the Ordinary bandwagon and now i have a few sorta-cystic acnes popping up on my combi-but-not-usually-acne-prone face. I realized that 1. Aside from the 10% niacinamide serum, at least 2 of my other products also have it, and 2. I’m putting waaaaay too much at around 5 drops (because i naively thought it’s similar to my fave dear klairs vitC serum when it came to usage). Solution: when I’m using the serum, i make aure that my other products are free of it; also i don’t use chemical exfoliating actives on days i use the serum. And finally, yes, calming gel/creams work like a charm. The acnes have shrunk in a matter of days. Lesson learned: don’t dump too many actives on the skin in one sitting. 😌

Hi Rob unlike many viewers very few of my products contain niacinamide. I use a lot of Korean beauty, but many of them are fairly simplistic ingredient lists (due to my choices being good for my rosacea and eczema prone skin). My actives are often single ingredient products eg Apad and Agame, plus my moisturisers are mostly basic lowering the amount of ingredients my skin is exposed to in any one routine. I like niacinamide for my skin, but use the Inkey list niacinamide serum (in a controlled way) when I want this ingredient in my routine. Out of all the more affordable options, the IL version is the most hydrating in my opinion and my skin seems to enjoy it. I often use it under a retinoid to enhance the retinoid and help soothe the skin. I am careful not to layer too much niacinamide and only use the dedicated serum when my other products don't contain this ingredient. I think most people will benefit from niacinamide somewhere in their routine, but agree few of us need it in high amounts. As to whether we need a stand alone serum - it depends what else we're using. Many skincare enthusiasts will want a stand alone serum on some days, depending on what else is being used in the routine. Just blindly layering multiple products (without any idea of what is in them) is a vastly different thing. Brands like the ordinary really kicked off the layering of single actives, without the background knowledge of interactions or when not to layer. This caused skin issues for a lot of people, but hopefully the knowledge now available will encourage people not to do that anymore. Best wishes.

Great Vid thanks!!! I think people are using the "booster" products wrong. They can actually do amazing things to the skin if used correctly. These products are formulated very strong and are meant to enrich for example your favorite moisturizer with an active ingredient, but with adding a few drops into another product u don't add like "20% niacin" onto your face and you have control over how much u use. In the beginning of 2019 i ordered the vitC booster and the niacinamide booster from paula's choice and i had the best skin of my life so far i couldn't believe how clear and glowy my skin got after a few months! My combination skin is acne prone and very sensitive to many skincare ingredients, means if it don't like something I react with painful pimples. 🙄 As they recommend i started incorporating both very slowly (once or twice a week) and mixing it INTO my fav moisturizer. First just the niacin at night and then after 2 weeks the vitC in the morning. My skin tolerated well without any side effects. Just 2 drops of each were enough so they lasted quite a while. The results really take some time. I just kept going because the boosters were expensive and i got used to add the drops into my fav moisturizer 😂 I was surprised when I suddenly noticed that my skin is looking better and my tzone wasn't getting very oily anymore in the summertime. (FYI: Just stopped purchasing from PC because they use a lot of silicones and polymers. These aren't biodegradable and i think we need to stop poisoning the environment!)

I tried to include a 10% niacinamide gel a couple of times in my routine (slowly phasing in) and my skin reacted every single time so now it goes on my neck and chest 2 or 3 times a week. I got acne clusters on areas of my face where I normally don't get acne at all. I'm actually happy your brand will be without it as I already got a small amount in my moisturizer 😊 Have a lovely week!

Brilliant video! I started using niacinamide to address large pores, texture, and dullness. It worked beautifully. I know this because I mistakenly grabbed TO hyaluronic acid bottle instead of niacinamide when I went to replace it one time. After a week, I started noticing problems. I finally realized my mistake and now my skin is looking wonderful! I have noticed some dryness from it, so, per your recommendation, I buffer it between the amino acids serum and the SubQ mist. Also, I don't use any other product that has niacinamide in it. I'm glad you are encouraging everyone to read the ingredients in all the products they are using so they know exactly what is going on their skin!!

Excess is always a problem. People think if one is good, two is better. Combine that idea with skin care marketing and people can easily irritate their skin.

So on point... the same with other actives. Some serums have niacinamide vit C derivatives and such, so adding more irritates the skin.

Started using The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% since September 16th along with The Ordinary NMF moisturizer & The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion(every alternate day). I am unsure if what's happening to my skin is purging or breakout, I naturally have oily skin and get acne once in a while. However, currently I have a lot if acne in my T-zone and it's causing me to worry. I have stopped using the moisturizer for the past week, think it could be causing my skin to be even more oily. The acne hasn't stopped still. Should I stick to the products a little bit longer?

I can use niacinamide in products like my cleanser, essence, moisturizer, sunscreen ect and it doesnt irritate my skin at all. The second I try to add in a dedicated niacinamide serum it irritates my skin soooo bad. I get an almost over exfoliation feeling. I definitely think with most products now a days containing niacinamide there is absolutely no reason to add a stand alone niacinamide serum to your routine. It's just to much. Literally, my cleanser, hydrating toner, essense, purito buffet serum, green tea emulsion and moisturizer have niacinamide listed fairly high on the ingredient list. Why add more. Especially since the studies claim that 2-5% is more than enough.
