Yes, I was new to the Ordinary, of course I ignored their warnings and bought too much. No problem in the summer, but when it got cold and super dry here in Montana, boy did I have irritation. I eliminated everything, gradually have worked back up to fewer products, alternating treatments weekly. When I went back to the Niacinamide, back came the roughness, I'm going to try it mixed with my moisturizer. I only watch Dr. Dray now, she is the best!

Whatever people say or try to downplay it. A mild cleanser twice a day like Cerave Foaming Cleanser for normal to oily skin, Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% twice a day, light gel moisturizer and Tretinoin 0.05 have changed my face in 24 days. I experienced mild peeling from the Tretinoin (started 3 times a week now I'm using it every night), redness after applying the Niacinamide but faded after 10mins. My skin now looks healthy, flowy, less visible pores, basically no breakouts at all (never had many but sometime I would have 1 or 2 stranded, not anymore) and the overall change throughout the day were I don't feel the need to blot excess oil every midday or afternoon. Worked wonders for me

the same! I have just 4 products in my routine. Cerave Foaming Cleanser +Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%+ Cerave moisturizer in morning and +trerinoin micro 0,4 in night! Only 1 month passed and my face is completely clean now. By the way, I also had the same irritation and peeling for the first week. But that went away after I started using tretinoin on top of my moisturizer, as many dermatologists advise. Now i use tretinoin every day and everything is fine, I think my skin is very responsive to tretinoin and niacinamide

From what you described w people being more drawn to the serums, I specifically use the Ordinary 10% niacinamide serum bc it works better w my moisturizer. Mine (aveeno oat gel) doesn’t have it, but I am one of the rosacea people who can’t tolerate thick moisturizers, so this is an ideal combo for me. I apply the drops to wet skin & go in w my moisturizer after. And the 10% doesn’t bother me at all. In fact, it is *the* thing that keeps my skin calm, and thus my acne & rosacea under control. It was the thing that saved me this summer from a horrendous bout of acne & rosacea flaring, caused by stress, masks, and humid weather. I can’t live without that stuff lol!

So, I've been watching both Idriss and Dray videos, and I appreciate their different perspectives on many things such as whether niacinamide is better in a serum or moisturizer. I think Dray's probably right that it functions just as well in a moisturizer. However, I'm still considering a 5% serum like Super Pure because I don't want to be limited with my moisturizer options. It just seems simpler not to have to tie my moisturizer/sunscreen decision to whether or not it includes niacinamide. It would be my only morning serum, so no crazy layering going on. I think the 5% serums have their place.

Niacinamide is great! I don't have access to most of the products Dr Dray recommends but I try to follow the tips she gives. One of the products I have been using is Nature Republic's Pure Cherry Blossom Toner and its fourth ingredient is niacinamide (the entire line has niacinamide pretty high up in the ingredient list) and it helped with my hyperpigmentation and general brightening effect on my complexion. If you're not sensitive to fragrance (the scent isn't overpowering, it's pretty subtle) or plant extracts I really recommend the entire line! It's pretty affordable too.

I should have listened to you when you had mentioned in an earlier video about how The Ordinary's Niacinamide serum could be irritating for some people due to the 10% concentration of it, and that the recommended percent is actually 5. I thought it would work so amazing on me cause of the reviews and it ended up breaking me out so bad every single day for like almost 2 months. I've never been acne prone in my life until I used that. Needless to say, once I realized it was that causing me to have awful acne all over my face, I stopped and waited til the breakouts went away, then very slowly started to incorporate a product that only had 5% Niacinamide. Haven't stopped since, and have been getting great results from that!!

I found anti aging silicon face masks on Amazon similar to Oia masks, what are your thoughts on these items? Are there best products (serums, lotion, cream masks) to use under silicon mask when worn over night?

@@billyjean3118 I know!!! it's absolutely affordable and it works much better than some of the very expensive products that I was buying from Sephora so it's also saved me money and saved my skin it's just all around wonderful product I have been using more and more of vino products since watching Dr Dray I just wish she would do a video on glow recipe products I know she doesn't like anything with fragrance but there's less than 1% of fragrance in them and I'm telling you they're absolutely wonderful I have the most sensitive skin on the planet and these are absolutely wonderful products I have the entire watermelon line their gentle they actually work my skin is left glowing there's absolutely no irritation with them I just wish you would actually purchase some of these products and actually try them instead of just disregarding them all together I even talked to my dermatologist and took in a bottle of it and let them look at it and they said they were actually very pleasantly surprised to see that watermelon was the number one first ingredient and all the other ingredients in them were very beneficial and good ingredients so I really wish you would give them a try instead of knocking them without even trying them first because I think a lot of people was sensitive skin could benefit from those products as a lot of products broke me out I can't use CeraVe products they're very harsh on my skin so I really wish you would just give them a shot

I really love the Stratia Rewind serum because that’s the only niacinamide product that doesn’t break me out in flesh colored bumps hours after application. It has 5% niacinamide, and acetylglucosamine which works synergistically with niacinamide. It also has DMAE, licorice, panthenol etc...

I am always hesitant when it comes to “anti-redness” products. A lot of them contain vasoconstrictors which can cause rebound redness in the long term

I'm confused now. I bought a 20% niacinamide serum because I have oily skin, and it DOES help reduce the oilyness in my skin by about 80%. I'm not using it for any other reason, but she makes it sound as if a moisturizer is enough. I've been using a niacinamide moisturizer for a long time, and it doesn't help as much as the serum. I really want to not using the serum (extra step), but it does help with my oilyness, and I didn't hear her mention that it can help with that either, but it does.

Yeah medical prescription topicals are never serums. The delivery system must be really good as those go through rigorous medical trials.

I am gonna be 2 years clean off of meth and fentanyl. These drugs did a number on my skin along with my picking. I had horrible post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. My skin was horrible and is still a work in progress. I used Retin A and also the Triluma.( ordered generic from India because it was much cheaper) also used cerave pm and my skin is much better. I am 41 years old so my skin also is aging and these products were a godsend. I still have some dark spots so I started doing PCA skin peels and I am seeing even more results. I am taking a break from retin A while I do my peels every 3 weeks in the fall and winter months. In the Spring I will go back to Retin A but, I feel if I can fix my skin anyone can if they are consistent.

Thank you for sharing another informative skin care video. I recently began suffering from redness and skin irritation and I have found that niacinimide is in many of my skin care products from cleanser to moisturizer to foundation serum. I am wondering if it could be the culprit of this skin barrier issue. How do I determine if this is the case?

Hi Dr. Dray! Could you possibly do a video on ingredients we should and shouldn’t look for on the backs of skincare labels? I have noticed that liquorice root / fragrance etc have different terms on some skincare items which make some items hard to distinguish. Thanks!

Thank you! I am on prescription tretinoin and cut back on serums completely. Now i use Time Revolution's essences or I'm from mugwort essence, followed up by La Roche Posay Toleraine Ultra Fluide. I've cut out the serums and I have experienced less flushing and less irritation. The ordinary's niacinamide serum had to be pushed away for the time being :) Love you and your videos, much love from Slovenia

Just realised that I was using a moisturiser with niacinamide, but after that I started using snail mucin 92, which doesn't have it, and then after that I have Beauty of Joseon Red Bean Water Gel to use, and that also doesn't have niacinamide. Might help explain why my face has gotten more red from PIE. I'm going to try adding The Ordinary 10% serum one.
