I am a true believer in niacinamide, Rob 😁 it truly transformed my skin in terms of texture and pores, and helped with brightening. You know I love the Paula's Choice 10% but I agree that most skin types probably don't need that high a percentage. With niacinamide, I think formulation really matters.

Another great video Rob! Strength/dose is everything when it comes to niacinamide. I had the same experience with TO 10% Niacinamide Booster. Was super irritating to my 61 year old dry skin. Having said that I love the fact that niacinamide 5% is in my Curology RetinA that I use at night and also in the sunscreen I use during the day so I’m covered and feel no need for a separate serum. I’ll have to dig out that Purito Centella Recovery Cream that’s been in my to try box. Sounds wonderful! Thanks for the reminder! ❤️

I always got those big red underground blemishes that never come to a head and we’re so painful. Since I’ve added niacinamide I get them very rarely and they go away a lot faster. I use the Naturium 5% gel cream. I know a lot of people have things to say about Naturium but my skin just loves those products for some reason. ♥️

Hey Rob! I have a tip regarding Niacinamide for treating *discoloration* that I’d like to share! It’s most applicable to people who have skin tones that are naturally tanner/browner/darker than yours though _(Fitzpatrick Three&aHalf-ish & deeper)._ The explanation is pretty lengthy though, sorry. **Tip:** If your main problem is PIH then Niacinamide isn’t the star of the show it’s more like a very important crew member. I think anyone fighting dyspigmentation should put their focus on high protection sunscreen, potent bioidentical antioxidants, and an additional tyrosinase inhibitor. Secondary effort should be finding a moisturizer/acne treatment/anti aging treatment etc that incidentally has an adequate amount of Niacinamide as a minor ingredient. _Optional: Add a AHA, BHA, PHA, or Retinoid to speed up results_ **My Experience & Explanation** Like many people with medium & dark skin tones I didn’t see any improvement in dyspigmentation when using Niacinamide in concentrations between 4%-10% in spite of studies proving it’s helpful for fading darkened skin. I’ve since learned that Niacinamide interferes with melanin production/synthesis in a COMPLETELY different way than most other depigmentation agents. The way it works doesn’t allow it to be a highly effective depigmentation agent alone -especially on deeper skin- *but* it enables it to be a GREAT adjunctive treatment. *Apparently there’s FOUR main steps for inhibiting melanogenesis* 1. Avoiding the catalysts for increased melanogenesis in the first place _( _*_Methods:_*_ Preventing Inflammatory Acne, Avoiding injury, Applying 10%-20% L-ascorbic acid serum under sunscreen, Using a sunscreen that protects from UVB, UVA2, UVA1 & HEVL)_ 2. Inhibiting the activity &/or expression &/or activation of *tyrosinase* _(This is what most effective skin lighteners do, just to different extents. _*_Examples_*_ include; hydroquinone, arbutin, hexylresorcinol, 4-butylresorcinol, cysteamine, azelaic acid, kojic acid, tranexamic acid, L-ascorbic acid, particular ascorbic acid derivatives. Unfortunately Niacinamide DOES NOT do this)_ 3.Scavenging of the products of melanin synthesis. _(Apparently Stabilized L-Ascorbic Acid, Glutathione and some other potent antioxidants can successfully do this but not all antioxidants)_ 4.Preventing the transfer of melanin to keratinocytes so not as many can reach the surface of the skin _(Apparently not many ingredients can do this at all with the exception of NIACINAMIDE! In concentrations of 2%-to-5% it can reduce transfer by 35%-to-70%!)_ My routine has multiple ingredients from each of the “steps” _(Very good sunscreen, 20% L-AA brightening serum with other antioxidants added, 10% Azealic Acid anti-acne serum, 4-butyl resorcinol lightening serum with other antioxidants added)_ and when I inadvertently added Niacinamide back into my routine _(the anti acne serum incidentally has 2% & my barrier strengthening moisturizing lotion incidentally has 4%)_ I finally started seeing the stubborn discoloration go away!

I started using Niamiacide about a year ago. My first product was from the "Tree of Life". I find it really soothing because it includes stuff like sunflower oil and aloe. I tried TO 10% and hated it. It pills like crazy on my skin. I do still have it in the fridge and I use it sometimes when I microneedle. Like others, I no longer look for it in a standalone product or really at all. It seems to be in everything. The Niamiacide products I'll continue to use because I love the overall formula: good molecules niamiacide toner, PTR's Discoloration Serum, and Faded by Topicals.

Hi! I discovered your channel yesterday and I've been binging on your videos ever since 😃. I just turned 50 and I'm dealing with what seems to be hormonal acne due to perimenopause. I recently ordered some Face Theory products because I want to incorporate the Supergel, redness reducing toner and azaleas acid into my routine. So, while waiting for my order to arrive i was looking for what to use (as I've cold turkey discontinued what I was using before) and I found an unopened bottle of the Good Molecules Niacinamide that I ordered some time ago. I used it after cleansing and this morning, OMG!!! my face was so smooth. The inflammation had called down in a way that I have never experienced before! Have you ever used that product? Niacinamide is the 2nd ingredient, which means it must be of a relatively high concentration. I'm eager to know your thoughts on this product. Thanks 😊

Thanks Rob!! Niacinamide has been like peptides for me, I use bc it’s good, but don’t really see any difference short term. I obtain it from a variety of my products (which I learned from you 🙂🙂). I’ll continue to. Have a great weekend!!

I have been using niacinamide for over a year now (oily, acne-prone skin and sometimes dehydrated skin here), the difference that I have seen that I can attribute to niacinamide is that my skin was less oily (reduced sebum production). However, concentration is key, my skin hates 10% niacinamide, it irritates my skin a lot. As a result i have removed TO niacinamide+zinc from my routine and layering niacinamide products. I really love the Putrio Centella Unscented Serum as well and the Good molecules Birgtening toner (3% niacinamide + 2% arbutin).

I used niacinimide for 2 straight years. I did see results in terms of brightening and softening of my skin. Now it took A LONG TIME for those results to show up but they did right before I stopped using it as a stand-alone serum. I used Absolute 15% Niacinimide and the 10% Niacinimide from The Ordinary. Both delivered results. However I no longer use this as a stand alone. My skin didn’t miss the serum. It’s in so many of my moisturizers it really is redundant. I like how Niacinimide blurs (matify) the skin.

I’ve noticed that even budget- and dollar store brands are putting niacinamide in their sheet masks, just as prevalent as sodium hyaluronate/hyaluronic acid and allantoin, and I am quite happy with their products. They cost around what’s equivalent to a quid or two and it’s absolutely worth it since they leave the skin feeling fresh and smooth, they do what they claim and what you’ve would expect (and sometimes they even surprise you!). When it comes to serums, I love The Inkey List niacinamide. It got a few other nice ingredients in there that I think do me good. The Ordinary’s niacinamide + zink broke me out. Now I have learned how to use it when I do certain masks and facials or just leave it on for a limited period of time - often with another active (often a calming active when my skin is irritated, it likes the niacinamide + zink to calm it down). I searched for Glow Recipe watermelon niacinamide serum like an obsessed for some time. I live in Sweden so only chance to get it here is by mail order and that makes it so super expensive so I wonder if it was even worth the hype... 🤔 🤔 🤔 What if I pay like 80 quid, wait a month for it and when it finally is on my face it totally breaks me out? And it’s a super tiny little bottle. Like half a fluid ounce or something. So, nah... If I can’t get it on Sephora and I can’t get it through Beauty Bay it’s not worth it 🤷♀️ why bother? It’s the same with the cleansing balm from And Then I Met You. It costs a fortune and I haven’t even smelled it - could’ve smelled like bad butter - but it was such a nice tub and I was sure that I wanted it! 🤦♀️🤦♀️ Back to niacinamide: Beauty Bay have this niacinamide and copper peptide serum that’s a bargain! And I will try it! I am, as a matter of fact, ordering it tomorrow 😉 What I’ve come to understand about niacinamide is that a little is sometimes better than much. Many people who have either tried the Paula’s Choice 20%, The Ordinary’s Niacinamide and zink or gone absolutely ballistic with their 100% powder and played rogue chemist at home have had purge breakouts.

TO Niacinamide was really effective when my teenage son had a horrible flare up of inflammatory acne. It reduced the inflammation in just a few days. We have obviously had to add in other actives as we’ve gone along. I tried it though on my combo/dry rosacea skin and it was way too drying. I use AlphaH vitamin B with copper peptide and it was more hydrating. It’s at a lower concentration also. I actually take oral Nicotinamide, not something generally recommended but I have had a non-melanoma skin cancer removed recently and a study in Australia showed a 20-30% reduction in new skin cancers with oral Nicotinamide. Personally, I think Niacinamide works away in the background, may be more effective if there’s a deficiency and you won’t necessarily see the effects. But it has been pretty widely studied and it seems like a good addition but I don’t know if you’ll see definitive results.

Hey Rob, niacinamide is a firm pass for me. I found it too dry for my skin. I haven't used a focused niacinamide product for almost a year now and I really do not miss it in my routine. I'm also thinking of skipping TO blah blah palmitate in vitamin F. Perhaps I'm searching for another vitamin C derivative? I admit to eating plenty of food items containing vitamin C so I'm wondering if applying more to the face is really necessary. Thoughts? OMG almost 47 K. This is happening because you are wonderful, honest and informative. Love you and sending you loads of love ~ Paula

The first skincare product I ever used was the niacinamide plus zinc from TO and I added it in the same routine with the foaming cleanser and moisturizer from cerave. Wasn't using any sunscreen at that time (i added it later when i started the glicolic and aha bha peel) and honestly for 2 months of using it i noticed a huge difference on my face during the day when it used to get very oily, it cut down the oilyness by 70% at least. I was so happy that i didn't have to touch up my makeup during the day it honestly was the product that started my sikncare journey for sure

So glad to hear someone say this, I agree I used numerous Niacinamide products like serums and toners and noticed NOTHING smh 🤦♀️ I was so disappointed and also thought I was doing something wrong because everyone Raves about the results and I have tried and tried but this ingredient just does absolutely Nothing for my dry, rosacea skin
@sluttymctits44963 жыл бұрын
Same. Everyone seems to love it, and it's in EVERYTHING, but I used a 10% serum and saw absolutely no difference at all. Of course, maybe it was just that the one product didn't work for me. But since every product seems to have niacinimide in it, I guess it's possible that it does have some positive benefits but I just overlook it and chalk it up to the other active ingredients. 🤷♀️ All I know is that I have no desire to incorporate a separate niacinimide serum into my routine. I've finally gotten to a point where things are going pretty well, and I'm not about to risk screwing things up (except Rob's line, I'll definitely be trying that 😂).

I think the great thing about The Ordinary is that you get to choose what you want in your skincare. I have been using The Ordinary Niacinamide for over a year and I literally add 2 drops with 3 drops of Hylamide SubQ and use in the morning. I feel it has helped control my oily skin and has improved my skin texture. I believe less in more when using these types of serums. I only see it in one of my moisturisers that I don’t use that often. I am so tempted by that Purito serum though… it might have to be an additional peptide boost at night because I don’t want to give up SubQ!!

Rob darling, I hear you, I do. But I made my first niacinamide foray in Feb this year with TO's 10% +zinc & went 3 months pimple-free for the first time in my adult life. Then I stupidly tried FT's N20 & undid all my good work, so ditched that. Now on PC's 10% booster & have G&G's B Bomb on order... In my defence I only use it in a targeted way & PM only, as I get a low niacinamide fix in my AM moisturisers (courtesy of FT). I just think 10% niacinamide is my sweet spot & I'm not ready to part with it yet xxx

My skin loves niacinamide. I stopped using it for a month or so (last year), and my skin really missed it. It does make my pores less visible and helped with texture. But, the one from TO was too drying because of the zinc, so the one from Good Molecules(includes glycerin as the 5th ingredient and tocopherol-vitamin E) works beautifully. None of my other products have niacinamide in them, so I know I'm OK! PS My skin is already showing dehydration issues from my stopping my HA serum. I mix it with amino acids and apply to a wet face after cleansing. I follow this with the SubQ mist and I have "sandwiched" the HA between the nourishing serums! My skin is so plump and glowy!

Hi Rob I tried the niacinamide serums etc and of those the Inkey list was my favourite - the ordinary one was terrible on me fyi. Niacinamide isn't in as many products targeted at very dry skin, so it would be easy to exclude it if needed. I'm currently using the cosrx snail and niacinamide dual chamber essence (5% niacinamide), but I'll just buy the normal snail essence next time as I saw no difference. I can't say I've ever seen huge improvement in my own skin with niacinamide - i get a lot more redness relief with centella and azelaic acid tbh. i don't search it out, but i don't avoid it either. I haven't tried the high strength formulations - more than 10%, but i see no need to for my skin. Best wishes.

🤣🤣...like hyaluronic acid....niacinamide is also in almost every product....centella asiatica will probably follow this pattern 🤔....I just don't think much about niacinamide anymore..using k beauty products should give me in the long run that 5% needed , or recommended....lastly, I haven't seen any noticeable difference on my skin... BUT again ...it's everywhere!!! Thanks Rob

yeah niacinimide is just eh. I have oily skin but after like 2 hours of putting it on my skin returns to its greasy state so yeah really not great for controling oil control.

I'm curious, and I mean no offense when I ask this, but what are your credentials in skin care? What is your education background and do you have any current certifications in this area?

You have to realize when you say "alot of people say they are experiencing great results by using it" they are just mostly people trying to justify there purchase and are in denial It happens with alot of products in comment sections.

Except it’s not just anecdotal evidence, there’s been a lot of studies showing niacinamide is effective. So if people say it’s effective for them, there’s scientific evidence to back up those claims.
