Your Ol' Man! It must be such a proud moment for you to call Phil Collins, your dad, "Your Ol' Man". Bask in his glory because he is the best. He's had a few Knocks but is stronger for it. Check-out his fan base, the love they have for Mr Phil Collins. Nic, you've turned out good, a young gentleman. Like father, like son! Vive le Phil Collins!

Bonham's parts were bass drum driven. Phil's parts were driven by top-end, ride cymbal, snare, hihat. I cannot get over Phil's ride cymbal playing! : )
@robertlamb29924 жыл бұрын
Agreed, but PC's hi-hat work still knocks me out, esp on Seconds Out. For years I thought the hi-hat was overdubbed on the drum duet.

Nic is a terrific drummer. I like the way he adds a youthful punch to his dad's songs when playing in concert. Very cool he listed his pops as top 5. I put Phil at number one on my all time favorite list.
@cinemashow35 жыл бұрын
Your dad is the main reason why I love drums. What I love about his drumming is that, as he said it, "drums are an integral part of the composition". So, it's like the lead guitar or the keyboard that at some point become the main sound in the song. And the drum duets with Chester are like songs, they are structured, medolic. Even though I do not have a drum set at home, I put the leather dinning room chairs around me and go crazy with "home by the sea" and "domino". I was able to see you in Lima Perú and I loved your drumming. As Mike says it: "You get it".

For any people new to Phil Collins, who've perhaps only heard his ballads and 'radio friendly' material and may be wondering why so many drummers and magazine polls rate him so highly, I urge you to seek out any of his work with the jazz-rock outfit Brand X. There's lots on vinyl, but it's pretty rare to find anything on tape. In the late 1970s Phil was dancing with his kit, playing sparkling, breathtaking parts, not because he wanted to sell loads of records, but because he was madly, passionately in love with the instrument. That's why Genesis wanted a session man of Chester Thompson's calibre to sit in when the band was on the road and Phil was needed at the front of the stage. Chester's a top man. He played with Frank Zappa. Nuff said! So if you're wondering why so many people rate Phil's playing, it's because of what he did back then. He inspired a whole generation of players. Love ya, Phil! :-)

I love me some Phil Collins back in the day i use to brag about and try to educate people about the phenomenal genius of a musical man called Phil Collins ! do you all remember the live aid concert that they pulled off in the 90s , all the rock bands play for charity , on one of them they had Led Zeppelin play one year ! of course there’s no John Bonham so guess who played in his own band / genesis and then stepped over to the other stage and filled in a played John bonham’s part when Led Zeppelin played ? my favorite two bands here ! and Phil was playing in my favorite drummers seat as Phil is my favorite as well, that blew me away when phill Collins stepped out there, and rocked the drums in amazing rhythm as John Bonham would do, Phil Collins is the most talented musician I’ve ever seen, he can do everything well🙏
