Masterpieces of U.S. diesel engineering ! Diesel sounds are music. Keep the diesels alife !

I’ve owned and operated many of these engines. They were all reliable and economical I hate to see some of the videos of people destroying them.
@robertsmith99672 жыл бұрын
Yup. Just started and then up to max revs. Engines need to be thoroughly warmed before getting the guts booted out them
@rudycarlson82452 жыл бұрын
@@robertsmith9967 exactly! Even if you are just moving it a couple of feet it needs to be warmed up first! Especially when it’s cold out! Diesels in general do not like the cold! So when it’s cold out Gotta give them a little extra time warming up first before you put them on the load

Why do so many people full throttle a stone cold engine? One of the first things I learned as a kid from my old man give that engine a few minutes get the oil flowing and get a little heat in it before your throttle it.
@hahaha90762 жыл бұрын
Yeah I had a guy come to buy an old fergy 65 the other day. It's a 3.3lt perkins diesel. He tried to start it with the kill on, then realised, turned it off and it fired immediately. Then he revved it to full throttle immediately. Then says, "blows a bit of smoke". I said, " no shyt, you would too cold and flooded."

I remember riding the GM fishbowl buses that had these magnificent Detroit Diesel engines in them. The engine was located in the back of the bus and I loved sitting in a seat in the back of the bus. I enjoyed the sounds of the engine while getting the vibration from those classic diesels.

Hell yes
@AlanRoehrich96512 жыл бұрын
I prefer them. An 8V92TA, DDEC IV, marine style, with twin turbochargers. Set with 100-105-110 injectors, around 650-675 HP. A 12-71TA isn't bad, but the earlier engines didn't have the strength in the lower end. And the 71 series was rarely, if ever, built to the standard that the later Silver 92 series was.
@cidertom51402 жыл бұрын
@@AlanRoehrich9651 ah ok I didn’t know that about the reliability issues in the bottom end of the engine. Who doesn’t love the noise the wrap the cold starts and smoke. What ever the model horse power configuration they all sound awesome. Check out loud snowblower for Detroit music

When you work around 4 our five running around all day long for years they get old. And when the muffler falls off you put it back on right away. Nothing can take abuse like one.

What do diesel engines REALLY like most? Being revved to high RPM repeatedly, especially while cold. That's really good for them! You know a guy knows his stuff when he's doing that! Especially if you put him in a hard hat!

I learned about these engines from my time in the US Army...many of the early tanks not to mention some trucks used these engines...I copped a 4-53 roots blower hoping to use it on a 231 Chevy v6...

All the engines in this video seem like they started quickly and easily. It's as if they were warmed up, just before the 'shoot'. They all ran smooth, no misfires, no smoke. Detroit Diesel engines are considered 'atmospheric', so they don't need to wait for a turbo to spool up, before there's enough air to burn all the fuel. It's why Detroit Diesels have such immediate throttle response, making then an ideal choice for back-up generators. They respond almost immediately to changes in electrical load.

I like to see them putting water in them, however, you remove the thermostats and put the water in the bottom so it fills the block and heads. THEN especially on 92 series completely drain or add a little antifreeze for storage or cylinder O rings lands pitted. I have had cylinders blue in seconds dry running. Very dangerous. No Detroit 2 cycle should ever run away. Rack is accessible and they have a factory emergency air shutoff. Best diesels ever victims of trumped up EPA.

Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!!

Europe will collapse soon. California is bankrupt. The EV fad is fading fast already, despite corrupt government agendas.
