I have watched and followed Bunma since the first day until today. I felt that she had been starving for a very long time. So much so that today I think that no matter how much the staff feeds her, the memory of her hunger remains in her mind, and there are still many elephants out there who are still hungry. The effects of covid that changed the world forever.

Why so many dogs around?
@cacatr44953 жыл бұрын
@@anitathompson5688 Due to the vile dog-meat trade in Thailand, Lek/ENP has rescued hundreds of dogs from a tortured-death, from being eaten by people. The great majority of them live in the Dog-section of ENP, but a number of longtime proven-reliable dogs are allowed the run of the park, and many calves have played with them over the years.

Because Bunma is only 16, her head/face and rib cage are still growing. They don't reach developmental maturity until age 20. Through the next few years, her head will grow, and I expect her rib cage to do the same. As her girth increases, her legs won't look quite so long, and she will begin to resemble the other mature ellies, especially in combination with healthy weight gain.

Right now with tourism so low, many of the traditional abusive elephant shows and camps are not doing well. Many elephants are suffering from their owners' misfortune, but at least some of the owners are now more willing to consider a different method, and Lek is there to show them how. Others have to sell their elephants for a low price that would not allow them to buy a replacement.

Asian elephants seem less aggressive than African elephants. Is this true?
@cacatr44953 жыл бұрын
Asian elephants are more *docile than African elephants, true. What is deemed 'play' to African elephants is considered 'aggressive' by Asian elephants. African elephants are more intense, have stronger opinions, though both are very intelligent.
@TheDollyce3 жыл бұрын
@@cacatr4495 Thank you! 👍
@cacatr44953 жыл бұрын
@@TheDollyce African elephants are also larger, heavier. We shouldn't think of elephants as being "aggressive," as they are respectful if they are respected. With elephants, one gets what one sows. If one sows respect, they reap respect; if they sow aggression, they reap the same. Elephants are very, very intelligent, they don't just attack for no reason. When bulls go into Musth, greater distance and even greater respect is needful. Elephants have their own minds; they must be respected.
@TheDollyce3 жыл бұрын
@@cacatr4495 I think I should have used the word "aggressive" in relation to OTHER ANIMALS, not people. I recently watched a 20 minute video that showed African elephants being aggressive towards other animals such as Hippos, leopards, lions and hyenas. I think they were upset with the predators hanging around eyeballing the elephants babies and toddlers. I saw several scenarios of an African elephant overturning some tourist vehicles, and a car. IMO, the tourists have no business there in the first place. They're disturbing the place. I saw an African elephant pushing a tree over with a leopard in it! And a African elephant running his trunk through a female lion. All understandable. But I'm telling you, they can RUN fast when they're chasing another animal away! I've never seen such focus. And I think it's all related to protecting their young. Don't get on the bad side of an African elephant. She'll get you, and you'll probably deserve it.
