Hello cyclists!
Bike upgrades. DIY with ASRM
Turn on the subtitles, sit back and let us begin.
In this video tutorial I will show you how to replace a Shimano Hollowtech II bottom bracket and cranks. How to remove bicycle cranks.
Be sure to lubricate the removal tool, all threaded connections must be lubricated. Your equipment will last longer and the disassembly of the assembly will be easier and faster.
Repeat after us and you will be able to replace cranks on a bike without difficulty. Now let's compare the difference in weight between old and new bike cranks. The difference is insignificant, but it lies in the weight.
How to remove a bicycle bottom bracket. The old bottom bracket under the square is heavier. Therefore, the whole rod system is lighter when using Hollowtech II. In the workshop I use long levers, large tubes so you can unwind each part. Come to our playlist, you will find many videos on the operation of the transmission. The old bottom bracket was dirty. All the dirt that flies into the frame falls on the bottom bracket. Then everything creaks and squeaks. New bottom bracket. Shimano Hollowtech II bottom bracket sm-bb52 out of the box. The manufacturer puts a lot of grease in the bottom bracket. This grease can be used to lubricate threaded connections.
Spacers, a very important detail. I'll show you clearly how, without instructions, individually for your carriage knot, you can pick up RINGS. First, we will weigh our new Hollowtech II bottom bracket. The old bottom bracket for the square and the new bottom bracket, as you can see, the difference is significant. Our bottom bracket is 68 - 73 mm. The frame is 73 mm wide at the bottom bracket shell. Spacers allow you to adjust the width of the bottom bracket. Pay attention to the spacer selection. Depending on the trimming, dobby glasses can be completely different.
This is the universal way to choose the right spacers. Replace the bottom bracket. Lubricate threaded connections well. The lubricant will repel water and your sled will live much longer. Subscribe to the channel and like) Bicycle cranks replacement. If you do not lubricate the splines, and they need to be lubricated, your cranks will creak and make an unpleasant creaking noise.
The left crank has a special pin. It must be lifted. It is necessary to tighten it so that the rod does not dangle and does not have to be pulled. The force should be moderate. Left connecting rod, it is important to tighten correctly with a force of 12 or 14 Newton per meter.
The rest of the knots in this video we tighten by hand, according to my experience, sensations. But this knot must be tightened according to the rules cross over the cross tighten the bolts in turn. All! Our bikes are ready.

I used white litum on BB that is coated lightly is there a high chance the bottom will sieze up? if I decide dissamble in the near future I had the bike almost one year and I never let the bike get wet at all and never wash the bike either. 5:30 You should compare the weight with the new axle. The comparision you did here demonstrated old bearing + axle vs new bearing only (without axle). The axle is the heaviest part of the old bearing, too, so it's not a surprise that new part without the axle is much lighter.
@dirkp.6181

After all one could add up the belonging components and compare, but yes it would be easier and more expressive to weight all "old" components at once as well as the replacement parts together. - Then only the difference of the teeth count(s) could have an impact on the comparison.

Funny thing, I always go the other way. Square taper lasts longer (in some cases never changed) for me at least and with less annoying noises. Worth noting that I'm >100kg with a recorded peak watts over 1000. But then again I'll only ever fit Shimano.

Still not convinced if I should upgrade to a better squared spindle bracket or get a thru-spindle / hollowtech like this one. One thing I've read is that the fact the left crankarm is screwed in makes them more vulnerable to potential snaps if enough pedalling force is applied, whereas with the square spindle one this can never happen, one less thing to go wrong. The bearings positioned on the outside can also be problematic as they're more exposed to the elements. What I find crazy is the fact they created a proprietary shape for the left crankarm nut instead of a common hex, just to sell you yet another tool. 10:30 Great video tho, very ASMR!

To słabo zabezpieczony i uszczelniony suport.

I'd call them "upgrades". Square-taper BBs and cranks arms are proven to last decades. I just got 21 years out of a UN-52. Put in a UN-300 this spring, which should last at least ten years.

Why do you apply grease on the threads? Shouldn't you use a threadlocker instead?

If you fix the threads instead of lubricating them, the lower bracket will "grow" to the frame and unscrew along with the threads in the future

What about chainline?
@torrrock1788

Hey, could you help me with this question?🤔🤔🤔 I want to assemble my bike in a mountain model (all terrain) but I want to do it this way because I don't like the ones they sell and I want to know if you can help me. the change is this in the second 40, i saw you install a three-in-one platter. which the bicycles of these times sell with a single and small chainring. What carbon fiber bicycle frame can accept a three-speed chainring, that is, three chainrings in one but accepting the connection of a 12-speed sprocket. in short words that the bicycle remains in 3x12 speeds. If you do not understand my request, tell me to explain in another way. I stay tuned to your comments

@@torrrock1788 forget about 3x systems, they won't give you anything but the extra weight. The range of your transmission can't be infinite because the chain has fixed length and rear deraileurs have maximum capacity (google "rear deraileur capacity") of about 40 teeth. That means, if you have a 11-42 cassette, the difference at cranks can not exceed 10 teeth, no matter how many stars you have there. And 11-52 cassette can only be used in 1x systems. You could, theoretically, find 11-28 12-speed cassette to build a 3x12 transmission but I doubt that THIS is what you really want.

@@user-eq3mj7ob2f Thanks for reply. What happens that today's (mountain) bikes the transmission is low. when you want to gain speed on your route, the 28 or 30 tooth chainring is not enough to give more speed. but the 50 tooth chainrings give you more speed on the road, it is something that you see the SCOTT BICYCLE models. The problem that I want to use a mountain bike but with the 12x3 speed transmission. is it understood...?

@Иван Селиванов your advice is only true if you want to cross-chain. Usually you don't want to but you might happen to crosschain so this might be a problem. If you avoid it it should be ok. I wouldn't buy new frame for this though. If you don't like new bikes buy an old bike and upgrade it to your liking.

@@interceptor7905 there’s a really nice paper on this subject in lermagazine with a chart of inseam to suggested crank length, with a projected knee angle at maximum flexion. The author is someone who interacted with a number of cyclists with knee pain while riding and he developed the chart and concluded a knee angle at max flexion of 69 degrees solved the issue except in riders with permanent knee injury. Won’t let me post the link here for some reason. Lermagazine. Author is Rick & Amy Schultz-master bike fitter and kinesiologist respectively.

Probably not the crank length, but the width (Q-factor) is the issue. At least to me that was, but solved with crank extenders.
