It needs a spring/flex hinge at the bottom to accommodate thicker items without flaring at the top. The knife guides at the top should also be reshaped (inverted half cone) to funnel your knife to the center so you're not sawing against the top of the metal guides. Also, there would need to be some reason for this item to exist to make those changes worthwhile.

As someone who had gastric bypass surgery, I always buy thin-sliced bread, but they don’t carry it in my local supermarket (I moved in August). I can’t eat 2 slices of even the thin-sliced bread, but 1 slice of regular bread is good (and cheaper than specialty breads). Just toast, cut, then flip so the untoasted sides are outside & put in a single slot and retoast. Edited to add: the price kills it, though.

They say the original Melba Toast was made because a certain Operatic Diva used to eat at this one restaurant, and always complained that her toast was too thick. The chef kept cutting the bread thinner and thinner, but she was never satisfied. One day, he cut her toast, toasted it, and then sliced the toasted bread in half, serving it to her in a gesture of anger at her absurd demand, but in fact, she loved it that way, and they eventually put that on the menu, super thin "Melba's toast." What we buy in the stores today is nothing like that, however. It's just dense, thin circles of bready cracker.

toast it in a pan with butter and garlic, then add some flakey salt, delicious. Ofc instead of buying this overpriced stuff you could just buy unsliced bread (or bake it yourself) and slice it thin in the first place. its much easier to just slice a thin piece off a whole loaf than to try to slice a already quite thin slice in two. but if preslised bread is all you have just sandwich a slice between two regular plates with roughly the right edge height and slice knife between them, works well for slicing lots of small stuff like berries or cherry tomatoes in half too...

Holy moly! I was intrigued about 2/3 through the video and I had thought you said about $7 at the beginning of the video... I was floored when I saw it was $70!!! It's essentially two pieces of metal on a hinge with some indentations. That is in no way worth $70!!! Knock it down to about $10 or $15 and I'd consider it. As it stands, there is no way I would pay that price.

Im 30 and cant remember a single time I had to cut a piece of bread in half, or any other food item that I already cut for that matter lol. Theres already a gadget for it tho, its called a knife.

I like that you didn't get hung up on the price. Price is most definitely a factor when comparing products, but what is or isn't expensive also depends on the person.

Okay although I can see this having some use, but I'd use only my cheapest knives for this, as this is bound to be brutal on any kind of blade. Anyway: 70 bucks?! I could see myself spending 25-30 for this, tops. 🤔

Cut the thick chicken in halves. Use the slicer to 1/4 then. Feed your gusts so stingily they'll never come back. Sounds perfect.

Reminds me a joke I heard in some movie or old-time radio show. When complaining about the cheapness of the owner of the deli they were in, one said, "This bread is so thin it only has one side!"

I generally don't want to slice bread that has already been sliced. When it comes to meats like that chicken, I don't have a problem using my method where I lay it flat, one hand open over the top and the other hand operating the knife from one side to the other. Generally though, if I want this slices of things I just use my electric "deli" slicer.

$70 is a bit steep, but thus is great for diabetics, people who watching their carbs and people suffer with a lot of inflammation. The chicken breast got me, too. Still expensive

I would totally buy one if it wasn't 70. That is a bit much for as little as I would use it. Generally it is better to avoid bread as a diabetic, but I am only human and splurge on some bread once in awhile.

It's like a magic trick. When you first open it there appears to be an ordinary slice of toast. But then, on further inspection, it is magically cut in half. Cool :-)

Here's an idea. Place the slice of bread on a surface, with the horizontal side facing you. Take your knife of choice and cut the bread in half. Flip the now-cut slice over, onto the opposite slice of bread. There. Done.

(Comment made before watching the video) This could be useful (if a bit fiddly) as I’ve noticed and my mum has been complaining that medium sliced bread has gotten thicker, personally I don’t mind as if it’s fresh I can eat sliced bread on its own but my mum hates thick sliced bread (she is only tiny so I can see why). I have to say I do the toasted bread all the time by hand it’s how you make melber toast at home so 70 quid is way too much.

When I was a kid, my grandmother was so cheap whenever she made us a pb&j sandwich she would barely put a tsp of each on the bread. I truly believe if this was on the market back then she would have been cheap with the bread too. So, great product for all the penny pinchers out there.

If there was a XL version that was 50% larger in width and height it would be great for thinly slicing meat. Also, maybe a guide meant to clip to the base on the far side from where you are cutting to help center the knife making large cuts easier. Not something I'd use for bread though TBH.

What's the point? I need to cut the bagel BEFORE it is toasted! My goal is to cut it to fit in the toaster to begin with. I could see it for cutting chicken for a sandwich, but, unless I decided to eat a lot more chicken sandwiches then I do now, $70 seems way too expensive !

This would be a benefit for me by slicing a slice of bread and save calories also great job on the chicken breast. Tho 70 dollars is way too much. It'll eventually come down in price but not sure how much I would pay🤔. I find this product interesting.
