Intro was fire! Nice video. The two burrs is a nice concept but agree that the practicality of it day to day makes no sense. My wife does a latte in the morning and I do a pour-over, and then an espresso in the afternoon. With one grinder, thats a lot of swapping.

a lot of swapping and dialing in!

I am asking because I am genuinely curious. What grinder do you guys have then? I have just purchased the Niche Zero after years of research and contemplation cuz primarily, I'm going to do Moka pot or espresso for myself and perhaps one other person on the regular, but when I have a group around I use a drip-o-lator (big, non-electric powered, drip coffee maker) and if I want to try something different I could do a pour-over. I really didn't see anything on the market that directly competed in the primarily single-dose format, with remotely the same versatility, so I went for the Niche Zero just a month ago. I've now got friends asking for recommendations and I hate to push people who aren't really going to get the ideal use out of it toward this grinder because it is very expensive for most people I know (no one else has an espresso machine... some are currently using kiureg or at the fanciest, chemex and a second hand little capresso)

Wonderful share. Your detail and video capture was easy to understand. Thank you! Might I ask a side question as a beginner. When you make an espresso, what are your typical ratios for the IN (grinds in grams in the tamped puck) and the OUT (liquid espresso in grams in the cup)?

I know static is a case by case thing depending on the users environment but i have had my Niche Zero for a couple of years now and never needed to RDT and get no static problem with it at all regardless of the time of year and humidity. A couple of pumps on the bellows is all i have ever needed to do. Thanks for your vid on the Duo.
@itsxris Жыл бұрын
I am curious if it is a case of concial vs flat burrs as well, I too have rarely needed RDT on the Zero but it benefits more on the Duo

A few weeks ago I ordered one of these, paid about $800 USD to Niche, then had to pay an additional $300 USD for US duty fees imposed by customs. Additionally, it was held up at DHL's Los Angeles facility for an extra review by the US FDA (wtf?) for who knows what reason, adding another week's delay to its delivery. Still waiting for delivery, so we'll see...
@charleselbert5610 Жыл бұрын
Me too I had to pay 136 usd that I was unaware of. Flinched still has my grinder held up at customs. Not sure if I want to pay the money to customs or have them return it and buy a better grinder? What would you do

I've been vacillating between this and the DF64 V2. I really like the Niche, but between currency conversion and US duty fees, is it really worth more than double the cost of the DF64?

I watched through your other videos after watching this, and you easily make the best gear videos I’ve seen! I def subscribed. I’ve been trying to decide between the Zero and Duo. As far as dialing in goes, is the Duo as forgiving as the Zero? I have the Mignon Specialita right now, and you’re either on or you’re not. There isn’t a lot of wiggle room, and I’m looking for an easier dial.

Not to be negative, but this Duo is just too big and bulky. Plus, the clear plastic lid just looks extremely cheap, almost cheesy. I can't see any scenario where I'd put that unit on my countertop.
@thamtham4924 Жыл бұрын
Problem with Duo is 1. They come with traditional burrs with no other options. 2. They don’t sell burr carrier separately. 3. If user want to swap burrs with ssp or any new burrs later, it will cost 350$ more. And Mazzer left unused in the cabinet. They should have more burr options or sell carrier separately right now, not later. They seem to forget that the user who actually made them famous want all I said above. Market has changed but Niche owner mindset is still the same.
@itsxris Жыл бұрын
I disagree that most people will want to swap burrs, I think that's a very small percentage of the market in an already niche (pun intended) audience. Generally I've found people want to buy a grinder and its good without needing to buy more burrs on top of it.
@thamtham4924 Жыл бұрын
If both of you said so, Duo fail miserably making this swap system. I am talking about first adopter who is willing to pay for innovation that will dictate the follower. If you think most people don’t care about burr swap, this Duo concept is a failure and that is why they eventually sell single burrs.
@itsxris Жыл бұрын
its a good thing they changed it early on with options for a single burr then!
@thamtham4924 Жыл бұрын
The small number of early adopter always make the hype and other will buy Niche even they might not swap burr. That is what I mean. Just like other business. Lot of Duo review from lot of influencer said, Duo is good but late and pricy and the design is outdated. Only the swap system is something new and they won’t sell carrier to maximize the idea. I am pretty sure, there will be more grinder with 83 mm in the near future and it might have swapping concept too.
@thamtham4924 Жыл бұрын
@@cuprajake1 like Niche and I had one. I even reach out to James asking him whether he will sell burr carrier separately, his reply is simply “no plan”. Well I have DF83with HU burr and if Niche will sell carrier separately, I will buy this Duo espresso burr then bought ssp MP to use in the separate carrier. Since Niche won’t sell it yet, I will wait until they do. Spending another 150$ to get another Mazzer burr(with carrier) just to swap it out is not in my plan. All I (and many other) am asking is to have choices. I can understand if they have a great deal with Mazzer and they cannot sell other burrs. Simply say no plan is rather disappointing.

Man I've been shopping Grinders for 4 years and you must be comparing to hard-core commercial, well over double the price stuff. This is one of the most well-made, solid grinders that I came across. The lid feeling like it's not super tight was the only thing that was kind of odd to me because everything else is so firm and solid and smooth and just feels so premium compared to everything else I was looking at in the sub $1,000 category. Honestly the build quality on mine is Flawless and I was literally looking for a problem on it. I will admit this is probably the fourth most expensive single purchase I've made in my 38 years on this planet. My home, my car, my bike, now my coffee grinder. My week-long trip to Egypt including round-trip airfare that I bought last minute to tag along with my best friend Last Summer comes in between the bike and the coffee grinder. I know how much I spent and I made a lot of efforts to not have to worry about having any regrets. I say all this because I am genuinely curious what makes you feel like it felt so cheap? I keep seeing this comment occasionally and people will say the wood looked really cheap on the first release, which I have no opinion on because I didn't see that release (but James Hoffman didn't mention it in his review so I kind of roll my eyes when people talk about that because that man is very picky about Aesthetics and touch points and things being "pleasing"), or they say the lid feels floppy and plasticky. . But most people also acknowledge the plastic doesn't feel cheap in and of itself. I even took a really good look at the hinge and that looks like a solid piece of engineering. I bought this grinder as a long-term investment, hoping it's going to outlast a couple espresso machines since I didn't go for anything high-end and repairable this time (Niche Zero x Bambino Plus for the ultimate workflow/quality output balance with tiny footprint). Also, the Bambino+ is the next single most expensive purchase outside of replacing all the gas lines in my house 😅

P.S. I feel sheepish for the investment when looking at it 🤑 but then proud when using it. I love it is so simple, easy, nearly waste free and cleaning it is as near to effortless as any Appliance I own
@jacobpetersen5662 Жыл бұрын
I think it feels very high quality and looks fantastic. I'm also not a fan of grinders that look like they're meant for sterilizing dental tools.
