Niche "Zero" vs. KafaTek MC5 Conical Grinder with Barista Sal

I paid $2450 for my MC5, so it’s more like 4X price of a Niche. But I think the question “is it 4X better” is the wrong one. Once you get into the realm of high quality grinders the additional improvements in cup to be gained are going to be increasingly small. It’s like asking is a BMW 3x better than a Kia? What do you mean by better? That’s hard to quantify, both cars will get you where you’re going. Regarding the Niche and Kafatek specifically, the 4X better question can be partially answered with build quality and durability. Kafatek has a reputation of making extremely well made and durable products which will very likely long outlast a Niche. As for which coffee is tastier, that’s so subjective a question as to be meaningless. They produce coffees that will taste different, “better” is a judgement that depends on what qualities matter most to the individual.

I just received my MC5, and have been comparing it to my Niche. Generally speaking, I've noticed slightly more clarity with the MC5, but especially more sweetness. The fines created by the Niche add a tinge of bitterness which isn't present on the MC5. The Niche is a very good grinder, but the MC5 is more refined, and it should last much longer.

I think the Niche is more like 330 rpm. But still not slow enough for much clarity from a conical.

I have no idea why not to have a hopper,,, I want it silent as possible and stiring the coffee exposing it to air,, is a a no no. Spending great effort on creating a picture,,, why? However Im spending much effort In many things with my latte. The latest is Matrix screen to avoid coffee back in my E61
