Just to clarify as some commenters seem a little confused, we paid off the mortgage a decade before selling and moving to Norfolk... the move was basically just swapping one house for another of the same value...because we wanted to...

Hello Nic and Andrea. I have followed you a few years. During my divorce and after, your content and esp THE LIVES gave me a human connection that I will forever be grateful for. I have and had many friends /family but the connection you both gave me to a similar mindset group and display of warmth, kindness , bravery and honesty was invaluable to me. The more contentment and joy you both experience , the happier I will be. Forever thankful. With love. Angela xxx

To be fair to any other resellers feeling inferior & wondering why their eBay stores aren't buying them a £500,000 house... The significant rise in the Hitchin property market, and benefitting from the last of the high st success is what has bought the house. Reselling contributed significantly, but it'd be very tough to buy a detached house purely off buying bits at car boots and selling on eBay.
@NicHills
@NicHills Жыл бұрын
You completely miss the point - the mortgage (the loan taken out to buy the house) was paid off within 6 years... our house gained value along with all houses as the housing market rose.... we eventually swapped our house in Hitchin for one of the same value in Norfolk, which we could have done at any point... we chose to move 10 years after we paid off the mortgage. The video was about paying off the loan in 6 years rather than the 25 year term of the initial mortgage and the huge benefits of doing so...

@@NicHills thanks Nic I'm very aware of what a mortgage is. It sounds like you managed to pay the mortgage off through a lot of hard work, but still off the back of a successful retail store, not just from "reselling". And you'll acknowledge that retail format success would be very tough to replicate today. You have your house now due to the soaring Hitchin property market that has outperformed Norfolk, allowing you to "trade up" as such. I have nothing but respect for where you have gotten, but fear others may be very disheartened as eBay resellers wondering why they can't do the same today that you have, hence the reason for my comment - not to criticise you but to contextualise it so others don't feel inferior in their eBay business progress.

Its such a fantastic journey you've both been on, but not without huge risk. Some people aren't prepared to take such risks, through fear or lack of self belief, and thats fine. But you guys have demonstrated what is possible through hard work, commitment, and risk. I think what is also extremely important is the fact you look so happy and content with life, which you could argue is more envious than wealth. A huge amount of people don't realise how much mortgage overpayments reduce the term. On a 100k mortgage, a monthly overpayment of £100 from the beginning, will knock 6 years off the 25 year term and save £18,000 in interest payments. We always overpaid, initially £50, upped it to £100 plus put some annual bonus money into it also some years. I think we finished our repayment mortage about the 16 year point (100k mortgage).

It is absolutely possible. You can work hard and pay off your mortgage years, if not decades early. Involves sacrifices and altered priorities, if you want to be mortgage free you have to focus and channel your efforts. A lifestyle that's not for everyone, admittedly. Haters are always going to hate.

Hi Nic and Andrea, have been following you for many years now and agree with all comments said. You’ve worked so hard the both of you and made tactical decisions to reach your aim and goal which you did and congratulations 👏 on that. It inspires thousands that follow you no doubt! I’ve been reselling since 1999 but unlike yourselves have done it as a side hustle just to pay for extra stuff and bills. However I don’t believe the term it’s never too late! With that I will be putting in more consistency and effort to reach the goals we have also of owning our own home again hopefully within the next ten years! Wish us luck 🙏 regards the gentleman’s comment though on your feed about you not ever being able to buy that house on reselling alone! I think in a way he may be correct after listening to the video you’ve just done! A lot of the funds I know you were already mortgaged free at this point but the mad 😮 increase in your house value at Hitchin was a big contributing factor to you being able to get the house in Norfolk and although that is also reselling the house and getting the funds for the new house it was I would say in the right time frame and the increase in your asset that helped also, which was a fantastic outcome. I think if you read his views over I think he was saying you can’t buy a house such as the one you are in solely from just selling stuff on eBay! I think that was his point, yet I would disagree with that as if you are wise and tenacious and frugal and sell enough for long enough I do believe in time you can buy a good home with the earnings from eBay Etsy etc! I think probably the people that don’t believe are probably not in it 24/7 which I believe is also a trait you must have that people don’t realise , such as 18 hour days for example! Anyway whatever he thought we think you are both awesome and give others hope and positivity to see what can be done with the hard work 😓 well done again and many more fruitful years ahead no doubt! That’s the other thing about reselling there is no upper age limit I can’t see you and Andrea retiring from selling just yet 😊 all the best Chris Kerry

Whilst as others have written about having to explain yourselves, your back story was extremely interesting. Some of the history mirrored ours regarding paying off the mortgage. We made the same decision and paid it off in 6 years too, doing the same paying the max each year without incurring penalties. We did this on my husband’s regular teaching salary and he ran teacher training courses in his subject at weekends. I wasn’t able to work as I’m a full time carer for our disabled daughter and my elderly mother. Like you we decided to lead a frugal lifestyle. I cooked from scratch, batch cooked too. Looking for deals, reduced sticker items, bought items out of season and in sales. Our home improvement projects were on hold unless desperately needed. A month before Lockdown 1 we paid it off. Our friends enjoyed their lavish lifestyle but with debts. Last year we made the monumental decision to purchase a second property. A two bedroom apartment for rental. This a very long term investment for our disabled daughter’s financial future. The rental income is just under the mortgage and letting management fees. We’re ok with that and just manage it. We’re slowly embarking on the home improvement projects. Love watching your videos and I dabbled with a few eBay sales, but struggle getting the postage right and loose out. Hey ho I’ll get the hang of it one day. All the very best to you both.

I agree with the previous comment, you do not need to justify your current position. You and Andrea have worked bloody hard for a lot of years. You have sacrificed many things to get where you are today. I too am mortgage free but I made different sacrifices. My teen/early twenties years to study for a qualification (girls came later!) then many. many years making other people rich. I had 2 nervous breakdowns during that time. I do not feel guilty and am now enjoying my retirement. Just don't make my mistake, don't wait until you are in your mid sixties until you retire. All the best, Mick

I've gone from listing as much as I can to listing something every six weeks, the last thing sold for £4.00 so that was well worth it , not. Well done for doing what so many people have failed to do, you had the foresight and the will to carry it off. Now speaking for myself, I just don't feel it anymore . I wouldn't mind but I wasn't even paying for the stuff, I was getting it for nothing, loads of quality stuff that came along , nothing illegal before anyone asks lol.. So yeah, I need to have a word with myself, do you know anyone that wants 5 Herbert Terry anglepoise lamps ?

Congratulations! May your successes continue. 🍾🥂😉

Hi Andrea and Nic. Love you two! You’re journey is truly inspirational. I watch all of your videos. I often find myself smiling, laughing and commenting out loud! It’s like you are friends of mine ❤ Congratulations on what you have achieved and the integrity you show. I turned 54 recently and have been simplifying my life for a while now. I’ve become quite retrospective, alongside being more focused. I’m an Art & Wellbeing teacher in an Alternative Provision- a pupil referral unit…I don’t like using that term- It can be tough mentally and physically, however I love the students I work with, they are often misunderstood and don’t fit into the Mainstream mould. I celebrate difference! Art gets me through and hearing about what you two get up to, gets me through too! Andrea, I share your love of studio ceramics. My mum used to bring home a studio piece, from wherever we were holidaying as kids. I love all the Cornish studios. My biggest passion, has always been 50’s/60’s/70’s ceramics and furniture. My first ever piece was an Arthur Wood canister. I keep my tea in it 😊 I’m a mug collector like you. Nic, Happy Fathers Day btw. I love Depeche Mode and Erasure- saw them at Wembley Arena in late 80’s/early 90’s? You’d probably know the date😊 Keep doing what you’re doing and thank you 😊 Paula xx

Some people find it hard to believe that if you make financial sacrifices by not living the lavish life, and forgo new cars and large holidays and live a little modestly, then yes you’ll gain financially in the long run. It’s about whether you want to live life in the moment, or risk it, and hold on for a more comfortable future. There’s merits to both trains of thought. But you certainly can’t have both unless you’re extremely lucky too.

Was the person maybe confused and forgot you used the sale of your previous money to pay for this house and you have been reselling for a long time making good money, not to mention some epic deals. young resellers starting out should IMO set their goals on owning their own house, which may take years but really provides a more stress free life

Been watching your videos since the beginning Nic - I have no doubt in my mind that you easily paid off your mortgage and are debt free now. Hard work definitely paid off and you should be super happy with what you've both done. All the best!!

We paid off our mortgage early on too Nic. Hard work, smart saving, resist foolish spending are all contributors to this goal. I have taught my children the same thing. My advice to them has been "protect your health and life first, and your credit second as credit will carry you through hard times and goals if managed properly". I have four children, they are all married, are successful in their careers, and have managed finances well. Kudos to you and Andrea for your hard work paying off your home and reaching your goal. Congratulations!

All people see is the profit and the amount you make, never the work and effort you put into it, we had the same throughout our business ventures, keep up the happy lifestyle you both earned it.

You and Andrea worked very hard for it. Re-selling is also hard work. It is not a 9-5 job. I’ve been your friend for a long time and know the things you told me over the years and what it took. ❤️ you guys. Your Dutch friend Anja

You really made your shop an incredible place! That took lot of energy and zest, A lot of imagination! The break-ins sound horribly devastating! I am so sorry for you. You and Andrea deserve a lot of credit for paying off your mortgage early! That is awesome!

You should feel proud of how far you have come and having had to work so hard for it. I have been watching for a about a year and half I think, and found you through Antiques arena so didn't really know the full story until now. I hope your business continues to thrive.

Hi Nic,I am so pleased for you. You have worked hard to earn it and deserve it. I am a part-time reseller and hope one day to own my own home.Reselling has given me an extra bit of income and am proud of what I have done to build on my little business. But like you said you have to put effort in to get gains 😊.

That was a lovely video. Know the basics of your story already but feel so inspired and happy to have watched this. I'm chuffed to pieces for you guys and what you've achieved. I'm on my way to the same place as you, but taken a slightly different and somewhat wonky route 😂 happy vibes video 😊 thanks Nic x

It’s not surprising at all. We almost did this 6 years ago, moving from West Sussex to Norfolk. I believe you also moved from the south / south east? Property is dirt cheap in Norfolk compared to down south, so I can totally believe this. It’s an option for any one who lives in the south, move further north and you can essentially be mortgage free as the property is so much cheaper. Good luck to you if it makes you all happy.

As a fan of the channel and would love to meet you both. I think that's outstanding and if I could do half of what you have done I would be happy. You seem to know your stuff and are willing to take the risk when needed and every so often that has to be done. Keep up the great work and videos. Woof woof to Jeff

Very interesting video,thank you. Find it really sad that people call someone a liar when they have no idea of your background. You and Andrea have a lovely house and have done amazing through your ups and downs of work life. Everyone has had those jobs we hated, always best to get out if you can
