Obviously you need the owners who are prepared to spend the dough. Barry Geraghty made a good point that Willie Mullins would have top 2m hurdlers to 3m chasers. I think N.Henderson likes speedy hurdlers and P.Nicholls likes his big staying chasers.

Nicky is obviously good at getting a class horse 100% fit and ready for the big day. 9 Champion Hurdles and 6 Champion Chases tell you that. But outside of Cheltenham he probably doesn't have them as spot on. Perhaps he is a bit slow to step horses up in trip? Shishkin could have been a Gold Cup winner two years ago had he been trained by Nicholls. Nicholls is the best in terms of keeping a horse at the top throughout the season and its career. He's won the King George so many times because he comes back with the same horse and wins it the following season. He's also won the Tingle Creek 12 times and the Champion Chase 6 times, so it's not just three milers he's training well. But does he just not buy the Champion Hurdle type or does he not get enough speed into them? Willie has adapted his game the most out of any trainer. He worked out what it took to win a Champion Hurdle, then he wanted to win a Gold Cup, then he wanted to win a Champion Chase. For anyone that thinks Willie is streets ahead, remember he has had less Gold Cup winners than Nicholls, less Champion Hurdle winners than Nicky and less Champion Chase winners than either of them. Henry has had a few good seasons lately but it takes a lot longer to get established as one of the best. The Tizzards similarly had a great few seasons with Cue Card, Thistlecrack and Native River all coming along in quick succession. I can see why Gordon Elliott wasn't included. He has trained one Gold Cup winner and three Grand National winners, but not got close to winning a Champion Hurdle or a Champion Chase.

Ill say it straight jj o Neil is a terrible trainer, hes had the best facilities in the world and literally given every McManus horse under the sun and he done absolutely nothing. Mullins Nichols Henderson and Elliot are by far the best NH trainers, either one of them could do wonders with horses who aren't amazingly talented. I love the way Henderson takes really good ones and puts them through the program he always has the best interests of the horse in mind and they just ooze class, so Henderson is my favourite of the bunch.

im guessing a bit devilment going on here as to why no Elliott on list. He started himself with very little support training a couple of horses. Nicholls brilliant trainer got major financial support from Barbers. Elliott to not make the list having trained 3 national winners, before end of decade will be 2nd with cheltenham winners, will surpass nicholls 2-3 yrs. All top trainers willie, henry, paul, nicky, gordon in no particular order.

De Bromhead absolutely way underrated. This guy has won Champion Hdle, Gold Cup back to back & Grand National. The 3 big races in the same season & Rachel Blackmore Top jockey Cheltenham so Henry De Bromhead must've been close to Top trainer the year Rachel was top jockey.

The only reason Jonjo was on the list was to appease AP.....funnily enough AP did more for Gordon Elliotts street cred by constantly bigging him up, Mullins gets the lions share of cracking horses so he is obviously going to stick out.....years ago Paul Nicholls had the benefit of a having superstars in his yard, unfortunately he hasn't had too many top class horses in the last 10yrs.....Silvinaco & Clans were good animals and won their fair share of grade ones but they were a class below the likes of Kauto, Denman, Big Bucks & Masterminded

Willie Mullins is some trainer, arguably the best NH trainer BUT i would rather side with Paul Nicholls or Nicky Henderson. Sadly Paul for some reason isn't getting the horses he was back 8-10yrs ago. Nicky is still getting a bit luckier but his horses need good/fast ground which Sadly ruined last year's Cheltenham.
