Nick Carparelli on college football's biggest issues and what it was like recruiting Donovan McNabb

On the latest episode of Syracuse Sports, Brent Axe chats with Bowl Season Director Nick Carparelli on some of the biggest issues affecting college football in 2024 including NIL, the transfer portal, paying athletes as employees and the college football playoff.
Carparelli tells Axe some of the highlights of a recent conversation with NCAA President Charlie Baker on how schools will beed to bring name, image and likeness right "in-house" and handle payouts to athletes. Brent and Nick also talk about the college football playoff and how many teams is ideal, what changes need to be made in the college sports calendar in terms of when the transfer portal should be open and when it shouldn't.

It's a crying shame that the most populous area of the country - the northeast - doesn't have a major national conference representing it. If bowls are so meaningful, why do players opt out of them in greater numbers?

I just think certain people don't want to see certain people get money this was the never a problem in baseball or hockey why they were always able to sign big deals and sign earlier straight out of high school with no problems certain people push their kids to go to certain schools and put all kind of pressure on them to make it in these pre-K schools that are so prestigious for certain people push their kids in sports that the kids love
