EXACTLY! Back when Gracie OWNED the Octagon did you hear fighters gripe about "Oh its not fair. He doesn't stand and trade strikes. He is only submitting people"? NO! fighters started to learn BJJ to assist them when they came up against BJJ practitioners. Did you hear Grapplers complain "Oh its not fair. Those guys don't want to go to the ground"? NO they learned to toss leather to help them in future fights. GSP never started out as a wrestler. But after the Hughes fight he learned the craft.

The point of the UFC is for martial artists of any style to fight each other. If wrestlers are winning against other stylists you don't make rules to ban wrestling technique, you find techniques to diffuse and beat them. The point is to have as few rules as possible while still managing not to be bloodsport. If you don't want to see wrestling go watch boxing.

Now I am a very big Diaz fan, but in general I think people are so hard on the wrestlers, always stating they "hug ass" the whole fight. That's there specialty skill. That's like a grappler complaining that a striker just wants to stand the whole time. The fight goes everywhere. If you don't like a wrestlers method then train to defend it. Like GSP. Everybody says he just dry humps his whole fight. He's strong everywhere but why not use what's working for him? IMO.

GSP's always working when he's on the ground. Fighting for control. Fighting to maintain control & striking. You should broaden your horizon, expand your knowledge learn to appreciate wrestling. The work that goes into being able to control someone on the ground when done correctly wrestling is something at which to marvel. Also, Condit's ALWAYS active on the ground. Watch his fights where it goes to the ground. 7 out of 10 times Condit's usually out landing the person who's in his (1/2)guard.

I never said Condit isn't active on the ground, I said Hendricks was stalling against him, you misinterpreted me. And I like wrestling, just not when wrestlers use their strong base to stall and win rounds and essentially the decision. It's atypical of what true martial arts is, it's the degradation of MMA...

When Nick fought Penn. BJ was no where near the dominant fighter he had been when he was on that terror. Nick is a great fighter. But lets be honest. He needs to learn to accept responsibility for his own losses and stop making asinine excuses about wrestlers. If he knows that he has trouble wrestlers. Develop your TDD. In his interviews leading up to 158 he mentioned about how if GSP was "going to take him down all night" he (GSP) would run into problems on the ground through his BJJ.
