Yeah I never really thought of it but isn't it essentially a rewrite of Reelin in the Years? Trying to see the connection 2 Phil and Company and Basher? I guess that would be phonogram records which had a connection 2 stiff records. I guess his delivery is kind of in that Phil kind of way which is weird because Elvis Costello had that husky tone to his voice and obviously he was part of Lowe's crew. Then again I guess this is all an offshoot of Pub Rock and Birch would know all that 1976 cross over into New Wave Punk

Must've been 1978. A friend BEGGED me to go see Bad Company with him at the LA Forum. I agreed, nearly kicking and screaming. I had become a huge fan of the new Punk undrground (which included a lot of Roots & Garage genres). On our drive to the show, I asked my friend, "Is there at least an opening act, so it's not a total loss?" He said, "Yeah, but I 've never heard of them - "Dave Edmunds Rockpile". I couldn't believe it! It turned my attitude 180 degrees around! I was a HUGE fan. We got there about midway through their first song. Nick Lowe was decked out in a 1963 Beatles colorless suit - and the band was kicking ass. Bad Company's fans were dancing in the aisles! When Dave Edmunds cut loose with "I Hear You Knockin' "- there was an arena-wide gasp (OHHH! That's who they are!"). It became Rock 'n' Roll pandemonium. Bad Company came out - and after one song, were met with "Bring back the OTHER band!" I felt bad for Bad Company (to a point). But, Rockpile had left them gasping on the dust bowl of what was OLD. Rockpile was kicked off the tour shortly after that. But the point was MADE! 😎
