Nick Diaz vs Robbie Lawler 2 ended in a strange manner where it seemed like Nick Diaz quit in the fight after getting dropped. What was Diaz doing well? What did Lawler do well? Why did Nick Diaz quit?

As soon as Robbie walked away calling him up, my heart sank. You could see it on his face. Such a sad moment, really. Especially with some of what he was saying in the lead up, as you mentioned, feeling like he 'needed' to be in there again. That's so heavy given his backstory... @@anotherfoundsheep1773 I guess that’s true, but he certainly seemed a little bummed about it himself... Fighting was this dude’s whole life. It can be a pretty heavy experience learning about yourself, especially in a cage against a guy you knocked out nearly twenty years ago. It was sad to see him in that state of not really knowing who he is anymore, now that he knows (or at least ‘should’ know) fighting isn’t it for him at this point. Not sad like pathetic, literally sad, as a fan, to see such a hero down on himself.

Mad love to Nick Diaz. It's easy to jump to the conclusions based on how the fight ended without knowing what was going on outside of the ring. Also, all credit to both fighters. Nick landed 150 significant strikes, the 5th most of any UFC middleweight fight, and that was 2.5 rounds. His boxing looked as if good as ever to me. Plenty of faster power shots mixed in with the slower range finders. Wish he had been in a bit better shape and with the old aggression and pressure. When he was briefly fighting forward it was very successful.

Nick was not in great shape because he couldn't train. He wasn't hurt from the punch. He had an injury. He had ruptured discs in his neck during this fight. He had to do the fight, he couldn't cancel and he basically did the fight for free because he had to pay his fine still for testing positive for cannabis years ago and had bills to pay. So, instead of fucking up his neck worse, he chose to not continue. That is what REALLY happened.

Honestly there is a fuller picture here. Remember Nick talking about how hard it was to watch Nate v Edwards? He said it changed him watching his baby brother get so bloodied up like that, he is a different person than he was before, between that and the gym teaching kids MMA. Notice in the post fight interview, he specifically says "i know im leaking, i didnt wanna make a mess everywhere" when has a Diaz ever said something like that? Well watch the post fight interview again and take note of Nate in the corner and I think the pieces come together. Regardless of how it could have ended, we would have seen a lot of blood leaking from Nick. And I think he did not want Nate to see that. Idk, i could be wrong. But i genuinely think Nick has changed and the fight game is over for him. He will always be a great and I hope he excels at whatever he does, even if it winds up being fighting again, but I genuinely believe we have seen the last of Nick Diaz in the octagon.

I think Nick lied and fought injured and why he quit god knows but it wasn’t bc he broke his nose. Alotta ppl fight with broken noses all the time yeah it Clogs your airways a lot but he’s a triathlon runner. Something also is fucked up in his camp. I think Nate cut him off on money bc he has his own family now and told Nick it’s his turn bc he’s tired of holding down the family on money. Some ppl might say he makes money off other shit but obviously it’s not enough or he wouldn’t have fought at all.

With the way Nick has been acting, I hope he doesn't take this too hard and damage himself.. emotionally or physically.

Yea it sounds like maybe he’s going through a deep depression. He said in that espn interview “I’m doing this for everyone else, not me. Well I don’t know what else to do for me” or something like that. Maybe he’s just struggling for a purpose in life at this point.

He didn't do all that bad for someone who hasn't fought at that level in 6 years. He def was a lot better then Tito and Chuck. Was glad to see he could still have the same type of out put as he used to. Sure the punches may not have been as hard or fast but think about how much he threw after being off for 6 years. I'd love to see him do some boxing as I think that suits him much better at this age. I hope this loss doesn't hurt Nick but only helps him get back on track with his life. Thank you so much Nick for making that sacrifice for us fans. Thank you.

He quit because he has been off for 6 YEARS and was only given 6 weeks to prepare for it...coupled with new management and a shakeup in his personal life. It was clear from just a minute into round 1 that something was not right. He was not in condition which has never happened before. His heart clearly was not in the fight.
