His career is over and maybe life . Probation is not an option in Nevada for a conviction on a charge of DUI causing death or DUI causing substantial bodily injury. Both carry a possible sentence of two to 20 years in state prison. Henry Ruggs III killed another human being. Driving an expensive car 150+ MPH through a neighborhood while intoxicated was not a "mistake" or a "bad decision". One of the worst parts of coaching is situations like this. You no longer have control over the players that helped you succeed. You cant help them and some coaches will feel like they didnt do enough to prepare their players for life after football. Now, there are plenty of guys like Bobby Petrino. They dont care about anybody other than themselves. They are not invested in that player beyond the time they spend coaching him. However, a lot of top coaches are more like Saban, Pete Carroll and Kirby Smart than the other type. However, these are not infallible men just because they coach football at a high level. Everyone is flawed.

I have no sympathy for Henry. All NFL teams have driver services for players who need a ride after they’ve been drinking. He DECIDED to ignore that. He DECIDED to drink. He DECIDED to then drive. He DECIDED to go 156 mph on a residential street. His terrible, reckless, selfish, negligent decisions resulted in the death of an innocent young woman. I hope they put him under the jail. The clarity and communication that Nick Saban showed there, was graceful, and direct. I pray that no coach ever be in that position, with one of their former players, be it Ryan Day, Luke Fickell, Ed Ogeron, Jimbo Fisher, or Dabo Sweeney…. I also pray that the victims get justice, and peace, during this time, and like Nick Saban said, our actions have consequences… Unfortunately bad decisions ended the life of a victim, and ruined his life as well… Prayers from Buckeye Country to everyone involved, because sometimes life is bigger than a game or a rivalry, and sometimes it’s just nice to reach out and say “Hey, we hope you are all okay” Great job handling that difficult question Coach Saban.

I wish the Univ of Alabama would consider doing a PSA about the ramifications of driving under the influence. Many of us have been affected by this in our personal lives & while we all know that as a 22 year old we're going to make mistakes and/of have lapses in judgement the consequences of the loss of life & the loss of her dog are always a very real possibility Admittedly this is a tragedy for all families & will be something Henry will have to deal with for the rest of his life. The rest of us need to be reminded that all actions have consequences. This is not a time for blame but one of those moments in time where everyone can be reminded of the dangers. Henry will no doubt face rightful consequence. And coming from Coach Saban or collegiate athletes perhaps more people will be reached. Prayers to all affected, past & present

You are correct. People will continue to drive under the influence I lost a sister in 1982. Who was a passenger in a car & was hit head on & killed by a drunk 19 year old. Young people need to be reminded it is not only illegal to drive under the influence but innocent people can die As a family member of a victim of a similar crime of course my thoughts & prayers are with the victims family The crime continues 30 years later The only thing that has changed is the legal very consequence where in 1982 the driver of the other car only received probation. Ruggs will rightly face much more. I take no blame off of Ruggs.
