I'm an OSU fan and alumni, and I think right now you have to go with Saban. It's really 1A and 1B because they are both so good, and I think head and shoulders above everyone else, but Saban has two more titles, I think he is the better recruiter (very slight edge), and I think from 2008-2013 he was coaching in the best conference and was absolutely dominating the competition on his way to 3 national titles. Nick got the upper hand in 09. Urban got revenge in 2014. I would really love them going head to head in the National Title game this year. I think it would be amazing because both teams have strengths and weaknesses. These arent all time great teams so I think it would come down to coaching.

Nick Saban is riding on the shirt tails of the "BEAR" Bryant! The "Bear" built such a dynasty that so many great High School players would chose Alabama over most everybody else. Obviously all of them couldn't go there, so many had to go other places even though they want to go to Alabama. Now, some of those better players are choosing other schools and some chose to stay in their home states. So in a way, Saban is very fortunate to be at Alabama because many great high school players desire to go to that school. He really doesn't have to do much recruiting. Urban Meyer is getting that way at Ohio State as he gets great players as well! As for Harbaugh, he hasn't proved anything yet to put him anywhere near the coaching ability of several other college coaches.

@@dhornish Look, I have nothing but absolute respect for Bear Bryant. I'm a lifelong fan, I came in a few years after Bear was gone but I heard the stories, I read the books. Bear was the greatest of his era. Now, to say Saban owes his success at Bama to the Bear....that's ridiculous. If there was a hint of truth to that why didn't Perkins? How about Curry? Stallings was great, he just didn't stay long enough. What about Shula? He had the best pedigree, qb'd at Bama, son of the greatest NFL coach, still couldn't win. Bear was gone in '82. Saban came in '07.....long way down the line. Saban wins because he knows how. He's the greatest of his era. He's tied with Bear in nat'l titles! Man, when I was a kid I thought that was untouchable. We should be grateful as Bama fans we got 'em both.

Since this aired Alabama played for and lost a National Championship to Clemson, played for and won a Nation Championship against Georgia (beating Clemson 24-6 in the playoff's) and is currently 10-0. Ohio St. was absolutely CURB STOMPED TWICE, by Iowa 55-24 in 2017 and Purdue 49-20 this year. Not to mention being shut out by Clemson 31-0 a week before this airing. Had a wife better assistant coach who Urban Cryer's covered for. Cryer's is great.

Nick Saban is a way better coach the Urban Meyer. Look at recruiting to the school. There record as a head couch. How many national championships have they won. Nick Saban has turned two SEC programs from sub par 500 teams to championship competitions teams every year. Nick Saban is in my mind the best college football coach ever. The reason why Urban Meyer is so good is the Big 10 is weak compared to the SEC

If winning is so easy with top recruits... getting top recruits is one thing, developing these players and building great teams is another. Jimbo Vice If the BEST football players want to go to Alabama, then common sense would have you that they'd win the NC every year. For example, Najee Harris, top running back prospect, and he's committed to Alabama. That's one of many, many players. But one thing's for sure, these Alabama players don't do so well in the NFL, because they don't unlock their full potential when in college as opposed to schools with low ranked prospects. They have to put 110% every time and they make it big in the NFL.

The whole point of having a debate is to determine the better debater. Otherwise, we just look at the facts/numbers/information, make a comparison, and the question is answered. Skip is the Floyd Mayweather of question dodging; which is effective against easily distracted debate opponents. Unfortunately, the numbers don't add up here. Personally, I feel the question is broad, but that's what you need to have a debate. Here's a more narrow example: Who is a better coach head-to-head? Urban 2 (UF, tOSU), Saban 2 (BAMA) - and... debate. At the end of the day, does Skip believe in the position he argues, or is he knowingly choosing the less popular side for the purpose of having a debate? I don't know. All persuasions aside, if Ohio State wins the championship this year - and beats Alabama head-to-head in the process - the debate should be revisited. Until then, it's Saban - no contest. Jmho.

At the time of this debate, Nick Saban Coached against 3 Heisman trophy winning Quarterbacks in the SEC alone during his tenure. He faced 2 of them twice;(Manziel and Tebow) splitting victories against both of them. Of course he was going to give up points.
