I wonder how many fellow Nick Wright viewers are from India? I've been his viewer since the beginning. Funny thing is I discovered Nick because I was a huge Luka fan back in the mid 2010s when he was on Real Madrid and i found Nick was like the first person in mainstream American media who talked about Luka, and since day 1 referred to him as a generational prospect back when Luka was 16-17. Now to see how he is a Laker on a team with LeBron from that point.... it is some insane loop

It’s just “Day to Davis” but yeah. It’s rough man, as a Laker fan seeing AD every night he was doing the best he could but just could not stop himself from getting hurt. The last two years btw he played in like 90%+ of the games so he’s conquered his injury woes for me. Mavs shouldn’t be worried about injury, it’s just a fact that he’s 31 and Luka is 25 which is rough. But the mavs are contenders now w ad they could go to the finals if the players jell cuz it’s an amazing mix and a scary playoff matchup.

Hey Nick, kc kid living in dallas now, all the buzz around dallas is the luka trade is centered around the Adelson family’s lobbying efforts to legalize gambling in Texas. They made no headway this legislative session and will not have another shot for 2 years. Word in the mavs building is they want to use the threat of the mavs relocating to vegas as their last bargaining chip to get their casino/new mavs arena approved in dallas and can’t have a contending mavs team with a top 5 player to make that realistic.

I have kept thinking up trades in my head for this, it's wild. I think they could have called PHX and got KD and Book, paired them with Kyrie and Klay, and they immediately become contenders. This is why Nick’s so good when he’s not in hot-take mode. He lays out a coherent thesis. It doesn’t always end up as he would’ve expected, but most of his contemporaries (SAS, etc.) are such 1st-level thinkers with no real credible reason for their views that they miss the bigger picture.

For the Lakers, going from bad to terrible defensively isn't that big of an issue. At some point, your defence is just the clock and the other team inevitably missing around 50% of their shots. If their offence improves more than their defence worsens, they're better off.

People don’t understand basketball if you say Bron nd Luka won’t work. Playoff basketball comes down to half court offense. How you gonna scout a pick&roll? Bron can play screener, high man or low on the weak side. You can’t double Luka no more. They both can play elbow low post. JJ is gonna have a field day drawing plays up. They just need a lob threat. They get Claxton or even Capella from ATL. They might be in the final this year.

I think LeBron and Luka will be able to play together just given that both of them have high levels of basketball IQ. Both players are driven to win, and are willing to sacrifice their own individual stats to do so. And both are prolific scorers and passers. I can only imagine a pick and roll with LeBron and Luka could be unstoppable. You would basically have to have two elite defenders guarding each of them and switch on every pick and roll. But then again, there is nobody in the league who can guard either one of them, one on one.

I would like to offer an argument for Luka’s ceiling, rather than floor, is 4th best player. Giannis is a top defender, and Shai is looking like he could even get a defensive team at one point, and they’re both on Luka’s level offensively. Jokic is also on Luka’s level offensively, and is the third best defender of this group. Luka’s offensive talent isn’t so much better than any of these guys’ to make up for the clear defensive deficiency.

I love Nick but his goat debate is contradictory. LBJ basically is Brady, but with half the titles. He is an all-time great and top5, no doubt, but he has always been changing teams to maximize his company and not even that made him win more titles than Steph in Golden State. There was nobody winning titles regularly when Jordan was on top, now there isn't as Mahomes is on top. Brady obviously had 2 runs, split by a drought, but nobody was winning during those.

no one considering the possibility that luka is a locker room CANCER. if he were anyone else this would be the very first suspicion.

Everyone around him says he's awesome, including his current coach who broadcasted that to everyone lol. Why would that be different if he were anyone else? Edit: what is your context for this? I've never seen this in any sport to compare it to.

@@TylerHolt-n5q ok so imagine that he is indeed a locker room disruption...does this trade make sense then...? yes it does. if he is, its one of the only ways dallas could win this trade. thank you for reading.

Lakers will 100% win a chip in the next two years. Don’t let the media gaslight you like this wasn’t Nico gifting his good pal in LA a championship team. And this is coming from a certified Laker hater.

@@ky_jellybean This is a hypothesis at best, not even close to a theory. Really it's just speculation. Regarding the 2nd part, I just have more faith in an NBA GM than this. I'm not using hyperbole, I think a psych eval is warranted if the facts are exactly as reported right now. What's the lowest level of "theory" you can come up with that explains the missing info?

@@TylerHolt-n5q apologies for the rudeness. current state of our country has maxed out my tolerance for the ‘everything’s a conspiracy’ folks In terms of explaining this move, we see unqualified people in power all the time. Nepotism > merit all over the place in the corporate world. What makes a GM job any different? Look at the Jets, Giants, Raiders. not coincidentally, Mavs GM only negotiated this trade with his buddy Pelinka (Pelinka was Kobe’s agent, this guy was his Nike rep) I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy had a massive ego and traded their best player bcuz of it. Same ego is why Brady got kicked out of NE while still good enough to win a SB I don’t think any darker or more serious would-be reasons need to be fed into in this case, but what do i know

@@ky_jellybean It's not really a conspiracy when its the most logical explanation. A drunken toddler wouldn't make this trade. They didn't even get the laker's second first. Mikal bridges went for 5 firsts several months ago. And the reports are all that luka wasn't shopped. He had to go to LA; and why would that be? Either the mav's gm is the dumbest gm of all time and sent his buddy the biggest favor of all time; or the league needed a ratings boost and this was their best idea. Or the gambling theory (although I think that one would be less likely)
