Thanks WHR. If there's any useful advice, it's to keep your speed under control and assume all other road users are out to kill you. With luck you'll still be riding when your hair is grey, or (like me) you've lost most of it. Stay well.

Just finished and enjoyed "Do It While You Still Can". The Panther really caught my attention. I didn't know they existed. I would love to have one just to look at and of course to ride. I agree with you on solo riding on the highway, but I prefer to ride with buddies off road. At 80 I need help if I flop over or get hurt in the boondocks. Here in Central and Eastern Oregon help can be far, far away. I do carry an InReach Mini SOS thingy for an emergency. Harley riders like almost all riders here seem to be a friendly lot. The machine is one thing but it's really just about the ride. Cheers.

An interesting trip with plenty of variety in the scenery Nick. Good to ride along with you. Camera shake is an issue but seems almost unavoidable on the rough stuff. My own solution was a larger breastplate mount, but it's still far from perfect. Taking directions from the locals works well when you've travelled so far without seeing a single road sign.
@nick949eldo2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jonathan. I'll have to see if I can modify my chest mount. Of course, a new camera with decent stabilization would do the trick, but......I'd rather spend the money on fuel, oil and tyres (which I go through like candy...ooops, sweets).😂

Thank you Nick ! The Panther looks great ! I thought that you were just across the street from my house . I seen Moto Guzzi on one of the two bikes and the driver was showing a bit of grey lol but I soon realized it wasn't you . The bike was black , with a wind shield and side cases and looked vintage for sure . As they left I seen 850 on the side . I thought to myself ...I bet Nick probably knows these guys . They had lots of luggage so maybe they were from afar I didn't see their plates . Anyway , I thought for a second ..is that Nick across the street . I thought for a moment it actually was .

Thanks for all the wonderfull stories an videos Nick! The Panther sure reminds me of my friends 04 royal enfield 500cc bullit. Apart from you riding them in your youth, do you think the panther is a better option for that thumper experience? I found an mint 1982 850-t4 guzzi close to home and classic 500 for s song and a dance. Cant deceide which to go with, guzzi looks to be the superior tourer with ample reverbaration and a beautifull v8 exchaust note, but still think the enfield would be so much fun around our forrest and lakeside roads. Maybe is should just get both..
@nick949eldo2 жыл бұрын
I rented a couple of bullets in the UK and enjoyed them both. They are not fast. The only time I took them on a major four-lane highway I stayed at around 100kph which was far slower than most of the traffic but about right for the bike. I thoroughly enjoyed them for exploring many backroads - for which they are perfect. The T4 would be comfortable on any road whether a fast highway or back roads and would definitely be the superior tourer. But there is something about the plonk of a single that's very engaging and the RE Bullets have retained that old world charm. If you can, ride both (or borrow similar bikes) to help you make up your own mind.

Regarding your handlebar camera mount, my 1971 Triumph TR6C has destroyed the focus/stabiliser on two iPhones (11 and 12) with its prodigious vibes - one on a bare quad lock, the other with a vibration damped quad lock. I wonder how long an iPhone would survive such a mount on a Panther? Nowadays I am the biological vibration damper for my iPhone - dare not mount it on the bike. Guess I should either find a cheap phone for google maps use, or alternately learn to read road signs. Currently listening to "Do it while you can" on the way to work - enjoying it immensely thank you. Will need to buy another audio book soon so I can get to grips with the TR6C over the winter and replace its generator which it thought would be great fun to rub its rotor against and melt into oblivion. Greetings from Dave in Denmark

Hi Dave, Thanks for the thoughts. So far no problems with using my Huawei phone on multiple bikes. Perhaps they make them strong so they don't miss any of my important messages in Shanghai 😁. Glad you're enjoring 'Do it...' I enjoy doing the audio, and am always pleased when others like them too. Good luck with the Triumph. It's good to have a winter project for when the weather turns foul. Stay well in Denmark. Nick.

About image stabilization. By now you might have or want the fancy stuff, 360 degrees, smooth as silk like everybody else. Why do I have this problem with excessive technology? I've got to let go of that past world that I simultaneously cursed and was comfortable with. But back to image stabilization. In my opinion, it's not progress. It takes you from feeling like a Participant and just turns you into another Spectator. Also, I find the ultrawide distortion annoying. The real world is just fine. Ok, enough complaining. The motorcycles are tucked away for the winter. It' time to relax by the woodburning stove with a G&T. Cheers.

@@jgordoncooper7112 since this video I bought a GoPro12 with excellent image stabilization. I thought about 360 cameras but concluded that the footage would demand too much editing and my current computer lacks the horsepower. Check some of my more recent videos (such as kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2OodoWhp998bdUsi=-dDox1QOdCpGPsqN ) They are quite a bit less shaky. Thanks for comments though. Appreciated.
