The first bike I truly fell in love with was my 1974 Sportster but my present Harley Davidson Dyna is just a fantastic machine that is the most reliable I've ever owned but maybe my recent purchase of a Suzuki Cavalcade will be as satisfying but only time will tell . Now you make me want an old Guzzi lol
@nick949eldo3 жыл бұрын
Old Guzzi. Giving me a pain in the nck today. Cleaned carbs, checked jets yet the old Bu33er is still hiccuping. 412 miles on the Cade yesterday - not a single burp!

When I was a kid, all my friends had Farrah Fawcett posters on their bedroom walls. Not me. I had a magazine centerfold of a Moto Guzzi V7 LeMans. I also had a picture of an Eldorado.

Many decades ago the shop I was dealing with had a LeMans I featured on the showroom floor. AsI was deliberating its purchase over the next few days, someone beat me to it. It was back in the shop within a week all waded up.

'Waded up'? no comprendo
@wdhewson3 жыл бұрын
@@nick949eldo Regrets, I dropped a "d" wad up. v. To crumple or compress something into a wad: I wadded up the piece of paper and threw it in the trash. The janitor wadded the tissues up and threw them away.

@@wdhewson Ah. That was my first thought but it's not a term I've heard recently, especially in reference to motorbikes. Sad to hear of a Le Mans getting crunched, but perhaps you were lucky after all.

I know what you mean about your Guzzi exhaust sound: I really get a kick out of the "authoritative rumble" from my '99 EV11. It is not overtly loud but sounds like it means business! I also find that you are right about the cylinders running cool: this summer was a scorcher and after 1000s of kms, I never felt heat from the engine at all. Another great vid, Nick

A couple of years ago put money down for a 750 targa which looked gorgeous (would have been my first guzzi) for a trip away for a week but unfortunately they couldn’t get the bike sorted so in desperation I ended up with a enfield 535gt for the trip to be honest it was a nice bike but still wish the targa had been ready ,cheers for the great vid 👀
@nick949eldo2 жыл бұрын
Too bad Neil, although I expect the Enfield was fun. I don't know the Targa - I have no experience with 'small blocks'.
@neillawson42522 жыл бұрын
@@nick949eldo hello is there much difference between the small blocks and Iam guessing the large blocks ?
@nick949eldo2 жыл бұрын
@@neillawson4252 Yes, they are a totally different architecture. The'big block' are the original late sixties V7, 850GT(Eldorado), V7Sport....all the bigger engined bikes up to and including the 1400 California/Eldorado.

I remember reading a magazine road test of a Moto Guzzi V7 Sport, or maybe it was the 750s? Well it was over forty years ago! Anyway it made such an impression on me that earlier this year I bought a forty year old Moto Guzzi Le Mans MkII. Who says road rests don't influence people? Carl, just journeying through.

Very gentlemanly review. Pity we didn't get to see it 'come alive' over 4k revs... does it sit up with torque reaction throttling on from shut-off mid corner? Encourages driving through the bends properly.
@nick949eldo2 жыл бұрын
Never noticed. If it's speed you like, it's not the bike for you.
@therealrobertbirchall3 жыл бұрын
Sure these v7s were sold in Europe as the Le Mans, they had clip on handle bars and rear sets, beautiful looking bikes. The North American version obviously had mid foot controls, hence the reverse shift pattern and the odd inverted handle bars look like a typical Guzzi bodge. Lovely bike though.
@nick949eldo3 жыл бұрын
They 750s and v7sport predate the Le Mans in Europe, in fact the 750s was never sold in North America. The 'odd' handlebars are cleverly adjustable and a factory innovation. Do a little research Robert.
@theeaselrider40324 жыл бұрын
Trying to do an unbiased review of a bike you clearly love, would be the same as doing a review of one of your children. Even if something's not perfect, you are still going to use kind words to describe them. I think on some of the new generation of V7's, M.G. started replicating some of the paint jobs to look more like yours does. Now that would be a good review; A head - head test of the new V7, against the original V7.
@nick949eldo4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I just need to find one, and someone daft enough to lend it to me.............
@rhip994 жыл бұрын
@@nick949eldo Aside from the brakes, I don't know how Guzzi could go 40 years on and make a bike of the same displacement that is a pale imitation of the original. I was lucky enough to own a V7 Sport years ago - should have never sold it, as it the most charismatic bike I've ever owned. Nick has accurately described what a joy they are to ride.
@nick949eldo4 жыл бұрын
@@rhip99 The new bikes are great too. I don't think you should let the similar names put you off- all companies do that. The new V7's are derived from the smallblock platform so a different animal - but charming in their own way. Thanks for the kind comments. Stay well.
