Train probably stops at Morpeth because they have to slow down for the Morpeth curve anyway so it doesn’t really hurt them as much to stop there as it would say at Northallerton which they’d be able to blast through at 100mph+, also the line between Morpeth and Newcastle sees an hourly Northern service that continues on to Carlisle which would hold up trains behind it, so probably helps to stop and create some space to prevent the lumo from riding yellows and reds down to Newcastle
@mrvwbug44233 ай бұрын
Kew Gardens (London) to Kew Gardens (New York) haha. Though I think Geoff Marshall has already done that one. I also don't think railcards work on British Airways hehe. Though in theory it could be quicker than some of the intra-UK point to points, London Kew Gardens is like a 15min uber ride from Heathrow, 6 hours for westbound flight to JFK, 15min on the JFK AirTrain to Jamaica station and New York Kew Gardens is like a 10min trip on LIRR from Jamaica station.

Lumo calls at Morpeth cause open access operators need to serve a station franchise operators dont serve
@nathanw97703 ай бұрын
That doesn't make sense because all operators going through Morpeth stop there at least sometimes. Same with Stevenage except Grand Central.

@simonsv94493 ай бұрын
7:32 Searced on the internet about this one and the reason is this: One of the conditions for open-access operators to be allowed to operate is that they are supposed to create new demand, not take passengers from already existing operators. Morpeth was poorly served by Virgin Trains East Coast at the time (Still only has 7 LNER trains per day, one of their least served stations on the East Coast Main Line). By having a stop at Morpeth, Lumo was planning to open up a new market in Northumberland which was currently underserved. Thats also the reason they stop at Stevenage. LNER services from there don’t go as far as Newcastle and Edinburgh, they terminate in the Leeds Area, York or Lincoln. Lumo aims to create new demand in the area.
@LemoncloudGT3 ай бұрын
Think they stop at Morpeth so they have somewhere that LNER don’t stop proberly due to them using the same line

The stop at Morpeth is also an attempt to divert from people flying. Newcastle airport is only 12 miles from Morpeth for locals who know the back roads, as compared to 7.5 miles from Newcastle Central.
