Hey Nick awesome review! I'm glad you've attributed the credit to QS as well as the frame; I do believe both go hand in hand and it's definitely helped getting the most out of this platform. A few details I'd like to add, - Both F65 and F75 measure exactly 65 and 75mm motorpost to motorpost (TM). Only the stance was widened to fit the cam between the front ducts! - The cam angle is adjustable by friction; you may set it how you like it and it should stay as is. The extra notches are only there to increase friction if it loosens up over time - Lastly the stack screws are indeed self tapping and might degrade the CF after many cycles, but a drop of CA glue will refresh it enough to go a long way, annnd... - The bottom plate is unofficially lifetime warrantied, so if you ever manage to break it, reach out to me and I'll fix you a new one ;) Thank you for taking your time to share your thoughts on it, thank you to all the pilots that shared theirs in the comments and a big big thank you to everyone that supported us, my wife and I, throughout this journey! Have a fantastic holiday and happy new year!

Thank you for the fantastic design. I knew a racing quad would be way beyond my skills as I'm learning. But if I want to really push myself and have a healthy stock of clean underpants I absolutly love ripping this frame! I'm hoping to order a BNF 75 soon in the new year as our weather improves for serious outside rippage. Thanks for the tip on the camera adjustments and what the extra notches are for, I missed that. Plus these things look really cool... If only Happymodel had LEDs on the Diamnond ELRS AIO (looking at my FrSky HM Diamond board) #sadpanda.

Hi Nick, Thanks for the kind words on Quicksilver, i feel you got the gist of what we are about pretty much nailed there! The firmware itself is not strictly micro centric, i fly it on everything, be it whoop or 5in, however many of the core people, including me, are micro enthusiasts, so it might have a slight bias towards them.

I've been looking for a whoop that I can tune up to perform indoor freestyle for years. It all started when I joined IGOW a few years ago and started learning flippy floppies on an underpowered betafpv 1s whoop. I had a tough time of it but was hooked. The never-ending journey began, trying to replicate the feeling I got with a 5-inch quad but indoors with a whoop. Following Heads at Infinity Loops and CiottiFPV I found the fractal frames. I added weebleeds 28500kv 0702 motors, a full-size happy model 5 in 1 aio elrs board and some bi blades. Cranked the tune-up in betaflight and wow, this thing flies on rails. Enough power to catch my mistakes, stiff enough to take an aggressive tune. I love it. Thankyou! I tried to flash quicksilver but could not bind with my elrs tx (running v2.0- elrs). Gave up. Pretty sure I'll need to upgrade to v3 elrs on my tx (and all my rx's) and this should work. Looking forward to feeling the new firmware.. Great review as usual Nick!

Nice review Nick! I just bought an F75 BNF with the BT2.0. Really cool how they soldered on the BT2.0 to shorten the wires and shed some weight. The connectors in your review don't have that though. I noticed the increased stability of the Quicksilver and F75 preset tune right away, sometimes it feels like angle mode but it isn't. It's different but I like it, definitely helps the quad to go where you point it, very confidence inspiring. I had one issue, emailed Fractal but never heard back, maybe Facebook would have been better. Anyway, mine wouldn't roll over in turtle mode, because the props weren't reversing. Studying up I saw Quicksilver has an auto detect for flip if it is armed upside down, cool feature, you just turn it ON in Quicksilver. Oddly, that works fine, props reverse, quad flips. Cheers!

The only thing I think that is better is crash recovery in Emuflight works better, but I literally don’t care about that as I’m not crashing so much with Quicksilver lol.

I really like this frame and its durability! I ordered the 75 frame last February and haven't break anything ever since! This is my first whoop recommendation at the moment, especially for beginners. I only had two small issues with it: - The battery always slides out of the mounting loops in a crash, so I have to use rubber band to keep it there, which adds another 1g or so and the frame is not the lightest one even with the diamond board. So I wish Yves makes a version 2 of this frame with the battery mounted from left to right instead of front to back. - When I first received it, I just used a FC from my old whoop. It was BetaFPV 1S AIO. And the problem was that USB port was sticking out the bottom too much, so I couldn't insert the battery. I had to add extra washers underneath the FC to lift it up a bit and also some rubber pads on the bottom side of the frame to add extra space. Having the battery mounted sideways would've also prevented this issue. Apart from this - the frame is amazing and I guess unbreakable. I crashed it a lot and pretty hard and I only replaced props so far. I use it with happymodel 0802 19000kv, a diamond FC with ELRS and a Foxeer Pico cam. It's flies fantastic and gives you much more confidence to fly aggressively. I fly it on Betaflight 4.3 though.. I tried Quicksilver and it flies great on it as well, but the biggest issue for me was that I killed two brand new batteries on the first two flights. I don't know why. I set it as it was recommended by devs for 1s, but still ended up with the whoop falling at some point because the voltage suddenly dropped to 2.5v. As I can see you kind of had a similar problem. Another thing was that I couldn't make the 16:9 camera work. The image was squeezed to 4:3, but OSD fonts were ok, so I guess it is something with support for 16:9 cameras and there's nothing in settings or in Quicksilver docks. So I rolled back to Betaflight and absolutely happy about it. I don't see that much of a difference in flight performance, but at least I have much more experience with it and know what I need to tune and how. Maybe I'll give the QS another try one day, but I'll use BF for now.

Yves has been combing through the comments. I did note in one of his responses a new beta battery mounting. I might be worth it to make contact to see about testing this as well.

It´s called "audiovisual integration", and actually it´s a cool phenomenon. It shows us, that sounds can getting created by our brains, only with visual waves. The animated gif, with that jumping voltage towers, are a good example for this. What all in all means, that there is no existing sound anywhere if a tree falls in the forest, or such.... ...until the waves collide with a brain.

Thanks for the Vid. I ended up with the 65mm frame kit. I used the Happy Model elrs Diamond board, Beta Flight 4.3 and some happy model 702 26000kv motors. It reminds me of my old 350cc 2-Stroke sports bikes from the late 80's. I don't fly it as much as I'd like, even at the lowest camera angle (for a newbie like me) it's fast, but as my skils improve I take it out more ovten. I love the feel though, tried a few canopy's from thingaverse, I'm goign to go back to the one it comes with (it was fun to experiment). This Channel got me to Infinity Loops and I saw Heads fly this and ordered one. I think I'm going to order a 75mm bnf in the new year. I like both 65 and 75mm formats, and I'm also curious to fly one as the builder intended. Hi Nick, Fractal frames are my recommendation to anyone wanting to whoop around. I had less AIO failures, less broken whoops... but as many motor burned and as many camera destroyed... Some comments: The battery holder gets quite stretched over time. I have many batteries spanning from 450 to 530mAh and some are wider than others (by 0.5mm?). That's enough to make the hold not as good over time. I'd love to use some rubber bands instead. I'd love to toilet tank my batteries too :) Mr. Fractal, maybe a slight change for the next iteration? The camera holder is surprisingly good, even with ANT lite cameras that have the plug. I'm using the old 3 blades props that gave you more efficiency in an old video. I actually prefer these for indoors, as you can turn more aggressively. As for the diamondF4, I had one with horrible video noise coming from the factory, The issue was in one of the caps immediately above ground pin for the battery. It was not properly soldered in the factory and I could see the lack of solder on one end. Happymodel asked me to send it back to them for repair, but that costs a bleeding fortune from my place... Eventually I repaired it myself, but that was a heck of a job... Within maybe 15 flights it died. I contacted HM again and they agreed to send me a new FC, which was really kind. That one has been flying fantastic ever since (board dated November 22)

Great review, great whoop. I'm flying on a F75 on x12 and various 802's. After a hundred packs or so... Tracks amazingly well, i think the squashed-x really shines here. Also tough as anything. I have broken ducts, all v4 mob ducts, always at the joint by the motor. It's3.99 for 4 so no big expense and i rip hard and crash hard. I use holders for 450 and put a rubber band across extra for 300's. I wish the spkies where just a little larger to hold bands better. The tpu works well, but only for its exact battery size. honestly think a rubber band is quicker when you're burning through packs. Also lost the self tapping screws for the fc after repeated abuse, just using 2 now. Camera mount has held up 100% Definitely love this quad and the clever design that's gone into it. There is a vid of mine flying on my channel, check it out.

@NickBurnsFPV2 жыл бұрын
That is a fair variable to recovery to 3.5volts. What I do is tinker with the battery warning voltage. What I am looking for is the voltage when I am not on the throttle all that much, flying straight and flat, that voltage is what I watch. Depending on the weight of the quad and its effcientcy and the battery weight we find the end flight while flying flat that allows us to end/disarm at 3.5 volts.

Hey Nick! Love the reviews, but I have a little request: when you say that a board has built in ELRS can you also let us know what interface the receiver is using? I know that on the HaMo Diamond it's an SPI, but a lot of the newer boards(like the GOKU Versatile F405 2S 12A AIO) are using a UART to avoid the ELRS SPI issues. I know BF4.4 fixes the issue, but it's probably going to come up again at some point so it would be nice to know without having to dig around the net.

I'm wondering do the ducts really need to be on there? Maybe you can take them off and fly them for a week and let us know how it works out!
@NickBurnsFPV2 жыл бұрын
For inside flight I do suggest leaving the ducts on. The risk with taking them off for outside flight is the 1mm motor shafts. They tend to get bent or broken on crashes. We do have the option to get 1.5mm motor shaft motors in the 0802 size from happymodel, that would be my recommendation if flying without the prop protection is desired.
@KOrnhOliO12 жыл бұрын
I built an Ultra Mini digital Ripper and didn't put on the ducts. Flies great, but crashes a ton more cuz every single little tiny tap of anything, and it's tapping those props, so instant crash! 🤷 Still, imagine how lightweight these are without the ducts! A whoop frame weighs about 4 grams, so the 65mm is somewhere around 15 - 16 grams without ducts. 😉👍 Plus, fly that 75mm with the 300mah lipo! What the hell? Why when he flies a 75mm, does the lipo have to go up in mah, and weight, approx.50%? IT DOESN'T! Keep them as light as possible. 😎🤘

Dang it! I just bnought the M7 1s ELRS. Turns out Im always on full throttle in turns, since I love racing in the house like you do. Guess this is the Whoop for racing to get? Is there something better to buy for only racing a tight course?
@NickBurnsFPV2 жыл бұрын
Size of the whoop will depend on the race space. If the M7 is full throttle I am guessing its a really large space, like bigger than my house, or your skills are really top notch. With that, we can get props that have more blades and/or higher pitch. This will reduce flight time and potentially need a pid tune tweak. Otherwise we can replace motors for higher kv to get more speed, but again flight time will decrease some.

i still cant figure out how to bind up the x12 unfortunately with elrs. ive tried everything multiple times and it just doesnt want to connect
@NickBurnsFPV2 жыл бұрын
There is likely 1 primary barrier. The ELRS RX and TX need to be on the same major version. So if one is set to version 2.5 and the other to version 3, they can't bind. Unfortunately with AIO and SPI elrx RX the version is part of betaflight and I don't believe there is a way to identify which version. I believe happymodel is shipping their quads and components with ELRS v2.x, so I would start with flashing your radio module to ELRS version 2.5 and try binding after that. Don't forget to update/replace the lua script that controls the elrs on the radio. They too are version specific.

@NickBurnsFPV2 жыл бұрын
Its likely possible, some of the challenges. The props are going to overlap the FC/AIO, we would need to ensure the AIO is mounted lower than the prop line and that nothing from the AIO is going to be hit by props. The next challenge is camera mounting. A traditional canopy probably isn't going to work all that well as the canopy mounting points will likely all need to be under the prop line. We could design a special canopy that is super low profile under the prop line and the camera mount in the center of the AIO. We could also design a camera mount to go under the prop line in the front.

But you can totally add one yourself if you like; the mounting holes are compatible. One of the main points of that lowrider setup would be that it doesn't require a canopy to protect the camera, because the ducts take care of that Lastly if your cam holder loosens up there are provisions for extra nothes on the strap, so you may pull it one extra notch to tighten it up and it should be solid again :) It also provides a bit of give would you ever hit a pole head on; I don't remember ever getting a feedback of broken cam on those frames Either way, I love to see custom builds based on that frame so good for you if you found one that's not 💩 to you :D
