My family got me these for when I was in grad school and wanted a pair of headphones with noise cancelation. These worked amazing back when I first got them and even work just as well now after 3 years of use. Very comfy, the only problem I ever had is my ears would get somewhat hot after a while in them, but that just might be me. Would highly recommend if you want a pair of comfy earphones, even if they are somewhat large. Also realized recently they even have a mic! Edit: Also on the noise canceling aspect of these headphones: I have not tried a bunch of different noise canceling headphones out really, but in regards to these I really enjoyed the sound cancellation. I was an architecture grad student working in a big open area with all kinds of people talking around me, and found these headphones blocked out almost all that noise really effectively. The only thing I notice still on these is that there is some hissing in the background when no music is on and the bass effect is on. When the bass effect is off the hissing is completely gone.

Great review! You are one of my favorite reviewers. Excellent videos, everyone I saw from you. Glad I found you. You should definitely try the bluedio vinyl plus. They are the best sounding Bluetooth headphones I've ever heard. The bass is extremely strong and full, while having unparalleled mids. The highs are slightly subdued though. Very musical. Imo they sound much better than the Bluedio victory pro. The skullcandy crusher wireless sound pretty good as well.

Just got this today. It was an exchange actually. The nitpick you mentioned early on is one reason I got them. LOL I wear glasses and the MDRX-B650BT wouldn't sit properly. I kept having to adjust them and it would hurt after a short while. So after a few days of using them for hours at a time, I returned it and exchanged it for the MDR-XB950N1. It works way better and is far more comfortable. I'm using this mostly at work and maybe travel. As for noise cancellation, I have an Audio Technica that handles that really well and that I use at home when it gets loud outside. Yes, outside not inside. Landscapers, pool parties, foot traffic, etc. The joys of apartment living. :-/

I got these yesterday to replace the old ones since the hinges that hold the cup broke off. At first it sounded super muddy but download the app and turn down the bass it sounds perfect now. I was very close of returning them. I don't like the static noise when everything is silent via Bluetooth with the noice cancellation.

I see everyone inquiring about these vs skullcandy crusher. I'm not trying to be a hater, but just don't do those. Better yet, go to your local Best Buy and test. You'll see... Sony makes quality audio product. I've gone through 3 generations on these exact pair. My old ones still are in great condition. It's really all about YOU though. Different strokes different folkes. If you like bass remotely. These are the best. Period. Hands down. Not a fake bass sound. Full punchy crisp bass. If you know you know and these are for those that know. Haha

Bryce Lorey paird up my 950's with poweramp on android, the amount of bass they produce is basically what you consider unreal for the size of drivers, then they now fold, have better control especially for batt level, shut up sony and take my money.

I had the old model and bracket that holds the headphone to the swivel broke and had to glue it back together to fix. it is holding up pretty well but I think it’s time to get a new pair. I might get the lower end model

The Sony's are more comfortable, but I personally prefer the Crusher Wireless, they are just more fun to listen to with the amount of bass you can get. I'd say give both a listen!

Omega Disruption except when walking in hot or humid areas where it gets a little uncomfy but the top venting lets some cool wind in and its awesome. The 950's though are solid devices.

The presets don't make too much difference and I don't prefer them myself, but some people may prefer them. The bass boost only works when powered on... The headphones will still work plugged in if the battery dies but the bass boost will not work without being powered on.

The older XB950BT have a manufacturing defect with the hinge, which would break quite often. The new version looks like it eliminates his breaking point with the added hinge area.

The ear peace extender or swivel always break? I know of people from the UK and Canada all trying to find a glue to fix, as they are no glue on the market that will work, and there are no replacement parts. nice sound though

dylan pereira . For music I use the media player that came with android 4.2.2 . But you can easily use it by clicking settings and there should be an equaliser setting. Go to custom , extended. And I put clarity to maximum bass to maximum and 3d to maximum as well but sometimes I use it to 1/3. then go to equalizer and there might be some numbers. The lower it is it controls the bass the higher it is it controls the highs. I put 14k at 4/10 8k at 3/10 3.1k to 2/10 then 150-1.1k to 1/10 and then 60 to 2/10. I chose those because I thought my headphones needed some more highs and lows but you can experiment

Does the app support xb950bt and mdr1000x. I can never have too much bass, xb950bt is one of the best bass headphone. I used viper effect and also add a oppo-ha2 bass enhanced feature and you can feel the earpad flapping your ear lobe with every bass hit!

Are they worth getting if I already have the previous model? How do they sound when wearing glasses? The previous model sounds insane, but even with the bass boost function, I loose some bass when I'm wearing glasses, because the ear cups don't seal right. Does the app offers virtual surround, or just equalizer? Are the equalizer settings saved on the headphones, so I can listen with that configuration when used on a computer, or just smartphones?

The manual says to only charge using a direct connection with a computer via usb. Have you had any issues with charging via power outlet? Also, I have a new MacBook with usb c outlets so I’ll have to get a new charging cord, so hopefully I don’t run into any issues there.

just got these for 119$ huge deal considering you can down tune the bass, something that makes these worth the buy over the crushers or beats options. Some songs have overproduced bass and its nice to be able to dial it back especially considering i use them with my phone as well as my PC. Insurgency sandstorm came out recently and ive been enjoying that game HEAPS with these new Noise cancelling bass cans. Movies too, and if the movie im watching or etc is a lil too bassy i can just tune it down on the fly with my phone its pretty convenient. Ill pay $$$ for these kind of innovations any day over being sold on a name alone. Currently running them off bluetooth and my QUADdac LG v20. As well as on my Schiit stack on my PC. I notice that when i use the high gain setting on my schiit stack the vocals/mids-highs do come back into the picture like they get brought foward, the bass is almost centered in the staging, with the highs-mid highs placed behind the bass, so if im directly connected to my v20's dac amp. It does tend to fall short vs the bluetooth powering the phone. Same to if i connect directly to my pc and not behind the power of my schiit amp. Still though im thoroughly pleased with the performance of these headphones, they hit it out of the park for any well produced hip hop you get clear highs from female voices or brass play, with deep and well staged bass depth. Id say the exact same to the tune of my favorite bass heavy 80s tunes, some smiths youve got everything now or sweet and tender hooligan, to Some new order jams sweetest kiss or dreams never end. I especially enjoy re listening to the cure seventeen seconds album with these headphones. Im going to enjoy re-living many songs and favorites of mine, the same way it was when i got my AKG K7XX(hugest stage ive ever owned). The NC isnt tip top notch like competitors, but it sure helps when im on my PC and my GPU fan is running 75% speed the NC kills the GPU fan noise vs the open back AKG's i own. As well as the amazing bluetooth capability i can jam out to some beck while i make beckfast. Its just nice noticing the nuances of the bass production in songs with the "bass boost" vs the some that are over produced that required the dialing back option.

My only real complaint with the Sennheisers is how cramped the earcushions are. They sound really good and skew more bass heavy, but the Sonys are more comfortable and if you like extra bass, they sound awesome.

Yes they do, if you have them powered on. If you plug them in but don't power them on, then there is no bass boost or noise cancellation.

I personally like the sound of the Crusher Wireless better for the better mids and highs. There is more bass on the Crusher Wireless, and you can set the amount directly on the headphones. Battery life is also better on the Crusher Wireless at 40 hours, but the Sony's are more comfortable.

Same here, i LOVE my crushers! i use em 3-4 hours a night, volume about 80% and bass slider at about 80% also. with that usage i charge the once a week.

kolop1 i have the 950bt i will pick these up for the noise cancellation and the app control but overall even the 950s are fantastic headphones, i have fettled with the settings to enhance the bass and it is sooo cool. I think i will enjoy the new ones because of the noise cancellation and same bass effects.

I have used these many times and I don't think they are too big or get in the way. They stay secure and don't get too warm, but I'm not a heavy sweater.
