I always wished they'd collaborated on a whole album together. Their musical styles are very complementary, particularly with their respective mid-to-late-90s material, eg "Murder Ballads" where this song is from, "Let Love In" and "The Boatsman's Call" in Nick's case; "Is this Desire?", "To Bring You My Love" and "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea" in Polly Jean's case. Together they would've created something truly special. I'm guessing their tumultuous relationship issues might have been a hindrance to such a project. I believe Nick was still using heroin and alcohol frequently at that point, and IIRC PJ had severely curtailed her drug use around the release of her third album "To Bring You My Love" in 1993 (which was dramatically different from her first two albums which were pure grunge, and reflected a permanent change in her sound).
@Timur_aka_Tamerlane Жыл бұрын
@@zonesquestiloveunderworld Harvey was never a serious drug user, certainly not out of control and strung out on the needle like Nick was around this time. There's something in cave's music that almost every song made me cry, even though I don't understanding every word sung because it's not my mother tongue. Greets from Brazil.

Nick lived in Sao Paulo for awhile back in the 90s I think. He had a Brazilian partner/wife he met there on tour.

I just love PJ Harvey. Always have. Her voice is just so rhythmic and calming. Nick reminds of Johnny Cash so much. Just the way he carries the notes in a darkness, but there is a door of escape bathed in light.
