I say no more dubbing actors' singing in musicals. From now on they should all just pull a Mamma Mia and own that 'yeah our actors aren't the strongest vocalists, but look how much fun they're having!' Edit: ok guys I never said they can't hire good singers! And 'not the strongest' doesn't equal 'totally awful', I'm just saying that if they hire an actor for a role they should use that person's voice, and in some of the more camp/goofy movies, it can add to the fun if the actors aren't all completely flawless singers. That said, my comment was a JOKE and I actually have no say in how they cast musicals
@bodyhairpositive94853 жыл бұрын
I thought everyone in mamma Mia were great singers. Who do you think wasn't?
@rebeccadodd13943 жыл бұрын
@@bodyhairpositive9485 Don't get me wrong, they all did a much better job than I could, but most of them wouldn't really be considered 'singers' outside the movie. It's just my opinion, but Brosnan, Skarsgaard, Firth and Walters sounded a bit strained at times, and even Meryl and Amanda could get a little pitchy. Moreso in the first movie. Like I said though, this is just my opinion, I have no real qualifications for judging them technically
@liv974973 жыл бұрын
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they were all pretty much drunk the entire time😂 but I actually kinda like that they're not all singers - even though personally I think Amanda's voice is (and was, even then) to die for! @gracehaven54592 жыл бұрын
Damn that's a nice school 🏫😆
@mariannecontrino62974 жыл бұрын
Ok, so this is kinda long, but so perfect for this video. Anyway, I was teaching at a high school a couple of years after this came out, and had a student who looked a lot like Zac Efron, haircut and all, who was "the playmaker" on the basketball team, but wanted to, you guessed it, be in the school's musical. He told me this movie inspired him to quit basketball, and tryout for the production, but he was afraid to tell his dad. So EVERYDAY before, AND after school, during lunch, during my prep, basically any free moment I had, he would come to my room so we could role play him telling his dad, for almost a month straight. He even wrote out a script, which I still have somewhere. Finally, after HOURS of rehearsing, he felt ready to confront his father. So, he asked his dad to meet him in my room one day after class, so I could "give him moral support", and "alm his dad down", because he was gonna "lose his mind". Here's how it actually played out. Son: "Dad, I love you, and I know YOU want ME to be an amazing basketball player like YOU were, because YOU want ME to follow my dreams..but those AREN'T MY dreams, they're YOURS!! I know YOU want ME to be a star on the court, and I am, but that is NOT where I shine the brightest. That is NOT where MY passion lies, no dad, it lives on the stage. Athletes were YOUR people, but they're not MINE!! Mine don't know how to dribble, they know how to SING." Dad: "So, what are you saying?" Son: "I'm saying I want to quit basketball, and be in the school play. Now I know that may hurt you, but if you truly lov......" Dad:"Oh. Ok. Whatever. Take the bus home after school, cuz I gotta work late." That was it, all that time preparing, and stressing led to pretty much nothing. I still laugh when I think about it now. Oh, and in case you're wondering, yes he did try out for the musical, but no he did not make it, because unlike Troy, he actually wasn't a very good singer. Now I teach at a performing arts high school in the city, which is way more like "Fame" than "High School Musical", complete with nonstop overreactions, and an alarming amount of "spontaneous" lunchroom choreography, but I couldn't be happier. This clip breakdown reminded me yet again how much I miss being in the classroom. Love these videos.

The cafeteria scene is definitely the best in HSM but it’s still nothing compared to the one Fame did (original 1980 movie). The Hot Lunch Jam scene in Fame is amazing!

With Gabriella I always got the sense that she was confident in her abilities with school related things but completely lacking in confidence with singing and stage related things.

As a utahn, I know at least 3 people who went to the hsm high school. I also no someone who was a dancer in that movie. And you have my permission to come to Utah to look at where the movie was filmed. Because I am the authority in Utah. I give out permission.

I graduated high school in 2006, so I just missed this movie. The ‘06 nostalgia is real, I can’t believe I’ve never seen it! It’s absolutely ridiculous, but at the same time, I can see why it’s iconic.

When you talk about the division of the groups- I was in middle school when this came out and this movie, (and many others) made me think there were actually going to be cliques and that I would be like, absorbed into a specific social group and there would be no mystery or social navigation to do on my own, and honestly as a 14 year old I was deeply disappointed to find out this was not a real thing in my high school and I had to make friends on my own. There were friend groups sure but no one was nicely divided by their interests, and it totally put a damper on the “not like other girls” vibe I was trying so hard to pull off PS: binging your videos, they’ve made my weekend!

I would LOVE to sit down with Nick, buy him a coffee, and hear what he has to say about the Swoop/Mykie fallout. I really love his commentary on racial and sexual orientation inequalities in our society...especially how it’s delivered in a serious, but comedic way...it’s a very valuable skill.

I was absolutely OBSESSED with these movies as a kid, but it died out as suddenly as it swept in because I never saw the 3rd one in theaters. I moved not long before the 2nd one came out and was heartbroken when I found out we wouldn’t have cable installed in time for the premiere. So my mom was amazing and got me the soundtrack and I knew every song forwards and backwards before I ever saw it 😂

@@meghansullivan6812 Yeah, they do it all the time in movies and TV shows. If the person that cast can't sing, they'll just hire someone to sing for them. They did the same thing with Stuck in the Suburbs.
