I think it's cuz they literally always made music that appealed to the lowest common denominator - and they became VERY popular, you couldn't move without hearing them, and back in the day the radio was like - all there was. So you hear nickleback on 5/6 stations in your preset and you're getting a bit annoyed. THEN the song that you were listening to that wasn't Nickelback changed to a Nickelback song. They were so popular, so all pervasive, that we got SICK of them. But looking back they weren't bad. We just ate too much sugar and got a tummy ache.

I don't get why Nickelback get so much hate... They make pretty catchy songs. The beat is solid, good vocals, electric guitars to make the song a bit spicier. I'm gonna say it - I like Nickelback. Their songs aren't deep and philosophical like Pink Floyd songs, or as hardcore as Nightwish, or Beast in Black, but you don't go balls to the wall all the time, nor do you sit all day with a glass of whiskey in hand, staring out of the window, watching the rain and contemplating life... Nickelback is good music to listen to while you are at work, or doing chores around the house, driving about, etc. Not boring, not too slow, not too fast, not too engaging - just right.

This is one of the songs that helped me get through my su*cidal moments after escaping years of domestic vi*lence at the hands of my addict ex-husband. My two children were my reaskn to stay alive, but some songs like this (several of them actually being Nickleback) gave me the positivity and the strength to keep pushing through all of the obstacles I faced after escaping my abuser. I had to find and clean up/decorate a new home after my landlord put my house up for sale, find a way to force through my divorce because my ex wouldn't cooperate, and he hasn't contributed anything substantial financially towards the children in almost 3 years. It's been hard. But blasting songs like this in my earphones saw me through nights working all through or sleeping a couple hours on floorboards to get our home fixed up while family were able to have the kids overnight. I put literal blood, sweat and hundreds of tears into getting our life straightened out. But we made it ❤

It was on the radio lots when it came out. Well, here in Alberta, Canada anyway. Maybe because it's where they're from and met CanCon requirements? Canadian Radio is required to play at least 35% Canadian content on their stations so depending how many Canadian artists have new singles out at the time a single can be played a lot, several times a day to help meet it.
