Must be because of the retro perspective of the show: Limited Animation Frames like in an 8 bit game, the square like structures, and the "power up" screens... But Breadwinners is how NOT to approach the 8 bit retro style in non-video-game media! Even Scott Pilgrim vs The World (the live action movie) did it much better, even if it was mediocre!

Sometimes small and fun shows work. In the case of _Breadwinners_ , it worked very well. Not every cartoon (or kids' show in general, for that matter) needs to have the artfulness and gravitas of, say, a _Steven Universe_ or _Star vs._ or _SpongeBob_ . Sometimes a show isn't really _trying_ to overachieve, and I feel a lot of the cartoon/kids' TV community kinda looks down on these kinds of shows; the ones that aren't vying to dethrone the likes of _Steven_ or _SpongeBob_ in kids' TV's Hallowed Hall of High Art. I saw this sort of mindset rear itself again when _The Adventures of Kid Danger_ came out this time last year: just because the show doesn't necessarily hold up under a finicky/nitpicky artistic reviewers' microscope, doesn't mean it should be immediately denied its 'right to exist', per se, on a channel. Sometimes fun, silly cartoons, like _Breadwinners_ , are just the kind of thing that a channel needs to add variety and offer something unique and interesting. If every show kids' networks picked up was an angst-ridden aspiring "masterpiece", in the style of some of the bigger, buzzier shows running right now (or _if_ a network pickup was predicated on a show being such), then the kids' space would look a lot bleaker than it does, and reviewers would go on about how every show was "trying too hard to be 'deep'" and/or in the style of whatever their preferred trend-originator is. Imagine: three, four, five channels (and perhaps streaming services as well) full of edgy pretenders, grasping for bits of praise like they're artsy movies during awards season. It's shows like _Breadwinners_ that make kids' TV content rosters interesting, diverse, and honestly, much more fun to watch. And they also help add a scarcity to the revolutionary art-Christ kinds of shows that the kids' TV community love to heap their attention onto. _Breadwinners_ may not have meant to exist, but personally, I'm very glad it did.

I've been watching some of the clips for the first time, and even three entire episodes of the show, and I found it really decent and visually entertaining to some degree. I get the criticisms of the humor, indeed something obvious. But both characters have an eccentric charm on its own, and Robbie Daymond and Eric Bauza did a legit awesome job with great buddy chemistry. But sure it could have been better

Was watching a stream from Sway Sway's voice actor Robbie Daymond. AKA Goro Akechi from Persona 5. If there's one good thing came out of this show. It was his breakout role as a lead. He flat out said he wouldn't get his game roles from Persona 5 or Prompto from Final Fantasy 15
