She was 19 in this performance even though looking younger, and she will be 27 soon on June 15th 2023, and she has released 3 albums and 2 EPs, writing all of her music and lyrics. Here is what she said about Murder Song in different interviews: "Murder Song is about something I heard on the radio but I made my own version of it." "First of all, I have a really vivid imagination. You know that these things may be happening to someone right now. It's kind of a terrifying thought. I just had to get that thought out of my head - and that's why I wrote this song. But the two characters are actually just made up in my head. I've written many songs about them - maybe I'll make a book with them." "I just think it’s fascinating how people can be the same people, how you and I need oxygen, can have children, need to be embraced, we need food, water, that we smile at us … we need the same things because we are people. And it’s just fascinating that some people can have in them the desire to kill while some people cannot pick a flower without feeling bad. That’s about this I wrote Murder Song. How can a man kill someone he loves and it happens often in the world. But he doesn’t really understand what he did, it’s a very complicated story. Her, she didn’t want to be in this world anymore, and she knew that this man would do anything for her. She asks him to kill her and he said : “Ok, I love you, I would do anything for you." After he killed her, he became sad because she didn’t move anymore and he didn’t understand where she went. He didn’t understand why she left and he start crying. And it is sad, because for the rest of his life, he will not understand and he will be sad."

Absolutely stunning. In my opinion (well, more to my own tastes, I guess), it's the instrumentation/setting that suits her best. Her raw talent (with a guy who's also got talent), and nothing else to hide her. You have already said a lot about her performance. But you have to know that her music is also quite diverse. She has many live performances, concerts or live sessions, which have different vibes, moods and instrumentation, and she excels at reinterpreting her songs according to the location and her mood at the time. But all of them have her creativity, her awesome voice and her total emotional involvement in her songs and the way she performs them. What makes her always interesting, to say the least.🙂 Anyway, nice reaction to this bright and gorgeous little Moth, Aurora.🙂👍

Hello Nick, great reaction. Thank you. This is probably the saddest love song I've ever heard. A man shoots his wife to end her suffering. Can love be bigger and more painful at the same time than in this story? AURORA manages to make this pain palpable with her voice and her movements. You have seen AURORA's eyes. She wasn't on stage. She was somewhere else. You saw how deeply she was thinking about these two people, that she sometimes shook herself uncontrollably. I believe that she is not conscious of her movements. She's so into the story in her head that she's doing the moves in the story. I heard that AURORA was horrified by these movements when she saw the recording of the performance. That means for me that she did it unconsciously. Her empathy must be beyond measure. She spreads all her feelings that she has in this moment in front of us and lets us look into her heart and soul. There is no other way I can explain that almost everyone who saw this performance was affected by this story. AURORA is more than a storyteller, more than a singer. AURORA is a true artist. This is from an interview with Aurora: "First of all, I have a really vivid imagination. You know that these things may be happening to someone right now. It's kind of a terrifying thought. I just had to get that thought out of my head - and that's why I wrote this song. But the two characters are actually just made up in my head. I've written many songs about them - maybe I'll make a book with them." And in another interview: It’s just fascinating that some people can have in them the desire to kill while some people cannot pick a flower without feeling bad. That's about this I wrote 'Murder Song'. How can a man kill someone he loves and it happens often in the world. But he doesn't really understand what he did, it's a very complicated story. Her, she didn't want to be in this world anymore, and she knew that this man would do anything for her. She asks him to kill her and he said: 'Ok, I love you, I would do anything for you.' After he killed her, he became sad because she didn't move anymore and he didn't understand where she went. He didn't understand why she left and he start crying. And it is sad, because for the rest of his life, he will not understand and he will be sad." ----------------------------------------- AURORA (Aurora Aksnes) was born on June 15, 1996 in Stavanger, Norway. She is a singer, songwriter and producer with a style all her own. AURORA's songs always have a strong message. Often the messages are not very clear either. They can be interpreted so that many people can relate them to themselves. Her movements when singing are extraordinary. This isn't a dance. This is her special way of expression. You can also say that she sings with her whole body. Her excellent music, her brilliant voice and her movements. AURORA's live performances are a total work of art. She is often so into the song that she shakes her body or head uncontrollably (--> Murder song, It happened quiet) and need 2-3 seconds to come back. She is capable of transporting feelings because she allows a look into her soul. Her fans call themselves warriors and weirdos. AURORA is not entirely unknown. Her channel has over 5 million subscribers and the 78 videos on this channel have over 1.3 billion views. Do you know the Disney movie Frozen 2? AURORA is the siren call in the song "Into the Unknown". AURORA once said: People tend to believe quite quickly that something is wrong with them if they're not like the people they see in front of them It's so sad that it doesn't take much for us to really doubt ourselves - Through The Eyes Of a Child (Live at Nidarosdomen) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJSqaq2Kr9icqac - she sang in norway's biggest cathedral - phenomenal acoustics - It Happened Quiet (Live at The Current) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4aQf2mCpt-Xf68 - it's about the rape of a woman - some say - these great harmonies - Lucky (Live at Nidarosdomen) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/d563mqSIZ8SJd9k - the song is her way of suicide prevention - The Seed (Official Video - VEVO) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/lX7GkIKDatSBd5o - it's about the climat change, AURORAS “Earth Song” I usually prefer her live performances. But in some cases the VEVO video is more impressive. I hope you enjoy AURORA. --------------------------------------------- Three important bits of information I found from another commenter: 1. -- In a recent interview she said "well, the last song I wrote is meant for my 7th album.” - AURORA's latest album, the fourth, was released on January 21, 2022. She's already in the planning for the 7th. 2. -- AURORA was a teen when she answered the question "are some of your songs related (on different albums)?" - it will all make sense when I have finished. - AURORA has a plan and we don't know the destination yet. But it is important to know that everything belongs together. 3. AURORA is holding back one song from every decade of her life to release those songs as the last album after her death. Which artist does that? Have a nice day and Greetings from Germany

@@nickforell1 Aurora started writing songs and melodies really early. Melodies when she was 6 and then came the words… The song «Lucky» which Olaf is referring to above, Aurora actually wrote when she was only 9 years old. She has written several songs on her albums from around 12-16. Her break-theough song internationally «Runaway» she wrote when she was 11/12 and her official video of that song Billie Eilish has told inspired her to become an artists…so, Aurora is Billie Eilish’ inspiration. Aurora is just as good, even better in my eyes but Eilish became the big world star. Aurora is big too, but not in the same scale. Artists from Norway (smaller countries in general) have a harder time getting international success sadly. Aurora has written songs for movies too and many of her songs are featured in a lot of Tv-series. You should continue your Autora-journey cause she is amazing and so different from other artists. Great reaction to my all time favorite multi talented artist/human being (other than my family/loved ones, lol). You will find that many, or most, of her songs touch on dark subjects that she sheds light on, like for instances, The River is based on her reading that the suicide rate for males is higher than female, if you listen to the song, you will find what she believes to part (only part) of the reason. She is fascinated by the beauty and the ugliness of human beings, she is a lyrical genius, IMO, she scored high on the IQ test in her country when in school which I think if reflected in her lyrics. Thanks for the great reaction to my favourite artist. I'm looking forward to your next reactions to Aurora! It's interesting that you said about how this song starts is like a great hook to a book because I always think the same thing. This song is like a great short story. At first, you don't know what that countdown means so you are surprised by what happens next. Then you learn the background, and then go back to the first scene by the haunting "5,4,3,2,1", this time knowing what it means. Just a simple countdown, but it has a completely different meaning to the listner. To me, this song is a really tragic love story. You feel the tremendous suffering of the man who killed his loved one. On the other hand, the song doesn't tell what the victim thinks or feels directly (only repeating "oh"). However, given the story is told from the victim's perspective, I think what Aurora sings is what the victim thinks at the end of her life. For a brief last moment, she doesn't think of herself but only of his suffering. And that's the ultimate love to me. What great about Aurora is that she never judges people. Some people think whether the action of mercy killing is right or wrong, but it’s not that simple and clear-cut. She always focuses on human emotions. Isn’t it incredible that she evokes such powerful emotions with such simple lyrics?

Yea. My interpretation was mercy kill for a terminally ill. But there are more possible interpretations like someone confused or sick think that she do good thing etc. Anyway this song make you think about lyrics and it is still open for your interpretation. And it is good think and very often with her music. She is so expressive and emotional and it is unique and when she perform she take your attention. And she has a lot of great songs - not like some songs on album but I can not name bad song from her. Her voice is amazing and very suiting. There are only some (but not all) reasons why she is my favorite artist even if I listen to wide spectrum of type of music:). PS. She is also self taught natural Artist and started to write only for herself music starting from 6 years old and English lyrics from 9 (and it is not her native language). I was confused by the lyrics ( I have heard the song before) I think the point you made about the gun was spot on. If it was a terminally ill scenario you wouldn't blow the person's brain's out. You have been the only reactor who addressed the lyrics, that I've seen. Good job 👍

Definitely came across as she intended. Her music is extremely emotional and I believe she said that this was not based on any factual story but was a story that she imagined. Again, Her songs are sad in some ways but always provocative and haunting. Her live performances are worth the watch. She is enchanting with almost magical vocals and movements.

The key to understanding Aurora is "different". All her songs are different and each performance is, as she sings in the moment. Many are emotionally intense and she is totally in the song. Others are much lighter and on stage she is emotionally in the audience. She sees the world in a different way, hence here complex lyrics. Stick to live for these performances. She is a very special person.

"Mercy-killing" is a term closely connected to the concept of euthanasia. It's not something people wouldn't do now or in history. It's not something we don't do to our pets when they get old and sick. And, sadly, we do this to unborn babies as well. Only we usually don't have the balls to call it for what it really is...

Great reaction, Nick! And thanks a lot for checking out my second favorite singer, after Angelina. Tbh, I'm not totally sure if this is the right performance to introduce new people to her music with, but it IS a very good one. What I mean is that Aurora takes a little bit of getting used to, almost an acquired taste if you will. But she is TOTALLY amazing in so many ways. Her song writing is absolute top notch, and they WILL make you think and reflect, without giving you any conclusion. There is no right and wrong. Regardless of which walk of life you come from or what kind of life experiences you may have, you will find something in her music. You will see and understand as/if you continue with her. Aurora is highly intelligent, and she will challenge you. I am confident that you are a man very much up for the challenge. I love your interpretations always, and I would love to see you react some more to her. I have noticed that there are no links in any of the comments so far, which leads me to think that links will be removed, but I would like to hint you toward my favorite performance by her anyway, without a link 🙂 5 or 6 years ago she held a VERY beautiful concert at the Nidarosdomen cathedral. Nidarosdomen is Norway's oldest and most beautiful cathedral, and dates back to the 11th century, right after the viking era. The song from that concert I would love if you'd react to is her performance of her song "Through The Eyes Of A Child". Just search for the title + Nidarosdomen and you will be fine. Much love from Norway ♥♥♥♥

My personal favorite artist that is still playing. Beatles Floyd Judas Priest Sabbath.. Both ozzy and Dii eras Neil Young And Aurora... Give me these Artists catalogs and I would not need any other albums. The poetry of her lyrics is what separates herself from all other Artists today. The subject matter she takes on... The way she conveys that message. From this sing to The River, Eyes of a child, infections of a different kind( my fav) , to The Innocent..... Then she is able to do the same song... With a full band, next day do it acapella, next day just use a acoustic guitar and have her drummer use a box, then next day rearrange it to a regae beat..... Then do a concert with a full symphony.... Just the most elastic artist out. Only artist I know who would do the same song in whatever style fits the moment was neil young.

Just to put the content of the song into context, this was an imagined scenario by Aurora where a wife has a terminal and painful illness and the husband assists her with suicice.

So just a few things. 1st, this is one of the few rare occasions where the live proformance objectively destroys the recorded version. Absolutely unreal! 2nd, I absolutely love her frantic and nervous energy. Every time she shook her fists and buldged out her eyes, I wanted to just hug her and tell her that everything will be OK. 3rd, this song, much like mid 90's Tori Amos, I have to be careful when listening. I probably don't stand alone, but when this song comes on and I'm already in a tail spin, emotionally, will cause me to spiral down for literal hours.

Mr. Tomber! I think you yourself, also have a vivid imagination! As Aurora has said before, yes she does have a very colourful imagination, however she wrote this song specifically after reading in the newspaper that a man has shot his wife because of terminal illness. The reason you can detect some confusion and an attempt to convince herself that the husband did it out of mercey is because assisted suicide in Norway is legal. That's why Aurora wrote and performed the song this way for ambiguity. Please do your research before you write something. Her song " It happened quiet" is about domestic violence, As you can hear she is very sarcastic about LOVE BEING WILD. By no means she tries here to excuse the violent partner as she says " words out of window" which means when brawn trumps brain the song" River" was written after she read about the statistics of male suicide globally. In an interview she explains both men and women are victims of males toxicity. One must be a bit more intellectual as to listen to a song and the only thing one would take is the appearance and the tone! If you like Aurora, then you would please her not by buying or subscribing but by learning and evolving...

Aurora has one of the purest voices I've ever heard. Try "It happened quiet "at the Current. Runaway, Cure for Me are other good ones to check out. She also does an amazing cover of Teardrop by Massive Attack. I think its better than the original! Just go down the rabbit hole. She operates straight from soul & you can feel that when you listen to her.

I've always taken it to be a euthanasia type thing, maybe terminal cancer with a couple of months left, and no hope only pain and suffering, but it's never made clear--in a way that kind of makes it more interesting, you're left to interpret it on your own, from your own standpoint and understanding.

The boyfriend kills her because she wants to, not because he wants to. The entire song is told from the perspective of the victim. This also means the countdown. She's counting down for him. And he only does it because he loves her and its her wish. She's suffering, she's probably terminally ill and the song has the theme of euthanasia.
@darthtaiter Жыл бұрын
Aurora wrote this song after reading an article about a man who was accused of murder after killing his terminally ill, and in agonizing pain, wife. So really it's a song about a mercy killing.

Aurora considers this a love song. He kills her for love, and is sad. She is dead, but loves him still.
@emmapeachy03 Жыл бұрын
Apparently from her, the song is about a woman who is in such a loving relationship with a man but she didn't want to live anymore and she asks him to kill her and because hes so deeply infactuated with her and "loves" her so badly that he kills her for her but when he does he doesnt like what hes done because she stops moving and all that. She saw a similar story on tv and put her imagination to it and added her own twists to it apparently :)

What I heard about this song is that it was inspired by the case of a man who killed his wife because she was suffering from terminal cancer, and she didn't want to suffer any more, and he fulfilled her wish.

Im from Denmark, and Aurora is from Norway, and this song is based on a man in Norway who killed his wife, due to her serious illness. I'd absolutely love if you'd do a reaction to auroras "little boy in the grass" the Mohogany session live version. It has a very heavy backstory, she wrote the song and dedicated it to a friend of hers that was shot in one of Norways biggest mass shootings where a man killed 69 Children.
