So what we ‘PentaFreePlayers’ say is: Pentatonix are like the “Jocks & Cheerleaders,” and Home Free are “The Dudes throwing a Kegger in the Back ‘40,” and Voiceplay are “The Theater Kids!” We ALL can recognize each and likely identify with at least one!! But don’t ask us to pick a favorite because it likely depends on the day and our mood at the time!!

Thank you. I always say the real winners in any contest between Home Free, Pentatonix, and Voiceplay would be the audience. We are fortunate to have 3 such phenomenal groups active at the same time.

VoicePlay are in a league of their own now as an a capella group. And what's more they do it all themselves, the arrangements, the singing, the filming, the eiditing, the costumes etc. They do hire a pro makeup artist and sometimes hire steadicam operators. Also the final mix is done by the man who does it for many a capella groups. Also I would venture to suggest that their range of generes is beyond any other group.

Voiceplay are known as both "The Theater Kids of Acapella" and "The Kings of Halloween" because of their love of dressing up and performing. Probably because they all performed at Universal Studios and/or Disney World. And still do shows periodically at Disney. My favorite videos.... Voiceplay... In The Hall of The Mountain King. Hide and Seek (ding dong). Drunken Sailor. Dragonborn Comes Skyrim. Halo theme. Geoff Castelucci... Rains of Castamere. Ain't No Sunshine. I See Fire. Ghost Riders In The Sky. But all are fantastic.

Oogie Boogie was my hands down favorite. Then we got Hoist the Colors; then they came out with My Mother Told Me. More recently they gave us In the Air Tonight. I just love VoicePlay and I can't seem to pick a favorite anymore!

This song is from the third movie of Pirates of the Caribbean. It is the song the little boy started singing during the hanging scene at the beginning of the movie. That isn't called The poop deck it's walking the Plank or you could be keelhauled.

It's amazing to realize that while they may hire a camera operator for the video shoot, and also hire a makeup artist when necessary, all the costuming, concept, lighting, editing, and production is THEM.

i think pentatonix in their early days.. like the daft punk medley, and their og song with the cyberpunky make up too.. came close. but they lost it somewhere along the way. with the exception of "Sing it" that was a short return to their fun video roots.

Nick, somthing to think about. When Broadway stars like Mr. Rosario has fun singing with them, not even leading and Rachel Potter, Broadways own Wednesday Adamms did quite some gigs with this guys, What does this tell us? Pentatonix and Home Free are good friends with Voice Play. Mr. Castelucci did arrangements for Home Free and Pentatonix helped them out on other things. They are all friends. The members of voice play don´t do this fom fame and money, they do it for their art and the fun they have. Dear friend Nick, be safe and healthy. Elmar from Germany

You speak of the cohesiveness of the unit...sort of ironic because vp has more guest performers than the other two acapella bands. This one was Jose Rosario, but there have been many others, and they are all a beautiful fit, both men and women participate. If you are interested, the bass singer, Geoff Castelucci has a brief webinar on how he arranges covers, and there you will find his mind blowing solo work, which is not necessarily acapella, but it is fantastic.

Really mind-blowing regarding how well Jose fits here when you consider that he filled in last minute when the guy they originally had could not make the flight down. So Jose took what originally was to be Eli’s part and Eli did the part that was originally for the featured artist.

I think the fact that they DO have so many guest performers just demonstrates how phenomenally talented they are, in that they can bring in so many different voices, each one of them so distinct and unique from the others, and yet sound like they've been performing together for *years.* It's a remarkable skill that very few groups have.

We a capella fans all love Voice Play, Home Free, and Pentatonix. They have different styles, but the talent of every individual in each group is undeniable. Another fantastic a capella group to check out is Voctave. There are more members in Voctave and no beatboxing, but the harmonies are astonishing.

Too late. I subscribed a while back. A couple of yrs back, VP had just dropped this video and it was the first VoicePlay I saw. It was an eye-opener and I have been hooked for life. This group is spectacular. Nick, I'm glad to be subscribed, you let me vicariously enjoy another first impression. There are so many videos they have out there that are amazing. With VoicePlay, they are so good at incorporating a guest vocalist and that lends an incredible variety of things they can do. For the sake of variety: Halloween theme - Hide and Seek (Ding Dong), Oogie Boogie's Song (Nightmare before Christmas), This is Halloween, In the Hall of the Mountain King (Edvard Grieg 1875), Grim Grinning Ghosts, Geoff solos - Monster Mash, Headless Horseman, Broadway - Wicked; movies - ACA Top Ten Movie Themes (inc. Rob Lundquist from HF), We Don't Talk About Bruno, Phantom of the Opera, Little Mermaid; gamers - Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, Halo theme; rock - Carry On My Wayward Son, an apocalyptic trilogy - Warriors (Imagine Dragons), Dream On (Aerosmith), Seven Nation Army (White Stripes); country - Tennessee Whiskey (Chris Stapleton), Daddy Sang Bass (Johnny Cash); softer side - I Can't Make You Love Me (Bonnie Raitt), Golden Hour (JVKE), In My Room (Beach Boys); and for the pirate in you - Drunken Sailor, Wellerman, My Mother Told Me and last, an epic, Valhalla Calling.

It's hard to compare the voice quality of the top four acapella groups. Each have their own style, but I agree that Voiceplay has the best production value. Voctave, Voiceplay, Home Free, and Pentatonix each have their own strengths, voice wise.

This remains one of my favorites. I consider it a tapestry of sound. It’s not a wall of sound because all those voices are all interwoven. It also reminds me of opera: costumes, impressive sets, and outstanding vocals. Originally Jose was not supposed to be their guest artist. They had another artist lined up who was going to sing Eli’s part. But he couldn’t travel because of Covid restrictions. Jose had already made his way home from Chicago where he had been appearing in Hamilton because their theater shut down. But Jose couldn’t hit those notes that Eli and the other artist could. So Jose took Eli‘s parts and Eli recorded and learned a whole new section. You would never know it because it’s seamless and I can’t imagine any other configuration now. If you want to see a lighter side of the pirate antics, watch the short that they did singing the yo ho song from the ride at Disneyland. Here’s the URL : m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/faS8qHiDjLlsfck If you want to hear something not quite as showy that really highlights the harmonies, I’d recommend Tennessee Whiskey. No antics, just a bunch of guys sitting around bar. And creating beautiful harmonies. And wasn’t that you in the portrait of someone’s favorite reactors?😊

If you want a more seemingly simplistic arrangement from Voiceplay, try their cover of I Can't Make You Love Me. The setting is certainly simple - it will blow your mind. Then catch their most recent release, Drunken Sailor. Not simple by any stretch of the imagination! Thanx for bringing us along on your Voiceplay journey!

I vibe with the production quality of VoicePlay the most, too. I love how they do 99% of it all themselves in-house. So much talent even beyond the vocals. It's the whole theater kids package for me! @@nickforell1 thank you for another priceless reaction to Voice Play. I love watching your expressions while viewing & listening to them. With Halloween around the corner please add these Voice Play covers to your list. ..Grim Grinning Ghosts..In The Hall Of The Mountain King ( an incidental piece ) .. Friends On The Other Side.. This Is Halloween ( it took them well over 12 hours to make this video due to the progression of make-up & costume changes for each of them. Never take your eyes off of them because you will definitely miss something good. Geoff the low bass singer of the group said they would rather make music videos over touring because they are too old to do both. After all, they are The Theater Kids of Acapella. Geoff Castallucci's ..The Headless Horsemen you definitely don't want to miss.
