Geoff's version of " The Headless Horseman " is another Halloween must. I enjoyed your reaction.

I watched Bobbie Pickett on American Bandstand 1964 when I was 10 years old. Have always loved this song. This is the Villians Lair set at Patty Cake Productions. Geoff and VoicePlay do most of their videos there. Arranged, Produced, Filmed, Performed, and Edited by Geoff Castellucci Production Manager, Costuming, makeup, and Cameo - Kathy Castellucci Special thanks to Layne Stein and Tony Wakim for their amazing set and all of their help. Layne Stein is the beatboxer in VoicePlay and Tony Wakim is a past member.

The opening sung by the "monsters" is actually a twisted up version of the Toccata from the Toccata and Fuge in D minor. That, and the detuned Fur Elise, can be heard in the background from time to time. From left to right, Geoff is dressed as a mad Victorian scientist (aka Dr. Frankenstein), Dracula, Wolfman (occasionally scratching at his fleas), and Frankenstein's monster. The only "classic" monster missing is the Mummy, but he's represented in the dancing. The monsters were performed in slow motion and shot at a higher frame rate to give that otherworldly creepiness. That's Geoff's wife, Kathy, being the awakened dead woman and she was there on the settee all along! There were a number of problems with the original, full-makeup video shoot and the makeup artist wasn't available for the re-shoot, so Kathy did the makeup for the final version. The video was shot at PattyCake Productions' studio. You can always find the credits for the video in the description. (The same is true of VoicePlay's videos.

Late to the party but... The dance the monsters do is based on the four Big Monster movies, Frankenstein (Arms out), Wolfman (slashing claws), Dracula (behind his cloak) and The Mummy (arms wrapped in bandages). The dance also gets more elaborate as the song progresses.

The amazing thing about this one was that this is the second attempt. His first one , on refelction, was just too spooky, rather horrific, so they had to start over. On the second day the make up artist was not available so I think it was kathy who did it. And that's her at the end, rising from the dead. I love how Geoff on the right does The Floss at the end. LOL For things like this he films in Pattycake Productions which is run by Layne of VoicePLay and ex=member Tony Wakim.

Nick, I really enjoyed your Voiceplay and Geoff reactions. I particularly appreciate how you remind people to give the artists their listens, likes, and support. I so enjoy seeing people react to these incredible talents for the first time. I really enjoyed watching your journey, and look forward to any new videos you'll produce. Take care, my friend!

I am old enough to remember when this came out, watched it on American Bandstand, danced to it at the teen club on base. It was one of those kitchy songs that everyone loved. Apologies to the original artist, but Geoff's is better. Even more kitchy, I guess. About the set, Layne Stein VP beatboxer, and Tony Wakim former VP baritone own a production studio. This was filmed there. Probably anything you see that has stone walls was done there. He filmed this twice. His usual makeup guy, Rick Underwood, did the makeup. Geoff and Kathy went home, watched it and realized that Rick too good of a job. The monsters were more scary than they intended. So they redid it, Rick wasn't available, so Kathy did his makeup. And, yes, that was her on the couch.

This was the first music video I heard on KZbin. That little picture in the list has caused lots of hours and hours of listening to Geoff and VoicePlay. I haven't had enough of the Halloween fun - Would you try In the Hall of the Mountain King? It's a VoicePlay and marvelous. Geoff also outdid himself in Jack's Lament for this Halloween. Friends on the Other Side is another spooky things as is Superstition.

There was a hilariously, wonderfully bizarre physics teacher that went by "Doc J" in my high school. Every single year, on whatever school day was closest to Halloween (ie. the day of, or the Friday before), he waited each period until everyone was seated, and then he walked in to the classroom with a boom box on his shoulder, dancing along to "The Monster Mash". He'd dance along to the entire song, turn off the boom box, and begin class as if nothing happened. What a peculiar, absolute legend that man was. 😂

@kathrynmenzel261511 ай бұрын
I don’t think this is quite true. Tim taught Geoff to growl but Geoff rarely uses that technique. Geoff wanted to be a rock tenor and has always worked on his higher range. Geoff’s ultra low notes are subharmonics and I don’t think Tim uses that technique. What is true is Geoff GREATLY admires Tim’s wonderful voice and I think the feeling is mutual.

Breaking this up into parts -- KZbin must consider it too long or something. (after) Four parts. Geez, that was a pain, with several repostings. I don't know why the comment infrastructure is so picky sometimes. (ten minutes later, coming thru with back button) Crap. My real post is gone now. Check your spam drawer if you are at all interested in my relevant comments.

Too late; I joined Geoff's Patreon after seeing this video when it first came out.⬅ While this version maintains some elements from the 1960s original, it expands it beyond just being a dumb novelty song. So the things you don't remember were probably not part of the original.⬅
@r0kus11 ай бұрын
The cast here, as I see it, is Dr. Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman, and (Frankenstein's) Monster. The woman who had been resting at Geoff's right is his real life wife, Kathy. She is often credited with his costuming and makeup.⬅
